I've been here for one year now as of today. Seems like as good a time as any for my first blog entry (or is it?....heh heh heh....) Well...I don't know what to put here. What do people put in these things?
I guess I want to say thanks to everyone here, especially all you guys on the Avatar forums where I spend more time than anywhere else, for giving me a place to "talk" about all the nerdy TV-related things that my real-life friends and family don't want to hear about. It's been fun and I hope the next year is too. If anyone is reading this you win a prize. I don't know how you are going to get it though.

This show is the story of the world's last airbender, who also happens to be the Avatar, or the master of all four elements, water, earth, fire, and air. He ran away from his responsibilities as the Avatar and was frozen in an iceberg for one hundred years. Now the Fire Nation is trying to take over the world and he must stop them. This show really does have something for everyone. It has plenty of epic action scenes. It has humor for the kids as well as a lot of jokes that anyone can laugh at. And, most surprisingly for a Nicktoon, it has dramatic moments as well. Don't be fooled by the fact that it is on Nick (when it's on at all). I know people that are 7 and people that are 42 that watch and love this show. It isn't a typical Nick show, so if you are prepared for another Spongebob, you will not find it. But you will find something much, much better.

First of all this show is not anime. In fact, it often makes fun of anime, referencing all the bizarre head size changes and visual effects that quite frankly annoy the heck out of me. So maybe that's why I like this show. The basic premise of the show is the off-screen lives of the stars of Japan's top anime, LilyMu. Each episode usually has two central themes dealing with two groups of characters, and generally there is somewhat of a lesson to be found at the end. Although I realize this is supposed to be a kids show, the lessons sometimes feel out of place and sort of forced. The strong points of the show make up for that though. The random humor is what really drives this show, although if those kinds of jokes are not your thing, you probably won't enjoy this much. At all. The show does use a little too much crude bathroom humor but again, that is to be expected from a kids show. The jokes are not all funny, though, and it is one of the more inconsistent shows I've seen in that regard. But when it's funny, it is hilarious (as long as you're prepared for the type of jokes you'll be seeing). For those expecting an anime series with a deep, involving plot or lots of character development, well...I'm sorry. None of that here. But for everyone else, it should provide at least a few laughs.

Monk saw a woman who he'd never seen before and couldn't sleep because he couldn't stop seeing her face when he closed his eyes. At first it seems like a weird idea that will have a corny ending, but it turned out to be one of the best. True, it was sort of unbelievable, but the writers made it seem real enough to work. I won't reveal it just in case some of you haven't seen the episode yet, but trust me, it's a good one. I also appreciated the fact that they treated the crime a little differently than they have in the last couple of seasons almost without exception. It wasn't just some random person dying before the theme song. In fact, it didn't even show up until about 15 minutes into the episode. All in all, it was a brilliantly written and acted episode with a storyline that makes it seem like it should be a season finale. I recommend this episode very highly to fans and newcomers alike.

First off, Squid Wood is my second least favorite episode, ahead of only Best Day Ever. But it's from season 4, so I expected no more. HOWEVER, The Krusty Sponge was the best episode I've seen since season 3! It seems to have regained its sense of comedy, and Spongebob's old voice box has (almost) grown back. While it does seem a little like a cheap copy as far as the story goes, it copys well as it reminded me of season 3 and made me hopefull that the rest of Season 5 can live up to my now much higher expectations. I haven't seen any of the others yet, but I will watch tomorrow for sure. Today I watched because nothing else was on, and I'm glad I did. I might just have to add this back to my favorites list if this keeps up.

When this show was in its first few seasons, it was one of the coolest things on TV, for kids and adults alike. Recently it's been going downhill, but it still has its moments. Nick made a good move when it decided against cancelling The Fairly OddParents, not only because it's good, clean, funny stuff, but also because they have to have something to replace all their new garbage that's destined to fail. I'm afraid that The Fairly OddParents is one of Nick's last great cartoons, but at least they didn't pull a Danny Phantom and cancel it before it was finished. Thank you Nick, for doing one thing right and letting us laugh at the OddParents for at least one more year.
