Why I (almost) Never Blog

I really enjoy reading comments (and stories) from other friends here, but really don't stop to talk much myself. You can probably guess why... I'm watching TV in most of my spare time. Actually movies and TV. In between having several hundred TV series on DVD as well as thousands of new and old movies I'm accumulating on DVD. Maybe I should start reporting on what I've watched, like new releases and info on classic TV/movies I get as well? Haven't gone bug-eyed yet from viewing, I think...

Merry Christmas To My TV.Com Friends

I haven't been on much lately - well, past several months actually, life has a way of interfering with that.  But I haven't forgotten the ones I enjoy talking with here, especially now, in the season to remember the ones you do cherish.   I really hope this finds you all doing well and I wish you good health and cheer!

While Neelix escorts an ambassador from a relatively cloistered culture, the Doctor tries to school Seven in the social graces. Both situations soon get out of hand, with Seven showing all the subtlety of a jackhammer, with the Doctor beginning to fall for her, and the Amabassador wanting to expand his horizons, along with his waistline, in sampling the many cuisines and other taboo pleasures of Voyager. This episode has many humorous moments, the best
of which are centered around the ambassador, who steals the show with his enjoyment of debauchery. Seven fumbles her way through, though one can say the Doctor learned more from this experience than her. Though derviative of several sources, this episode still stands well alone thanks to its characterizations.

Voyager is brought to a halt when Janeway receives a top-secret captain's-eyes-only notification from the ship's computer, regarding the existence of a super-powerful and unstable molecule known as Omega, which the ship's sensors have just determined is being manufactured in the area of space they are in. At first, Janeway believes she can handle the situation on her own, but after confirming the presence of not one but hundreds of the same molecule, she must turn to the crew for help in eradicating them. However, Seven is convinced that this molecule represents perfection and doesn't want to destroy it, setting her at odds with Janeway. Well-paced episode, and a new insight into Seven as she finds her own personal level of spiritual belief in this encounter.

Good spotlight on Kes here, with her beginning as an older woman who is gradually living her life backwards, and trying to find a way to stop it before she winds up out of existence altogether. This story is interesting in how it also sets up a major storyline for the following season and yet can still be viewed as an individual episode. Definitely not for the squeamish, though, as we see a birth scene in it that's enough to give anyone pause, and wonder how they conceived to begin with. Aside from that, a good show to pass time with.

The Doctor decides to win enemies and alienate people in this sad attempt at character growth. He gets the bright idea of incorporating various historical personalities into his matrix and winds up playing Mr. Hyde. Bad boy Doc soon starts acting up, torturing B'Elanna and causing trouble with a race of travelers Voyager has encountered hoping to gain new information for the space that lies ahead on their journey. This is interspersed with Kes and her infatuation with one of those travelers, and her desiring to leave the ship. (or maybe just this plot) Lots of scenery-chewing here, which leaves little left over worth digesting. Not even good for camp value, and leaves us wishing someone could've turned the writer, let alone Doc, off.

Neelix adds elevator guide to his resume in this rather tepid story. Both him and Mr. Tuvok are trying to escape the surface of a planet they were investigating, which was being bombarded by artificial asteroids, by taking a very high-rise lift that goes into the planet's atmosphere and beyond. Adding to their troubles are the planet's attackers which are headed for them, and a murderer on board, an undercover agent for the attackers, as well as running out of oxygen due to damaged environmental controls on the lift. Generally this episode tries to be a Spock/McCoy riff with Mr. Vulcan and Neelix, but their bickering as well as the ride itself drags the entire episode down. Watch this when you feel the urge for what is essentially a one-set piece.
