Wrote my last diploma(an evil government exam worth 50% of your mark) on Thursday. Woot! Officially my last final of high school! Now begins 2 months of sleeping in! And I like my job on the golf course so i can't find a downside to this summer. I dub this this THE SUMMER OF ERIN!

Let the fun begin!

My Rant

Hey guys,

Now right off the bat. I really needed to get this off my chest. If this offends any Americans it's not meant to, I am just expressing my own opinion. If any one actually reads this and would like to counter with their own feel free.

First of I AM CANADIAN! I am a very proud Canadian, I love hockey and snow and proudly spell colour with a U and pronounce Z as "Zed" instead of "Zee" I have always been for Canada being it's own country with it's own identity. Which at times is hard because we are very close to the states and lots of things we do are influenced by them. And a lot of people group us in with the US and assume we are very much the same. Well we are not! Canada doesn't have one uniform identity like the US does. We are made up of many cultures and languages and embrace the common wealth.

The recent events that have caused me to write this are these:

1. For as long as I have been around our dollar has been about 70 cents for one US dollar. But for the last year or so though it has been par (98 cents right now). But we are still paying about 18% more for things then the US. It is esspecially annoying on books, a hardcover costs you 20 bucks and we are paying 5-10 bucks more for it.

2. Our national broadcaster CBC (a government owned TV station) aired a show called MVP last spring. It was a drama about hockey players and their personal lives. I love hockey but it was to soapy for me and I mever got into it. But the other day I am watching ABC and on comes an add for the MVP airing on soapnet. They called it an original ABC series. ARE YOU KIDDING ME! Look up original in the dictionary it means your the first one to come up with it. You could say for the first time in America. But you cannot just buy the rights to it and say that you came up with it.

Finally the thing that really tipped it

3. The Hockey Night in Canada song. For those of you who don't know hockey is a big deal here. Every Saturday night for 50 years CBC has Hockey Night In Canada! Where two NHL game are aired of Canadian teams. It is something of a tradition it's a big deal. It has had the same theme song for it's entire exsistence. Almost every Canadian could recognize it or hum out the tune. It is one of the few songs I know that can unite a country and multiple generations all at once. But it too has been sold. CTV bought the rights to it. They also won(bought) the rights to air the 2010 olympics which has always been held by CBC. CBC is government funded and doesn't have the same money American backed CTV does. It isn't right that the few things that have always been untouched by American influence the few things that our truly ours ar being sold to the highest bidder. Why don't you just take our national anthem and the few pro hockey teams you've left us with.

I needed to say it.

GOD BLESS CANADA!

Why does TV hate Sci-fi?!

It's bad enough that there is no longer any new episodes on (with a few exceptions of course). But they have to cancell perfectly good TV. I am of course talking about The 4400 and Dead Zone. It seems to me that more sci-fi shows are being cancelled than new ones are coming our. I was still trying to deal with the gap left by Stargate SG-1. Sci-fi shows are constantly on the chopping block (Atlantis avoided it this year thank god), Meanwhile shows like "don't forget the lyrics" and "the biggest loser" are constantly getting renewed.

I know that sci-fi isn't the biggest genre out there but this is getting rediculous.

I am very happy that after Christmas shows like Kyle XY and Stargate Atlantis come back with new eps. Hopefully that will be enough to fill the void so I don't have to go to the dark side of reality TV.

Back from my trip

Hey there,

Got back from my trip on sunday. I came back more exhausted then when I left but that often seems to be the case with vacations.

The first part of the trip was going to the Canmore for my cousins tenth wedding anniversary. It was very cool. When they got married they had there wedding at a mountain top ski resort called Sunshine village during the summer. It's closed down during the summer so we had the hotel and every thing to ourselves. So for there tenth wedding anniversary party they rented out the hotel again and had about 100 people back up to the resort. It's really beautiful in the summer. And makes you rethink what your skining down in the winter. We did some hiking during the day and some drinking at night. It was fun hanging out with my brother and cousins.

The second part of the trip my dad, sister, dog and I went to my grandparents cottage in upper state New York. It was fun with the usual swimming boating hiking and other cottage stuff.

Unfortunatly I had to get back to reality rather quickly with school registration this week and school next week.

Strange

So I have had somewhat of a wiered week.

I was at the mall with my friend and we sere waiting in line for the new roller coster. Some people got out of a car and one of them looked remarkably similar to my childhood hero Grant Fuhr (he is a hockey hall of famer that grew up in my home town and played for the Edmonton Oilers during their cup years. I have been playing hockey in a rink dedicated to him my whole life.) Hold on it gets stranger. We went for lunch and I was in line at Arby's when I realized I was standing behind the guy that looked Like Fuhr. It could have been but I didn't have the guts to ask him if he was.

I also saw what I am pretty sure was a very large and bright comet. Being an amature atronomer that was cool.

Also the mouse that lives in the walls of my basement bedroom decided to get some fresh air and come say hi while I was on my couch. The Escabar (the mouse) went back into the walls and persisted to keep me up for the last week.

That's all the wiered stuff.

This episode had so many mis leads it was impressive. First you think it's Hodgins then Sweets then it turns out to be Zack! Didn't see that coming. I really thought it would be Hodgins esspecially after he dosed Zack with morphine. It had a twisting plot but still managed to have it's light funny moments in between. It's kind of sad to see Zack go but the way it was done was awesome. I didn't even consider Zack until they discovered he lied about the dentures. The reaction of the team at the end was good. Overall I think this may be one of the best written episodes of the series. It had everything that makes Bones, Bones and it managed to do it in the span of 40 min. An impressive season finale. I only hope they can keep it up for season 4!

I thought this was a great episode. The interaction and development of the characters made this one. It definitely showed how close the team is and how much they all care about each other. Rodney faking to Teyla that he believed her vision showed some character growth on his part. The scenes with Teyla being reunited with Kaanan were pretty moving. Teyla's reaction to what Michael did to her people was pretty powerful. I knew that we would see Michael again since Vengeance but the way they did it was really good. I kinda knew that Carson was back in this ep, but it was still shocking. I am really excited to see how this one plays out. And if Atlantis keeps up with this pattern so far this season the second part will be even better.

I loved this ep for the sole purpose that we finally got to see Sheppard's past. All of the characters have had a decent back story to them. Weir and McKay were on Sg-1. Teyla we know lots about. And Ronon had a few eps about his past. I can honestly say I never pictured Sheppard coming from that type of background. It was interesting to see lots of blanks filled in. The interaction between Shep and his ex-wife and his brother was good. And Ronon on earth is always entertaining. The replicator story was almost in the background. It was mildly entertaining but wasn't what made the episode good. I do have to say though I have missed the whole cast interacting with each other and the noticeable absence of Atlantis in the last 2 episodes.

As soon as I found out that the mid season finale was going to involve replicas of the Atlantis team I was having flash backs to the SG-1 episode Identity with the repli-Carter. Some how they managed to not make it just another episode of sci-fi with the same recycled story lines. Well the base has been done to death the Atlantis characters made it their own. The acting was great. And there was the usual dose of funny banter that I have come to love. I was a little surprised that this was the mid season finale. I am used to being left with a cliff hanger like in the previous three seasons. I am very happy that there is a significantly smaller gap between half's. It also helps that it wasn't a cliffhanger. So well I'll miss Atlantis for a month or two, I won't be desperate for the conclusion. Awesome episode.

It's hard to beat last weeks series classic Primacy. But this was just not a good hour. For the first time ever I was actually reaching for the remote during Numb3rs. I fought the urge and kept watching but at certain times i was seriously regretting it. This episode just lacked the usual chemistry I am used to seeing with this show. Couple that with a bad story and it was seriously off it's game. There were just to many awkward moments. The thing between David and the hostage negotiator. The conclusion of the Don and Liz saga. The only ting that saved this episode from being a total disaster are what makes this show what it is, the math, the Charlie visions and some decent one liners. Not the best, not even close.
