i'm baaaaack!

ok, i am here once again! does anybody actually read these except for myself? probably not. but just in case somebody is out there that is reading my little blog thing, you're pretty cool for listening to what i have to say. which is never very much.

well, i last wrote here forever ago. now i'm living in downtown chicago and although i love my condo (i have a pretty cool view) and my school, i really can't wait now to get out of here and check out this country. but that's not going to happen for awhile considering i can't even drive yet. it made me really depressed because yesterday i was talking to my friend who's taking driver's ed, and i was like, "I want to do that!!!" Oh well.

Last summer, my favorite website in the world was prairiefans.com. Now I haven't been there in forever and I'm terrified to go back because I think the surprisingly close-knit online community of Little House on the Prairie will freak out on me for being like, "hello, you haven't been here in six months. what's your problem?" God my life is BAD.

that's it for now. next time i'll try not to wait a year before posting another blog.

Really...

Wow. I just realized I haven't "blogged" in awhile and I figured I should actually do something here. Plus most of the people around here don't know much about me. Anyway, as far as my icon goes, YES ITS FIXED!!! except my computer is stupid and I can't put on real pictures of me without looking like a complete psycho, so I put the Heroes theme on. For the record, I don't watch Heroes and I don't plan to. But I didn't have many other options.

Ok. How about I tell you all a bit about myself?

My real name is Emelia, not lisgirl978. Yeah, I know, "be safe on line." But its not like I'm telling you my phone number or anything. I'm 13 and I live in a south suburb of Chicago -- however, soon to be the city!! On May 3 (which as of today is exactly four weeks away) my parents and I say adios to boring suburban housing and we're moving into a 24th floor condo in the city (Chicago). That's so I can go to a fine arts high school downtown to study dance.

I'm in eighth grade and am more or less your normal teenager. Well, the beginning of this year I had this huge problem -- "I'm not normal!" and tried desperately to watch "regular" TV and listen to "normal" music. Then I had a revelation that being normal is overrated and I'm not that average. You see, I'm absolutely obsessed with Lost In Space and Little House on the Prairie. What I find funny is that when you compare the two, they're so completely different. However, my mom says that both are on the frontier -- just LIS of space and LH of America. I've bought tons of DVDs of both shows and watch them constantly. And all that. I also love to listen to my dad's music from the 1980s. My favorite song of all time is probably Rain on the Scarecrow by John Mellencamp. Point made?

Fun way to learn about people-- the What Nobody Knows About You Game. So here's 10 random things that not many people know about me:

1. After six weeks of kindergarten, I bumped up to the first grade and once there was in all advanced classes up to the present. Technically I should probably be in about ninth grade already, but my teacer said I was ready to move up socially only one year.

2. I have a super-sonic memory. My friends and I joke that I could remember what socks I wore last 4th of July. Answer: Hello, its a trick question! You don't wear socks on the 4th of July, you wear flip-flops!

3. I can say every single line from the movies The Parent Trap and The Sisterhood of the Traveling Pants.

4. I love science fiction. My favorite book (ok, right after A Corner of the Universe, but that's absolutely unbeatable) is definitely Uglies by Scott Westerfeld, about a futuristic world.

5. My dad and I are planning to have seen every episode of all these old shows by the end of high school: Lost In Space (accomplished), Time Tunnel (accomplished), Voyage to the Bottom of the Sea, Star Trek (all series), Battlestar Galactica, and M*A*S*H.

6. Throughout my life, I've wanted to be a teacher, an ice-skater, a firefighter, an adoption counselor, an acupuncturist (long story), a journalist, a writer, a foreign service worker, a professional tie-dyer, a computer specialist, a mattress tester, and now a dancer when I grow up.

7. In sixth grade a letter I wrote to the editor about an unnecessary construction was published, and I had the superintendent of schools give me his phone number in case I had another cause I needed help supporting.

8. Like every six-year-old, I wanted a GameBoy desperately, and when I finally got one, the only games I ever played were MaryKate and Ashley. Six months later GameBoy Advance came out and since I never got one and my GameBoy was "uncool", I never used it again.

9. Other presents put to waste: My Singin' Starz karaoke machine (remember those?), an American Girl video camera, a half-size guitar, countless history books from my uncle, a contemporary viola book, and a Sabrina, The Teenage Witch computer game.

10. The first movie I ever owned was Shirley Temple's Bright Eyes, and the first one I ever saw in theaters was Fly Away Home. Funny I can remember?

S'all for now. l8r!

Its been awhile

I keep forgetting I can write here! So this is just my second entry. I've watched a lot more Little House on the Prairie (although not necessarily in order), and I was supposed to get Season 7: Disc 2 yesterday from Netflix, but it turns out they don't have it at my local shipping place, so they're officially sending it from Greensboro, North Carolina, and is estimated to arrive on Monday, January 29, 2007. Ugh.

I write documents. I call them "documents" because when you're 13, LHOTP isn't the coolest show ever. When I watch an episode, I take notes on things that happen and type up summaries. Except they aren't regular summaries: They go to the mill and get into trouble. I add my own little two cents and mention random facts. My friends think they're a little bit obsessive, but they read it anyway. You know, its weird. I have officially wasted (well, not wasted, per se) 36 pages of paper writing up documents. They're all 5 pages, give or take 1 page. I think I have a problem.

My documents are awesome. They help me remember everything.

I watch a lot of different kinds of TV. I've been trying to be normal and watch new shows, like The Office or something, but I'm just not interested. So I watch old shows from the 1960s and 1970s, and these shows range from Lost In Space to Little House on the Prairie. Random, right?

Although every day after school I do watch an hour's worth of Sabrina, The Teenage Witch.

I think I need a life. One that doesn't involve TV. But I frankly don't care that much.

Later!

Wow.

Today was very typical... I did watch an episode of "Little House on the Prairie" called "Sweet Sixteen." It was pretty cool. Does anybody know the episodes that are being shown tomorrow morning on the Hallmark channel? Yahoo's descriptions are confusing. Thank you.

I also today wrote an entire thing on Sweet Sixteen. It's like 5 pages long... it started when I wanted to write the inappropriate parts down cuz I find their age differences so wrong. But it is romantic.... so I wrote up this whole thing.

That's all for now. Bye.

Everybody I know that watches Instant Star was completely upset with how it ended, complaining that she should have been with Tommy, they should have tied up the loose ends, yada yada yada.

I thought it was fantastic.

Let's be honest, even though Jude and Tommy got engaged, there still would have been problems. They would have been happy for a little while and then gotten in a fight and wanted to get divorced. That's just how their relationship is. And yes, I was a Tommy-not-Jamie supporter, but honestly, it wouldn't have worked. Kudos to Jude for figuring that out. It was comforting to know that after all that Jude went through, going out with that one random guy back in Season 1, Jamie, Speed, Tommy, Milo-if-we-want-to-count-him, etc., she didn't have to choose someone. She could be independent and really take on her music without all that drama.

Oh, by the way, let me just say how much I adore the final song of the show, "The Music." I think the song really epitomizes what the show was about, that no matter what's going on in life, Jude (and the rest of us, for that matter) will be ok as long as she has her (our) music. I can hardly wait for the soundtrack to come out so I can have the song on my iPod.

And finally, all those loose ends, like Karma and Speed being evicted, Kwest quitting, and Darius taking on World Instant Star and by the way Sadie (let me just say that is SO creepy)? I thought it was kind of nice. When shows end with everything tied up perfectly, it is so cheesy and so unrealistic. Like everything comes together at exactly the same time. Right. The point, to me, was that no matter what happens -- Jude can go to London and ditch Tommy, whatever -- all the G Major drama is still going to happen. It just is. Which is the truth in life as well, just not with...well, G Major.

I loved it. That's really all there is to say.

The three hours I watched of Lost on May 29 were some of the most intense hours of my life. Let me just say, everything was there: It was emotional, it was full of surprises, it was action-packed, it was revealing, it was funny, it was... exactly what Lost should be. I cried. I really did. Watching the freighter blow up and kill everybody on it did me in -- especially watching Sun's traumatic reaction to seeing Jin die (kudos to Yunjin Kim for a noteworthy acting moment). And of course, when Christian showed up right before... creepy! Let's just say I thought Michael Emerson was doing his finest work in this episode. Emerson is and has always been tremendous as Ben, but No Place Like Home was tops. He's so mysterious, so scary... such a perfect villain. And the other 3 best moments of the episode? 1) Sawyer's heroic leap into the ocean from the helicopter. Ok, I do NOT support Kate and Sawyer. I'm a die-hard Kate and Jack fan, but when he took off and jumped into the water, I was applauding. Seriously. My equally impressed couch-mate stared at me. 2) Desmond and Penny's reuniting!!! I'll just leave it at that. If you weren't touched, you aren't human. 3) The arrival at Membata. They were clearly so happy, but showing it in a very Lost-esque style, with no jumping up and down. I couldn't have imagined the scene any other way.

Now I can only wait for next fall!!! I might kill myself waiting six months, but at least I have the comfort that we DID find out who was in the coffin after all that build-up. (I was terrified we weren't going to.) Oh my God, it's Locke! Now the question is... how did he get there? Dum dum dum!

Well, let's start out by saying JJ IS HOME!! WOOHOO! It was undoubtedly one of the most touching moments of the show when Helen arrives at church, very solemn-looking, and suddenly breaks into a smile and shouts, "he's coming home!" The reactions were fantastic and made me really respect the actors' work so much more.

Another notable moment is when JJ is still in Vietnam and dreams he's seeing his old comrades. You are completely unsure for the whole scene as to whether or not it's real or a dream. Unfortunately, it's a dream, but the scene was done so well that it makes you really think.

Watch this episode! You will NOT regret it.

Now do not get me wrong. This episode has some great storylines going for it, the acting is top-of-the-line, and the music is awesome. But seriously. It leaves you on a very very depressed note. By the end, we've had Luke and Meg break up, JJ and Beth decide to "take a break", made Sam and his little girlfriend feel like outsiders at the dance, and sent Jack to the hospital. ??? There were some fabulous elements, though. #1: When Luke breaks up with Meg, Brittany Snow's acting is beautiful. The way she portrays the one little tear and then covers it up is perfect. Love it. #2: The song Warren plays for Roxanne at the end. Gorgeous song that I really wish I could buy and get on my iPod.

So yeah. It's actually GOOD as far as the technicalities go, but it's very, very depressing.

As the title tells us, American Dreams is about the good ole days. Think black-and-white TV, record players, phones with cords, plaid skirts. Oh, how I wish I could of grown up in the sixties. In actuality, it's the simplicity and realness of the show that makes it so easy to enjoy. You can imagine that the Pryors are your next-door neighbors, a dysfunctional but lovable family, complete with football star JJ, dancer/music-lover Meg, know-it-all Patty, the adorable but Polio-stricken Will, power freak father Jack, and sweet, compassionate mother Helen. It is incredibly difficult not to love all of them. This is the kind of thing we need to see more of on TV.
