MY REVIEWS

  • show: Moonlight

    The Bottom Line: "Great"

The pilot was unintentionally hilarious. The acting was horrible and the plot had so many holes I was expecting to learn that several script pages had been lost before filming. I was howling with laughter over the absurdity.

Then the second episode had to come and be surprisingly good. The writing was good. The actress playing Beth is still stiff as a board and the actor play Josef is still annoying as anything, but the way the plot was handled and the way Mick was portrayed was quite excellent.

I do not have high hopes for how long it will last, but I will continue to watch and hope that the writing continues its upward progression and that the actor playing Mick is enough to keep the show afloat.

  • show: Numb3rs

    episode: The Janus List

    The Bottom Line: "Perfect"

By far the best Numb3rs episode this season and definitely the best of the various season finales I have seen this May. Charlie and Don were in their element, yet at the same time stretching in their roles. MRI and G-Major scale for the win!

It was great to have Megan back, although I agree with Colby in that I prefer nice Megan. What did the DOJ have her do?

David and Colby were amazing. They seemed the same buddies they always were, with grappling hooks taking the place of their typical suspect-chase. Of course, all that was twisted with the reveal that Colby was a spy for the Chinese. Heart-breaking. My jaw was on the floor and I was in total shock. I did not expect that Colby was the mole, I didn't even think that there really was a mole (CBS likes to make things melodramatic for the promos).

Overall, this episode gave character growth to everyone and has set up a very interesting premise for season 4. Hopefully the Numb3rs PTB won't drop the ball.

  • show: Stargate Atlantis

    episode: Common Ground

    The Bottom Line: "Perfect"

I must admit that I was slightly disappointed that ONCE AGAIN there was no back-story for Sheppard when I seem to recall that it was promised. Now we have to wait for Phantoms.

Aside from that, I loved this episode so much that my brain cannot fully comprehend its awesomeness.

The old!Shappard make-up kind of made Joe Flanigan look like Sam Waterston from Law & Order, but at least it was believable. Chris Heyerdahl was awesome as the captive wraith. But mostly Joe Flanigan brought out the awesome.

He did exhausted and pained very well, and kudos to the writers for keeping Sheppard's little personality ticks consistant. I also loved that old!Sheppard was still able to PWN multiple Genii. I swear that he's more than just a pilot. Like a PJ or something. Not all of that can be from training with Teyla and Ronon.

I wonder if we'll see Heyerdahl's wraith again? It would be interesting to see. Perhaps in the fourth season?

  • show: Numb3rs

    episode: Scorched

    The Bottom Line: "Superb"

Like the first season's Sacrifice, we are presented in this episode with a sort of "alterna-Charlie." What Charlie might have been if he had tried to impress someone other than his big brother.

However, this was not done to show Charlie growing, but rather show the growth Charlie has already accomplished. Megan brings Charlie along because he will be helpful in talking to the boy and because Charlie would understand (but not necessarily over-sympathize with) his plight.

The bad-guy with a stutter was a little much. A little silly, really. But the inclusion of Bill Nye the Science Guy nulls any negatives in that regard. Seriously, it is funny to think that he was probably one of the few people ever in the history of Numb3rs stars and guest stars who actually understood his dialog without an explanation. Too bad there was no bow-tie.

    episode: Sacrifice

    The Bottom Line: "Superb"

Joseph Gordon-Levitt did an excellent job this episode in playing a sort of "Charlie-gone-wrong" type of character. Scott was who Charlie might have been had he not had the support he has and had he been put in trying circumstances without that support system.

Of course, the dead guy Hoke also serves as a "Charlie-gone-wrong" example. He is what Charlie might become if he only thought of the numbers and not of the real-life situations and exceptions. Once again Charlie is saved from this fate by his support system. Larry and Don will never let him forget the real-life factors.

So Charlie is left thinking about how much harm his work for the NSA has caused. A valid concern, if simply so that in the future he knows to ask. The episode does a great job of showing Charlie that not everything is black and white.
