Sign the Babylon Fields Petition! Save the Zombies!

ZOMBIES RULE

CBS has failed to pick up Babylon Fields, an awesome show about zombies.

TV.com editor and resident party boy Tim Surette has rallied friends and coworkers to save this show. Here's what he's got to say:

The city of Babylon in AnyState USA has a problem. Seems the dead just don't like being dead no more. Corpses dig their way up from their filthy graves and begin returning home. No, they don't eat flesh (at least not yet), and no, they aren't lumbering, groaning meatbags. Instead, they want to go home to their wives, families, and everything else they left behind.

Obviously, the actually-living are a bit spooked out seeing semi-rotted corpses ringing doorbells and trying to get a drink at the local watering hole, and half the town goes into Rapture mode. Some, however, have more than just "GET THE GUNS" reactions... one widow gladly takes her dead husband back and proceeds to "do it" with him (rigor mortis has its advantages, claims the dead hubby); another mother and daughter apparently killed their patriarch and are freaking out now that he's back, and the show's lead, the town sheriff, must decide between his reanimated wife and his new hottie girlfriend.

If it sounds confusing and weird, it's because it is...and wonderfully so. Babylon Fields was a drama, comedy, horror, and--get this--a crime procedural (one particularly despicable zombie wants to know who murdered him).

Clips just sprung up over on TVWeek.com, but I went a step further and dug up (ha! dug up! get it!?) the pilot and I must say, the show has potential and is a lot better than all the boring stuff on TV these days. I mean, maybe the zombies will realize they need to eat humans? What happens when a zombie impregnates a human? Can the zombies go back to work? What about the dead pets? Can the new zombies be killed? What sort of tension will develop between the living and non-living-but-living?

So to make our zombie-loving voices heard, I went ahead and started an online petition to save the show. Hey, if CBS changed their mind on Jericho, who knows what could happen with Babylon Fields.

Sign the petition! (We were up to 81 signatures as of 12:30pm Wednesday with little to no promotion!)

I think it's clear that we should all sign Tim's petition and bring back the dead!

The Daddy Wars Begin

The fertile womb of reality TV is swollen once more with the spawn of Mark Burnett. This time around it's a game show designed to prove, once and for all, whose dad is totally the best ever--and, consequently, whose isn't. My Dad Is Better Than Your Dad is slated to hit NBC mid-season, and will pit several fathers and families against one another in an all-out war for money, prizes, and fame. The show "combines the family fun and kid empowerment of Fifth Grader with the universally relatable concept of bragging that your dad is the best," boasts Burnett. Now I'm all for family fun, and I did love Double Dare, but something tells me that the whole "my dad rules" thing isn't that universal. Sure, some of us have great dads, but many of us have childhood memories that are less similar to those of Shiloh-Pax-Zahara-Maddox-Jolie-Pitt and more similar to this:

Nashville Heads South

I hate to break it to you guys, but Fox's Nashville has been pulled from the airwaves after a paltry two airings. The Idol-meets-The Hills-meets-actual-musicians "docu-soap" averaged just 2.4 million total viewers during its short lifespan, which isn't actually that surprising since no one knew it had even premiered. Starting on October 19, the show's lousy Friday night timeslot will be filled by the slightly more promising The Next Great American Band, and until then viewers without weekend social lives can fill their time with K-Ville reruns. TGIF!

Disappointed fans--I mean fan--of Nashville (I'm talking to you, Waltmor) can visit the show's official Web site for clips, recaps, message boards, and more. There are also at least two full episodes available, but as you have to install some weird special media player, I didn't bother.

one more thing about duplicates

Okay, dudes, I didn't think I needed to say this but today's investigations have proven me wrong. Lend me your eyeballs for a moment and check out this little piece of advice:

Please never, ever add the words "do not use" or "delete" to the end of a duplicate ID's actor name, even if all the credits have been transferred (and especially if they haven't).

Imagine if you were an actor looking for work, and a potential employer Googled your name and saw "TV.com member - DELETE, DO NOT USE," or even if you just Googled yourself and found that. Not such a warm and fuzzy feeling, right?

If you must change something, a short explanation in the bio field will do.

(end of mean teacher voice)

We heartily appreciate your efforts here, and want to make the whole process as problem-free as possible for everyone involved. That means you, us, and also the actors. Sound good?

Thanks again to all for your help with the credit transferals and the reporting of duplicate IDs. They're lining up for a trip to the big database in the sky!

Michelle Schlachta Junior - I swear her name sounds familiar, but I can't figure out where I've seen her before. I guess it doesn't matter, though, because now that she stars on I'll Get You, You Dirty Rat! I'll be able to see her on the screen almost every night. She really does a great job for such an unknown actress, and I hope this show kicks off a great career for her. I think she's really pretty, too.

Captain Rat is the best! He always sneers at everyone and acts mean, but I can tell he's really nice on the inside. I know I should be rooting for the humans on this show, but I definitely support the Rat-a-tats. They're so much cooler than people...maybe someday I'll find them and become part of their gang! And maybe I'll even be co-captain, if you know what I mean!

One of my roommates brought home a DVD of “Chappelle’s Show” last night. I had never seen the show before, so I sat down to watch for awhile. I didn’t really find it that funny, but I was interested by one particular skit, “The Mad Real World.” Dave has noticed that on MTV’s “The Real World,” there is often just one black roommate in the house. That roommate generally has a breakdown and is kicked off of the show for the safety of the remaining cast. Dave wonders what would happen if things were the other way around and there was only one white roommate. I have a genuine moment of “hey, that’s a really good point,” so I stick around through the episode.
A naïve, hearty-looking young white man is introduced to his new roommates, “the six craziest black people around,” in “The Mad Real World: Hoboken.” TyRee, Tron, Lisa, Zondra, and Faze Z. proceed to indimidate, mock, and abuse poor Chad. A houseguest named Lysol claims Chad’s bed, everyone sleeps with Chad’s girlfriend, and TyRee stabs Chad’s father. It’s still not all that funny, but there are a few good moments, and the commentary reveals that everyone was smoking actual pot while filming the episode. One can watch nearly the entire skit at the “Chappelle’s Show” website.

Paris Hilton and Nicole Ritchie live "The Simple Life” when producers place them in the homes of regular families and force them to work blue-collar jobs. The blonde duo descends like a pair of harpies on America’s common folk, and hilarity ensues without fail.
We are meant to realize that, although these young women are privileged beyond our humble imaginations, they are just as human and flawed as we. What I realize is that these young women have way more time to devote to physical fitness and good looks than we (me). They’re hot. Especially Nicole, who seems to be much smarter and funnier than Paris is.

I’m sure my best friend and I were among millions of women who watched “Absolutely Fabulous” for the first time and screeched, “It’s us! It’s us!”
The only discernable difference is that Jenny and I were 15 year old girls, getting stoned and fighting about which of us would get to be Patsy when we grew up. Our favorite episode, of course, was “Morocco.” Patsy and Edina head to Marrakech for a photo shoot, and Saffron insists on tagging along in order to study the native people. Things go wrong immediately when a bit of physical comedy in the airport leads to the loss of Saffron’s luggage, and they only get worse after the trio arrives at the home of their extremely sleazy host. He brings out the hookah, the room fills with smoke, and things begin to get very confusing for poor Saffron. Soon enough, she finds herself sold into slavery by the jealous Patsy, and it takes quite some time for Edina to notice her absence. The rest of the episode is a blur of hashish, desert mirage, and camel hair, but things do turn out relatively well in the end. I have this on VHS somewhere in my house, and I probably should have watched it before writing this, but I did not. Therefore, I have nothing more to say.
