So You Think You Can Dance Australia Avg Score: 8.73 Total Ratings: 41 Total Reviews: 4 |
Being such a huge fan of SYTYCD-usa I was totally floored to see Aussie's version of it. After having watched the first few eppys..I was soooo hooked. Though the format is pretty much the same as the states, the presentation, visuals, production, music, editting, etc I think is so much more above par. They were successful in making it more appealing...more dramatic....and in some cases....very moving and inspirational. They really seem to present it in a more empathetic light. The judges are on point but also possess a caring warmth when it comes to reaching out to the contestants. I love how they guide and support the dancers more technically rather than coldly criticizing as most of these types of shows do. By having judges that are more feeling and human I think it's made the show much more engaging. I love love love the show! Still faithful to the states SYTYCD but have to give credit where it's due...props SYTYCD-AU!! Good on ya mate!! (the aussie-speak is kinda infectious!)

Dancelife Waiting on Love Avg Score: 9.00 Total Ratings: 3 Total Reviews: 1 |
I don't see the show going for too much longer if this is the format they continue to use. With the right formula and direction it can possibly be somewhat decent but at this rate... it's slowly and painfully becoming a disappointment. Only reason why I continue to follow it is it's the only "dance" platform show at the moment. Guess Dancelife will have to hold me over until "So You Think You Can Dance" comes back with season 3 in May or June. The dancing is always fun to watch but still something very awkward about how they put it together. Date night for Kenny & Ashley and Jersey & Nick was cute but a bit dull.

Kenny Wormald Avg Score: 9.85 Total Ratings: 10 Total Reviews: 1 |
His style of dance seems to attract the top names in the industry. Even though he is only 22, he has quite an impressive resume. The only type of dance that I've personally seen him perform was Jazz influenced hip-hop; which is the genre that seems to catch the eye of the vast pop culture majority nowadays. I find myself particularly drawn to his smooth effortless style & technique and can easily understand why he is in such demand by artists like Justin Timberlake, Nelly Furtado, Madonna, Prince and Mariah Carey. Many male dancers have been known to be perceived as feminine, but in Kenny's case I don't get that at all. His choreography and style makes you just want to get up and dance. It's infectious. On top of all that he seems so genuinely sweet and down-to-earth. The kind of guy that everyone gets along with. The kind of guy that most people wouldn't mind having as a friend.

Dancelife Balancing Act Avg Score: 8.50 Total Ratings: 3 Total Reviews: 1 |
Still love the dancing aspect, but the "reality" part just doesn't quite sit right and seems a little off. I liked this episode as it seemed to have more actual dance sequences (Carnival groups rehearsals/performance, Ashlee Simpson audition/practice/performance). But they still cut away too much from the scenes where they actually start to dance. Hard to see the chreography and dance leaving you frustrated that you couldn't catch it. Kind of like driving in drizzling rain without wipers...and you want so much to let the wipers swipe across at least once. Of all the spotlight solos featured to date, I'd have to say Celestina's was my favorite most likely because I'm partial to that particular type of dance style and music. The transition into the dance scene, where she walks in with the lighting pre-set in the empty studio with the typical music video blueprint, seemed so unnaturally staged that it took a bit away from the dance experience. They shouldn't have editted so much an left it a little more raw.

Spectacular dancing! BUT, the show is way too scripted. The obviously staged scenes combined with some of the melodramatic storylines, awkward transitions between scenes and the realitically unfeasible inconsistencies are a major turn off. The dancing however is amazing and getting to see auditioning process and the big names in the entertainment industry in action is, I admit, insightfully intriguing. Unfortunately they cut away from the dancing too much with ridiculously horrendous acting *ahem* I mean "reality" scenes. I really wish they were more candid on the show giving the actual dancing more camera-time instead of the painful dialogue.
