Today I went for a ride on the TV.Com Level rollercoaster

Started the morning at level 10 and rose to level 45 with stops at 23 and 25 among others before crashing back to level 10. However I did gain the editorship of As If.

I guess now is the time to separate the episode play by play synopses from the episode summaries.

And the points crawl up...

I just got several items approved and for the first time in like forever i have more items that have been approved than are waiting to be approved. Now if I could just score a few more points on As If I could approve my own posts and clear up a lot of the backlog.

TV Addict jonesing for some new episodes.

Just recently got back from the Philly Gay Film fest and was disappointed at the amount of new fare that had been gathered by my Tivo in my absence.

Now that I've caught up with Queer as Folk, I;m looking for some new material. I guess I'll have to delve once again into the world of British TV to sate my hunger for something I've not already seen.

I'm chagrined to admit that I watched these. Sometimes I'm in the mood for a mindless 15 minutes and what with commercial advance and fast forward that's about all this is.

I'm surprised at the beginning of every episode that there really are such lazy mindless slobs being raised in so many households. I grew up in a farming area where even the kids were expected to work and seeing that some kids today are raised this way is fascinating like a traffic accident.

What really should happen though is that most of these parents should be indicted. How could they have let their kids get to their 20's without making sure that they were at least somewhat prepared for life?

I think that the Kicked Out! approach is at best a quick fix way to solve their problem but its really no solution at all. What's worse is that the parents don't have enough shame about this. Can you imagine allowing yourself (and what has gotta be one of your life's greatest failures) to be televised nationally?

This show would be superficial and silly if it weren't so pathetic (in the true sense of the word) How can these people have raise kids like this and how are they willing to admit it on TV?

I've seen a number of episodes of this show and I gotta tell ya if it were me I'd wonder why any guy would subject himself to the weirdness that some of these girls request.

If they aren't dressing their potential dates up in strange costume (red hot pants, a harem costume etc) they are putting the guys through painful things. Leg waxing, piecings etc.

I know that guys can be pretty uncool when it comes to dating but the purpose of this show should be to have a good date, not to torment the unfortunate souls you're dating.

Being a gay man I naturally tend to empathize with the guys and they've had some hotties but often as not the girls put them through tests and ordeals that are really uncalled for.

Yes guys can be unfeeling and arbitrary when it comes to dating but this is NOT the revenge show.

BTW there have been all girl and all guy segments and I thought that it was nice that gay folk get equal treatment.

I was surprised when I saw this episode. As a bit of a leftie myself I've always been in favor of gun control.

I've felt that the Constitution like ANY document could sometimes get out of date and that the second amendment is a PRIME example of that.

I was therefore surprised to find myself agreeing with Penn & Tellers defense of it. Its always a good thing when Television makes you think. Of course many of the people who most need to think will never give this episode a chance.

In this ladies night episode the women are reluctant to put the worst player out. Folding a pair of jacks before the flop when no one's raising?

The women here were more interested in talking than in the cards and it did get to be grating before the end.

Caroline Rhea is funny but she should have paid a BIT more attention to her cards.

William and Mary
Episode 1

As an undertaker William Shawcross is perhaps more used to dealing with death than most but when his own wife is struck and killed by a car he's left to deal with raising his two teenaged daughters.

Three years have apssed since his wife's death and William goes to the "Two of a Kind" dating agency to meet someone. After pouring through their books for a bit he comes upon the file for Mary Gilchrest and decides he need look no further.

Mary is a mid-wife who is now raising her two sons on her own.

The two meets and their first date goes badly but they both feel that there is potential and end up meeting again. William IS reluctant to tell Mary what he does for a living but by the end of the first episode she has discovered what that is.

Overall the meeting of these two lonely people who deal with birth and death so regularly while rasing families of their own has promise and the actors playing both roles bring real humanity to their characters.

Another example of a wonderful British series. I'm often chagrined to see what wonderful stories the Brits can conceive surrounding regular folks when I compare them to the maudlin soap opera-ish stories that are told in American TV dramas.
