But man, does the series start out nicely or what. I mean, how many series you have seen that start with slow, realistic yet very pretty montage with Explosions in the Sky track playing on the background?

That's what I thought, and I was pretty much sold after that. Sure, the topics (being football and high school life) don't really interest me much, but I thought that the religious side was quite ...fresh idea. While the series might be deeply rooted in the things that many Americans hold very dear, I think the non-glorifying, almost documentary style shooting makes it feel downright rough at times. That and the fact that s**t happens to good guys makes it feel even more realistic.

Not sure how long it will last though as you can't really get around the football issue. It will get boring very fast. But I'm interested to see what they have planned for us...

I must say that I liked it. Probably because it reminded me about Touching Evil just a bit. There's this song (sung by John Cash, according to earlier poster) that plays in the episode..and has been since covered by Nine Inch Nails. And guess what music was used in the touching evil premiere?

The pacing sure is odd in this one. You'd expect this kind of series to be just a big hassle and to include a lot of shakycam shots, but neither are to be found. Instead of shouting and rushed actions while dealing with a patient, the series seems to slow down from it's normal pace... it shows the calming effect of the leading character's presence, I guess. That's part of why I liked this show. The quick flashbacks show what happened to victims but they do not judge. Neither do any of the characters. they are there to help, and that's what they do.

Sure, it might not be realistic portrayal of the life of people like those that appear in the show, but I like the laid back attitude and the lack of evil plotters.

Now, does this series have any potential? Only time will tell. I for one liked all the characters and the actors. They felt real enough but at the same time very interesting bunch. The romance angle is interesting too, mainly because I like the actor who plays the girl. Many people have said that the series is too much like "rescue me". I say ****. But then again, I could force myself to watch only two episodes of rescue me because the characters (and actors!) are simply annoying, and so are the plotlines. The premise might be the same, but these shows have very different feel to them.

There are couple problems arising from the pilot, first one being the lack of (apparent) long-term storylines. And while I like the pacing, there could be a bit bigger range to it... now the fast driving scenes feel a bit... slow.

But I'd keep an eye on the series, just in case. :)

When I started watching the pilot, I was expecting something along the lines of Tru Calling, with the basic setting stolen from Medium. Well the medium part is somewhat true, but this show is no Tru Calling.

The more I think of this show, the more I think it's a more character driven drama than a supernatural series. I think the supernatural part is just something they added because it seems to be the trend thesedays.

So she wakes up at night and sees dead people everywhere. And the dead ask for help. But instead of getting ghosts haunted by their gruesome deaths, we get more drama. What I'm trying to say is that the supernatural part doesn't really affect the show in any other form than the fact that the main lead has to convinve everyone to believe her without real proof.

Those of you who were waiting for chills, don't expect them here. Those of you who were expecting for mythology, you can forget about this show. They touched the subject just enough to kill any interest in it. If there are any questions or mystery to the ghosts, she just blurts something about spirits and spiritworld like it's some mundane thing. And that about ends the subject.

What's bad:
- It's a slow paced show.
- Family oriented content (limited storylines)
- The acting isn't quite there.
- No mythology.
- No continuation. (expect only ghost-of-the-week stories)
- not very interesting

What works:
- Jennifer Love Hewitt (she might not know how to act, but she sure is cute)
- The main relationship. it feels real..and dreamy at the same time.
- The amount and quality of the Score music.
- Constant quality.
- tear-jerking moments.

This is clearly my favourite episode of the new BG so far. And I'm not hiding it.

The episode took three main storylines, all set in a very different surroundings. There was the intense and dark storyline aboard the galactica where Cylons were boarding the vessel and trying to vent every human being out. Lot of action and suspense there and none of the sometimes annoying politics or paranoia.

Fast cut to lush, Green forest with life flowing all around. Birds singing and people getting shot at. The scenes were very well acted and I just loved every bit of it. The "talk to me you motherfrack/ger" part was just brilliant...and so human.

Then there was the eerie, deserted city basking in the yellow sunlight. Very nice contrast to the claustrophobic scenes from galactica and the natural surroundings of kobol. So it's no wonder that they saved the best part of the episode here. The music (Philip Glass - Metamorphosis (Five)) was just mind blowingly good, and totally not Battlestar Galactica at all. That's why it was so good. It gave us a little break from all the tension.

After the slight dissappointment that was the pilot "episode", 'Voices Carry' is a solid episode of fourtyfourhundredness. And this time they brought back the opening credits.

Not sure if it was that, or just more thighter script, this episode just managed to keep the "ambience" a lot better than the pilot episode.

While nothing dramatic happened, things kinda locked down to their places and started rolling. And by the looks of the trailer for the next episode, the plot is starting to accelerate as well.

There are still some sides to the characters that are not so interesting, but I'll give them few episodes time to changed them - I'll be sure to whine about it if they don't.

In a nutshell, voices carry is a solid episode. Nothing spectacular but not a bad one either.
