Alternate-Reality Gaming Crime Shows

Okay, so I like gaming just as much as the next person (I play O-Game, Halo, KOTOR, etc.) but enough is enough with the Second Life references on TV crime shows.

It's overdone, outplayed, and on CBS is coming off as a shameless plug for their own newly revised website that has components of Second Life in it.

Tonight, is the FOURTH crime show since September that will featuer an alternate-reality gaming scenario on Numbers. Come on people, the first one was pretentious and annoying, the FOURTH will be unwatchable. As much as I like Numbers I just can't sit through another 'look how cool and tech-savvy we are' episode.

Enough already.

Expendable

So it seems my points finally caught up with my submissions and I'm a Red Shirt (Level 11). I love Star Trek allusions.

Gilmore Girl Love

I realized today that no matter how many times I have seen a Gilmore Girl's episode, I still love it! There are reruns on every weekday at 5:00 on ABC Family. I seriously can't get enough.

Man vs. Wild

There is a Man vs. Wild marathon on today (July 6). It's fantastic.

Submissions

I read on the Forums that there was a new system in place so that level points would be accrued in real time. I just got a message that 4 submissions were accepted but my level hasn't increased. I was disappointed.

What a surprising great show!
I had heard that this show was good, but the previews didn't appeal to me. This is the first episode I watched and I was mesmerized! The story was great, the special effects were very well done and not even a little cheesy!

The premise was interesting and engaging and the story was well written and plausible (well, within the realm of there being vampires!)

The character development was very engaging, I am anxious to learn more about Mick and his relationship with "Morgan" and the other characters as they are all interrrelated.

The flashbacks were great and this episode left me wanting more!!

I can't wait for the next episode!

I think there was a misprint in the TV Guide, this show is called Quantum Leap...

However similar to Quantum Leap, (and wow is it similar) this show is looking like it is focusing more on drama between present tense and past tense with the main character caught in a bizarre un-dead love triangle.

It's more fantasy than sci-fi so far, but perhaps more of the show will reveal more information about how he travels back...right now it has an uncomfortable 'higher-power' undertone that I hope is explained away in consequent episodes....

I will continue to watch this as I loved the premise of Quantum Leap and can overlook the large number of parallels....

There are some noticeable differences between the pilot and subsequent episodes. It is almost as if Bear became more confident as the series went on. In the first episode, he has a sweatshirt, and a backpack with rigging line from his parachute. The only other episode I can recall where he brings bits from his chute is when he is on a glacier and uses the line to rig up a safety device to prevent him from falling into a crevasse. I was very suprised to see he had a backpack. He's also wearing jeans and a sweatshirt instead of his usual 'uniform' of khaki hiking pants and a blue button-up shirt. He also doesn't have his knife!

I was not overly pleased with the portrayal of a child with Autism. Children with Autism are more complex than a boy sitting and rocking and occassionally becoming agitated. I felt it reinforced the "Rainman" stereotype. I realize that in an hour show there isn't a lot of room for minor character development, but I think reinforcing this stereotype heightens people's fears of Autism and does not allow for any discourse of relevant information to come out. That said, in the context of the story, it was certainly interesting that a child with Autism could be 'cured' and that s/he could posess a 4400 power.

Whoever translates the morse code - kudos! I anxiously await the translation after each episode. I thought this episode was great, I love the insight into the world surrounding Jericho. I hope that in the future there are more episodes with scenes like the ones from the trading arena - the news wall was so interesting. I look forward to learning more about the hundreds of people Jake et al found evidence of on their hunting trip. How many more people are migrating south? Which president will rise to power? Etc. I think the entirety of the impact of the bombs on the country and the world is interesting.
