Smallville Arctic Avg Score: 8.75 Total Ratings: 646 Total Reviews: 78 Users who agree: 2 Users who disagree: 1 |
I love Smallville, but the reasons are not necessarily because it makes sense. The people who play the parts are strong actors and that's where the strength of the show lies.
Storylines however, makes no sense.
And the truth is, that since Smallville has been based on bad premises from the very beginning, it's obviously never going to have a good strong storyline.
And season 7 is truly a shining example of how bad they can weave up things.
Lex finds the fortress. Game over.
Lex knows Clark's secret. Game over.
Now, let's look at how implausible all of this is.
1) Kryptonians on Earth who adopt Earth lifestyle by blocking their powers with Blue Kryptonite, which makes them compatible to have children? oye vay
2) Brainiac getting destroyed by Clark, with simple Electricity? (of course, that might not be the case, they will find a way to bring him back, I'm sure)
3) Time Travel done easy, how did Brainiac and Kara go back to Krypton in the past?
4) Wait, Time Travel, interstallar travel and so few Kryptonians to make it alive from Krypton?
5) Kara can fly, but not Clark.. Hell, every kryptonian who arrives on Earth can master there powers, but not Clark.
6) A secret society which was founded by Doctor Swann and whose purpose was to greet the "Visitor", yet, Kryptonians have been around on the planet for a while "Jorel was on Earth" and whoever designed the Kawatche Caves at some point, there is a kryptonian hand there, more than likely Jorel's too.
7) Jorel was in talks with Swann?
8) Jorel giving this society the knowledge to kill Clark
9) Lex finds the missing clue to the secret of the fortress in his home, yet, Lionel who had the house built by moving it stone per stone, couldn't have deduced it? 10) and it goes on and on...
Let's face it, this show, in my opinion, has really done a bad job of interpreting and rebooting the Superman mythology.
What type of logic can they employ to have Lex resurface in Season 8 at some point and where Lex will have no recollection of Clark's secret?
So many better shows out there than Smallville with better ratings too, have been put to pasture, I'm so wondering how this show can justify a Season 8.
Oh well, we shall watch and see this last season and how they can wrap things up.
But anyone with any true lore of Superman knowledge will agree that this show makes it next to impossible to appreciate how all of this can lead to a credible Superman storyline.
Cheers!

Reaper Avg Score: 8.85 Total Ratings: 4145 Total Reviews: 123 |
Seriously, this is turning out to be a great show!
I think the sidekicks, and the confidence they have in their role truly helps. Everyone is well casted, especially Ray Wise as the Devil!
Damn me "no pun intended" but I can't see anyone else truly get that role so well done in this type of show.
I usually don't review a show on an episode-per-episode basis, I rather rate it as a whole, but in this case, I'm giving out a rather excellent review of this great new addition to my TV addiction :).
Reaper is, in my honest opinion even more fun than Chuck and Pushing Daisies, both shows I also do watch faithfully.
Again, I guess it's because there aren't any weak characters in the cast. They are all well suited.
Story wise, the demon of the week thing, well, he's the "bounty hunter" for Hell, so, obviously, it's quite expected that he's gonna have to work at it, on a weekly basis.
That being said, it would be nice to see him work even harder in some cases, where the challenges would take him more than one episode, it would be nice to see him sweat a bit more.
If the show gets a bit edgier and darker, yet with some dark sarcasm, it could even make it better. Go Reaper Go! :)

At first, when I saw the previews, especially with the "Dirt Devil" I wuz like.. oooooh kay.. one less show to watch!
Instinct was telling me that this show was gonna blow chunks real quick!
Well, I went against my instinct and.. mmmmm, I think on this one, my instinct went haywire.
I was laughing my butt off!
Seriously, it was a funny show.
I mean Ray Wise's devil is top-notch.
He's got that face, where, even smiling, it's still spell danger.
Anyways, it's a good show, and it's got potential for sure.
You can see some lecturing here, about taking responsibilities, blah blah blah... but still, overall, this is a funny show.
No, don't take it too seriously, take it lightly, and you will find it's got lots of funny, and even somewhat original moments.
Cheers!

Smallville Bizarro Avg Score: 9.48 Total Ratings: 895 Total Reviews: 82 Users who agree: 2 Users who disagree: 1 |
Ah! Smallville, the only show that I watch, where as long as I don't "think", I find it fun and entertaining. I've got every single episode on DVD, and I've watched every single show.
Ok, here's the deal.
If you don't think too hard, Bizarro was a good episode.... Again, Smallville, overall is a great show...
But don't think too hard...
And don't you dare have too much Superman lore in your belt...
Else, when you put the two together, BEWARE, you will develop a new super-power.
Super PlotHole Vision!
It started with the very first episode of Smallville in Season 1.
No, really, it did!
1) Kryptonite gives humans abilities, tied to their emotions or work environment. Ok, let's let that one pass, it's THE major way for Clark to be challenged with adversaries who can really challenge him on a physical level. 2) Clark's powers can be transfered to someone through kryptonite and strong electrical current (like a storm)
Ok.. So, here's where the thinking cap's gets in the way here :)
Clark's powers are supposed to be based on the physics of "powered by yellow sun", because he comes from Krypton, a red sun planet, so, hey, this is all DNA stuff right?. I mean, his very cells makes him a living solar battery.. (I didn't say Human solar battery by the way). So, how can human, even temporarily, even with Kryptonite and a lightning bolt, be able to hold on to these powers? It's not like their DNA can go from Human to Kryptonian in 0.1 seconds.. right? :)
3) Pretty much most of what would be "Superman's" entourage, Lois, Jimmy, Perry, etc.. have met Clark, and have seen Clark involved either directly or indirectly to various incredible events. How can Clark create a "Superman" alter-ego, when at this juncture in the show, all the characters are young adults. Their facial features aren't going to change soo much in their next 20 yrs of so, that they can't be recognized? Right?
So, unless Clark wears a mask, how can he become Superman without people like Lex and everyone else who'se been close enough to Clark not recognize him on the spot?
You can only sublimate coincidental incidents for so long. Unless the writers assume that everyone connected to Clark are just clueless, mindless drones. :)
4) Since Krypton exploded, and Jor-El, sent his only child to Earth, how can storylines of Jor-El visiting the Earth, some odd 50 yrs in the past every be possible? Let's face it, even Zod knows about Earth? He even had 2 kryptonians in suspended animation, waiting for instructions from him and Brainiac...
I'm confused with this, because it would have made sense then, for the kryptonians who were knowledgeable of Earth and who saw how powerful they became under this sun, to have become residents of Earth, or even worse, masters...
5) How can the Indians have access to Kryptonite a few hundred years ago, store it in their cave when Krypton didn't exploded?
6) How can the Chinese over 2000 years ago, have a statue made of Kryptonite, again, when Krypton didn't explode?
7) What's the point of Jor-El dying, when he could have safe himself and his wife in the Phantom Zone? Even by shipping Clark to Earth, could have just jumped in the Zone, and then, instructed in the ship, within the crystal, the means to retrieve both himself and his wife!!
Yeah, I've obviously let a plot hole or two.. uh.. I mean, two hundreds :P
8) Let's jump to this episode, Bizarro :)
Bizarro? So, when a Phantom Zone villain, becomes Clark's carbon copy, he labels himself as a Bizarre version of Clark? mmmmm...
Here's what's worse... He's got Clark's DNA, his powers, but needs kryptonite to fuel himself. That's a oxymoron.. right? I mean, Clark's DNA and Kryptonite are like .. hydro and glycerine.. :)
The Sun kills Bizarro, but wait, this gets better, to move around, he's always in the sun, but doesn't really get that weak, however, the moment he's elevated in the sky, from Clark's last punch, he starts to desintegrate.
I mean, our atmosphere is 62 miles high, approximately, so, really, that much distance from ground to the sun, it's like, lol, a drop in a very large bucket here.
The rays aren't gonna be that much more potent.. :)
Let's talk Girl Cousin, who, coming out of her ship, is all super-powered from the get go, has total control over her abilities, knows all about them, can even fly?
Let's talk about Clark saving these people on a fishing vacation from a flood. I mean, heat vision? yeah, sure, why not? but where did the steam go? :) It should have been a hot foggy time in ye old forest that day uh? :)
I think we are getting my picture here ..uh?
So, here's the beef, here's what I think is this show's biggest weakness, in 3 words :)
"Lack of Plausibility "
I mean, this is what really bakes my noodles here...
You know, one extremely critical aspect of designing a top notch sci/fi show, is that you must be consistant and you must ensure that the environment you are working within is "plausible".
But Smallville is anything but plausible, because it just doesn't have any consistency when it comes to the environment they created for the show, the structure, the physics, etc..., they just don't have it.
So why do I watch it then? Because I'm too much of a Superman fan not too.
I'm curious to see how the show will progress.
And, let's face it, the characters and the actors playing them, are really good actors, doing a great job in their respective roles. Michael Rosenbaum's Lex is top-notch. Tom's acting is actually good, I like Chloe Sullivan and all the other characters. In my honest option, the actors are the only reason this show still works, and is still successful, despite, the large list of inconsitencies with the stories and the even larger list of plot holes.
So, as long as we don't "think" too hard about it, Smallville is great TV :)
Cheers!

The Batman The Batman/Superman Story (1) Avg Score: 9.58 Total Ratings: 80 Total Reviews: 5 Users who agree: 1 |
Batman will be teaming up with tons of JLA/DC Comics characters in this season.
I like the fact that they kept voices from the Characters in Justice League, even if they didn't draw them the same way.
The Superman/Doomsday movie would have greatly benefitted from that continuity, and at least could have been drawned in the "the Batman" style, or better yet, the "Justice League Unlimited" style. Anyways...
One thing I noted was that Clark Kent/Superman looked like a cartoon version of.. Clark Kent/Superman from Superman Returns .. Brandon Routh.
No seriously, I was shocked to see the resemblance. Kudos for Routh, if he watched this episode. Should be flattering for him.
And it was a good episode and of course, I can't wait to see the conclusion, next week :)
Cheers!
