Due South

I've been watching my Due South DVDs again.  Especially while cleaning the apartment.  I had forgotten how entertaining the show is.  With some humour, some action, some crime solving.  Diefenbaker (that's the dog) is actually more centric to the show than I remember him being.  Training a husky that well is a lot of work (I also love how the show doesn't do anything to make Dief look more wolf like, he's obviously a light red husky.  Mind you many viewers associate huskies only with the black and white with blue eyes color).

I am slightly sad though, some of my disks are missing.  And I still need to go to Canada to buy season 3 and 4 in high quality, as I missed most of those when they were on television.

America's Next Top Model

I admit, America's Next Top Model has become a guilty pleasure.  My boyfriend laughs at me because of it.  At first my excuse was that there was nothing on else on television.  Then, I claimed that it was because I enjoyed the photography process.  But let's face it, I just find it facinating.

First of all, not a single super model has come out of Top Model yet.  Lets face it, it's a Reality Show, not really a modeling competition.  If they really want to become models they will have a to hash it out with modeling agencies.  Reality show also means that the footage is edited to make people look how the producers want them to look.  For example, the producers have decided to turn Renee into a villan.  Most of what I see with Renee is a very competitive individual, with a strong personality strongly motivated with her desire to be a good mother and wife.  I almost want her to win because I believe she really does want to do right by her kid.  And this may be her only opportunity to make it.  She looks like a model to me.  But through clever editing, they make her look horrible.  So what if people are fighting, I'm sure they are over accentuating it.  Every girl eliminated so far has said that Renee wasn't that bad.

I also find the photographs interesting.  I'm finding it interested to look at what is considered to be good poses.  Sometimes the pictures I like the most are the ones that do the worst.

While last night's episode was back to it's fast pace and quirky dialogue, it was simply painful to watch. Not only has Meredith lost her mother, her step mother and nearly drowned herself in the last few episodes, but her father blew up on her and Derek is turning into a major jerk.

I found this episode painful to watch because Meredith never gets any breaks. I have to admit the man who plays Thatcher, Meredith's father, did a fantastic job. He was heartbreaking. But his attack on Meredith was uncalled for.

Derek is turning into a jerk simply because he wants to be chief. I'm not a Meredith fan but she needs him to be supportive, not looking to jump ship.

And the Chief has his own problems when he discovers Adele collapsed on the floor.

And the actual patients: Mountain climbers, that left a man behind. Eventually the 4th man comes in. He has an ice axe in his head. I guess this is supposed to imply that one of the other climbers hit him with it. As a climber myself I know that ice axes are dangerous items. There are many cases where a climber has been impaled by an ice axe after a climb. I'm sure they are going to use it as an attack though.

Next week: What will happen to Adele? Who threw the ice axe into climber #4's head? Will Burke and Yang make it to the altar? Will McDreamy complete his transformation into a McJerk? Will wonderful Callie have her heart crushed (I hope she has a prenup)?

In reality TV one resident of the house is generally portrayed as the show's trouble maker. Renee's character is much more complex one minute you want to hate her, the next you feel sympathy for how much she misses her son Troy. Most of the booted models come off the show and admit that Renee wasn't as mean as she was portrayed and that she's a wonderful person and a great mom.

While America's Next Top Model is a reality television show, it's main guise is a model competition. Renee has consistantly taken fantastic photographs and has done very well in acting situation. The judges may feel that her future is in commercial modeling, but she also takes beautifully artistic shots.

I hope Renee finds a prominent place in the modeling and/or acting world in the near future.

I have to admit, I never thought Jael would get this far. She was a little over the top. Sweet at times but often out of control. When she spoke she sounded like she was drunk. Everyone who watched the show knew she would fall flat when speaking became an important part of the process.

Britney surprised me. She did so wonderfully in the shots that required her to look happy. But she had so many problems with the speaking roles. I don't think the shots they used in the commercial were bad though.

And about the accent that the girls are supposed to be channeling. Jay told Renee to go over the top and let him pull her back. And she gets told she sounds like a man. I think she and Britney were the only ones who even tried to sound Australian. I watched the commercial several times and I still don't see where Natasha had an Australian accent. I think she did a good job hiding the Russian accent but I didn't notice any australian accent. And Dionne and Jaslene just seemed stiff to me. I think both Renee and Britney should have placed higher. I just think Britney's frustration is what led her to the bottom two.

At least Jael can spread her joy to the world somewhere else.

Fantastic Easter Special

Stan wants to know why we color easter eggs. Eggs and bunnies don't have anything to do with Jesus, or do they. Randy, Stan's dad reveals that he is part of a secret society sworn to keep the secret of the easter bunny. A secret society founded by Leonardo Davinci. This society, the Hare Club for Men, is under attack by some sort of American Catholic league, determined to destroy the secret for all time.

This episode was hilarious. It spoofed the Davinci Code and the Catholic dogma. Jesus makes an appearance and is told that he doesn't know what's right for the church.

Possible spoiler: A part we thought was hilarious was when Jesus asks Stan to kill him quickly so he may rise again to save the day.

Tasha is not only Malik's mother, but also her manager. She has been sneaking around with Malik's coach behind his back. She claims that this is because of the conflict of interest between manager and coach. In the meantime, Tasha comes to the condo she shares with Malik and busts up his parties to a point that Malik asks her to move out. Tasha realises that having her own condo can make sneaking around a lot easier.

While there was a few parts that had me smiling, I didn't find the storyline as funny as other episodes I have seen. I think that Melanie and Kelly's short stints in this episode are what redeems it.
