Back To Normal...Sort Of

Well, it seems that things are getting back to normal around here. Everything that has happened over the past month or so--the level drop, the submission upgrade and the fixes and refixes, and the power outage--things seem to be getting back to the way they were. There are a few things still needing worked on, though. I can't edit crew or cast still and fix mistakes. I can't add new people to the crew. I've had to add several new people for the UK version of Whose Line Is It Anyway? and the first names weren't right. I had to go and change them manually on the person page. Also, crew still has to be added through the cast page. Hopefully, these will be resolved. But, the cap of seven additions still puzzles me. Why is it capped at seven? I thought that adding as many as possible would be one of the things that would be added to the upgrade. In any case, I want to give my appreciation to all the Dev team for their hard work and to Danmod for updating the progress on his blog.

EDIT: I'm back to the level I was before the level drop, but not quite at the percentage, I think I was in the 20's or 30's.

Wow! I never thought I'd reach 5 figures in my posts! Of course, now I have to go for 20,000. lol Or maybe more reviews. I wonder how many others have gotten to 10,000 submissions.

Number Two

Second entry here, and time to tell more. I had a question on my tip about the 'submission is accepted' page. So far, I have had no problems when I refresh the page. Just put your mouse over the link where it says 'here' and you will see on the taskbar what page you will go to when you click it. If it not the same as the show you are editing, then refresh. Also, I have not had a problem with shows I am an editor of.
Now, here are the list of shows I have on my list:
Barney Miller, Good Times, Hogan's Heroes, Happy Days, Welcome Back Kotter: These are shows I grew up watching and liking. I especially remember watching Hogan's Heroes on my local TV every night after its CBS run had ended.
M*A*S*H: Of course, if you love comedy, M*A*S*H is a must on your list.
Raw and Smackdown: I am a big wrestling fan since I can remember, and these are the biggest shows going now.
Hockey Night In Canada: I am also a sports fan, and this is the only sports show I have seen here so far. They don't list sports as a seperate category yet. I didn't have a chance to see it until I got my DIRECTV and the NHL package.
Whose Line and Green Screen: When I first saw Whose Line, I thought it was one of the funniest things I had ever seen. I was happy that they were bringing it to the US, and it almost always makes me laugh. Green Screen is another version, most of the same games, but with animation; and though some don't like that, I think it is a great plus.
Laugh-In and The Monkees: These are similar in that they broke the mold for television; Laugh-In with its fast pace and attitiude; and the Monkees with their breaking the 'fourth wall' and speaking directly to the audience.
MST 3000: The best and most unappreciated show ever. Even though most of their riffs are over my head(I noticed several references to the Taliban before they became known here), I, like I believe many others, do talk to the screen to make my own little comments, so I do relate to that. When you have to do that for your own survival, well then...
That's a little peek into my own mind, and all i can say is: It's a nice place to visit, but I wouldn't want to live there.

OK, here we go...

I've been thinking about doing something like this, and I finally decided to do it. I've been having problems with some of my submissions. I'll show you by giving my statistics:
Level 24 (18%)
Accepted: 2260
Pending: 1
Denied: 100
Total: 2361
I got a lot of the denials early by not doing the tags the right way. I finally learned to do it by doing the < / > for all of them. Lately, though, I have been getting blank submissions because of , I guess, a bug in the system. When I get the 'submission is approved' page, I click on the link to take me back to the episode I was editing, but it takes me to another show entirely. I have solved this problem by refreshing that page, and when it comes back, the link is correct. I hope that anyone who reads this will use this tip. It is weird to have to reject your own submissions when you are an editor of a show. I will tell you more about myself next time. Until then, good night, Dick.

Gamera

Every so often, even the best or most popular shows have bad episodes. This may be the worst episode in the long history of the show. The reason is that only Joel is in the theater riffing at the original Gamera movie. Trace Beaulieu was out of town when it was filmed, so they had Crow frozen and turned into a Christmas tree. However, Servo was in two of the host segments, but not in the theater. For those who are used to the rapid fire riffing, to watch two minute segements of movie without Joel saying anything is at best, unuusal. This is not to criticize, because Joel did his best. And this is the early stages of the show, where they were experimenting with things. Still, best to avoid this, unless you are a completist.

Gamera vs. Barugon
Avg Score: 7.47    Total Ratings: 4    Total Reviews: 1
Knowing that this is one of the local Minneapolis episodes, and that they were working the format out as they went along, it is still a fairly good episode. The Brains would do this movie in season three, so that review comes later. The host segments revolve around phone calls recieved by the show(a precursor to the letters) and one in particular, who said that there should be more slapstick on the show. However, it sounded like he said 'Chapstick,' so Joel pledges to use more. When Crow starts in on different lubricants and not using a pirate to clean out your ears, Joel slaps him. This is the earliest episode seen by fans since the show's initial run in 1988 and 1989. Many have not seen these unless they were acquired in the vast tape and DVD trading network that MISTies have set up. For those who have not, it does take getting used to seeing long stretches of movie where Joel and the 'bots do not riff. When you remember that these were improvised and not scripted, though, it does make a difference. It is also unusual to hear Josh(aka J. Elvis) Weinstein doing the voice of Servo(not called Tom here). He did a higher pitched voice here, he would not do a deeper version until later in the season. Still, though, a good show to see for the completists out there.

Big Mac

When MacArthur wants to visit the camp because of their medical record, everyone goes crazy, except for Hawkeye and Trapper, of course. Frank starts burning books, and Henry has to go through all sorts of special arrangements for his arrival. It gets so bad that there are no orderlies for to take patients to post-op because they are all cleaning up the camp, though there is always time for a tryst with Margaret in the VIP tent. Henry also has to worry about Klinger trying to get Big Mac to discharge him. At the rehersal, Hawk and Trap are their usual selves and Klinger tries to kiss the pipe of the MacArthur stand in, Radar(Hawkeye says he shrank because of all his walking on water). Mac finally arrives, and leaves just as quickly, but not before he salutes Klinger as the Statue of Liberty.

Werewolf
Avg Score: 9.25    Total Ratings: 22    Total Reviews: 1
When the movies are really bad, then the SOL crew is at their best, and Werewolf is a good example. The story revolves around the skeleton of a werewolf found at an archaeologist dig and how one of the people involved uses it to turn others into werewolves. The bad accents, terrible dialogue and underwhelming plot make it good fodder for Mike and the 'bots. Mike uses a long ladder to try and escape, but winds up in Castle Forrester. Otherwise, he gets beat up in this episode--he hits his head and thinks he's James Lipton, then gets hit on the head again to snap out of it. Then he runs into Crow and turns into a wereCrow. Inbetween, they sing a song about a werewolf who crashes and dies, and try to figure out which famous person's relative to put in their werewolf movie. A typically great show.

A Smattering of Intelligence
Avg Score: 9.17    Total Ratings: 41    Total Reviews: 2
One of the best early episodes of the series, A Smattering Of Intelligence shows the comedic skills of the cast. Col. Flagg returns to camp on some sort of investigation. Tailing him is an old buddy of Trapper's from G2. When they both show up trying to get a big score and more money from Congress, Hawkeye and Trapper set them both up to think that Frank is a Communist and a radical right-winger. They doctor Frank's files to set them both up and also make Frank look foolish. With no OR scenes and little preaching, this is one of the funniest episodes of the series.
