Stuff goes on, stuff goes off....
- Hello, everybody!....it's starting to tease summer like weather round here finally. The flood thing is finally settling down and people are starting to move back home ( luckily, I don't live in the area affected but I do know people who were..nothing lost for them...). Two things came out of I thought interesting:
1) Provincial power company turned off power to homes in flooded areas but for the home owners to get it turned back on, they have to have a contractor inspect the house at their expense. Nice, huh?
2) Some home owners in Fredericton, who were warned in advance of the approaching flood, have claimed lost fridges, freezers and wedding photo albums.....now the first two, I can see, but how hard can it be to retrieve mementos from a basement given warning many hours in advance...![]()
- Guide work continues...one thing about updating Lassie is that I've noticed the closing credits don't always match the ep in question. Whether they are lost to time or TV Land ( network here currently airing the eps) is lazy, who knows but it makes it hard confirming the cast/crew credits.
- Today has been a strange day round here..things are getting turned on and off with no notice whatsoever. Submissions..forums.....odd...not surprising given the way things go here but odd nevertheless.
- Oh, saw something funny today on the TV Land site...they mark notable things on it in a " this day in TV history " thing...apparently, this day, Shelly Long left Cheers for the movies where her big claim to fame is playing Carol Brady in the Brady Bunch movies. Hey, she did better than David Caruso, at least....![]()
Take care, everybody!

Water, water everywhere....
- Hello, everybody!...it's been wet and dreary round here the last few days except for first of the week, when I got my haircut. A haircut is usually a routine thing for most everybody but when my mobility and equilbrium is borderline wheelchair, it makes for an adventure..![]()
- Well, the weather I just mentioned has turned the routine snow melt runoff into a fair bit of flooding in my provincial capital. The news people are all over it ( http://www.cbc.ca/canada/new-brunswick/story/2008/05/01/nb-flood.html ) but the locals aren't freaking out about it and good for them. Fredricton, btw, is basically one big hill with the flooding affecting the bottom part. They had a pic yesterday of someone using a tractor/snowblower attempting to remove the water with it.
- Guide work marches on....adding crew credits now for Lassie Season 13 which included the 7 part (!) Voyager arc. A lot of familiar faces popped up in the 60's eps....the type that you recognize but couldn't quite put a name to it.
- This season's Survivor is winding down and it has been nasty, brutal and one of the better ones in recent memory. It ends on May 11th to be followed by the debut of CBS newest reality series...Greatest American Dog (which sounds like Big Brother mixed with Westminster Dog Show)....the promos for it should be, ummm, interesting, I would think...![]()
- Quiet around the site, isn't it?....sorta like the calm before a feature " the users asked for that is really exciting, etc...." gets introed...![]()
- Well, that's about all...oh, and Space:1999 has been fun going thru. A couple of observations:
1) Season 1 had some great eps with Dragon's Domain arguably one of the top twenty sci-fi eps ever shown on television.
2) Season 2....well, I've read where Landau fought with the writers and Freiberger quite a bit over the scripts...I can see why...![]()
Take care, everybody!

Northern musings....
- Hi, everybody!...well, spring weather is starting to embrace my area and with it, news reports of rivers overflowing banks and towns bracing for flooding. I'm a little jaded by the people interviewed who wail afterwards about the the flood damage and expect government compensation. Here's my take: if it's a once in a lifetime type flood, that's acceptable. However, if you build a house in area where every spring the neighbours down the road have a boat tied up by the back door in anticipation of the runoff, you shouldn't expect people to compensate you for your decision to live so close to the river. In my college days, when done spring finals, I passed by houses like these on a highway stretch that, one one occasion, closed 4 hours after I went thru....
...maybe I'm harsh but people should use common sense.
- Well, all heck broke loose with the UK show guides here this week and staff, sadly, once again were reactionary instead of being proactionary. I think the compromise arrived at was something they didn't plan on but had little choice given the furor. I wonder if staff realizes just what kind of slippery slope they start down with this kind of action. What if network X has a new series coming out in the fall and they want to minimize the negative talk about it here (warranted or not)? Does that mean negative but well written reviews go poof? When you start fixing content to appease the bottom line factors, integrity can be fatally compromised....![]()
- Pretty quiet otherwise for me...oh, I might be a bit busy over the next while. I managed to snag the 17 DVD megaset for Space:1999 via online seller and I just got it yesterday. Once I've finished watching it, I'll start working the guide for crew, cast and so forth. BTW, for UK readers, what exactly is the diff between " guest star " and " guest artist " for eps? I'm guessing guest artist is like guest star but guest star signifies Special Guest Star, yes?
I loved the show in my younger days....aired on Saturday afternoons after Rocket Robin Hood reruns and before CBC sports 4 hour speacials. In many ways, it was a ground breaking show for its time with a lot of talented people involved.
Well, that's about all..have a great weekend, everybody!

Listening, the forgotten art....
- Hello, everybody!...we're finally getting a taste of warmer weather round here with highs maybe getting into 10-12 Celsius the next few days round here....winter is acting like the houseguest who has overstayed his/her welcome by a month or two...![]()
- Well, the site is finally settling back to what resembles normalcy around here but it once exposed a flaw that has long plagued this place..staff/tech people simply don't listen to the members about probs. Members have posted repeatedly about a frozen actor database and editorships not being granted. Staff response? " We're shorthanded " and " We didn't see this coming "...sigh....I would imagine for a few long time members here, it seems like they are pushing a boulder up a hill that keeps rolling back on them again and again and again....![]()
- Red Green recap stats:
Recaps done: 257
Recorded but not yet recapped: 20
Not yet recorded and recapped: 23
(above totals not reflecting specials)
- I see list of personal questions are making their way round blogs but I'm not inclined to type out 72 questions so I'll do one every so often...![]()
34. Worst movie I've ever seen?
During my college days, me and a bunch of guys rented what looked to be a low budget zombie horror movie. We quickly learned that " low budget" was flattering this movie as half of it was a guy badly dressed as some sort of hunchback showing how they did the cheesy stunts for the movie that only lasted 45 minutes. How bad was it? The guys forwarded past the closing credits to see if the actual movie came after them...![]()
- Amusing news item of the day: Someone found a 850 metre long beaver dam in northern Alberta...I'm sure there's a joke there about low income housing or how the beavers are outsourcing much of the construction work but I'm not touching it...![]()
That's about all...oh, if anybody knows a site where I can get reliable Canadian airdates in the mid 70's for shows, drop me a PM...thanks!
Take care, everybody!
I miss my friend.
Canceled or maybe not?
Howdy, everybody!...we're finally getting a taste of somewhat springlike weather here though it's in fits and starts and they're calling for some snow on the weekend....can't have it consistently warm and coolish, I guess...![]()
- Well, the person search engine is messed up...I added a new name for a crew for Lassie (12th season) and it has yet to show up after 2+ days...I'm sure, though, that the techies are working hard on solving the problem as I type......![]()
- Working on da guides slowly but surely...next blog, I'll post recap totals for Red Green..I haven't figured out exact numbers but it's at least 260 done, which I'm proud of irregardless of quality ( a sketch show does make for tougher recapping)
- Now for the blog title....Jericho may not be dead yet according to the news here on the front page. I don't know what to make of this...false smoke signals....signs of internal conflict in the CBS exec boardrooms....maybe the numbers are down overall for all CBS shows (hits and non hits).
The other show that fits the blog title is, surprisingly, MVP...apparently, the show is being picked up by the US channel Soapnet and CBC is going to watch the ratings down there to see if the show should be uncanceled....these times, they are uncertain ones.....
Well, that's about all...it's NHL playoff time here which means a lotta Canadian households will be tuned to that over the next two months ( well, except for Leaf fans....again...)
Take care, everybody!

Survivor Dire Straights and Dead Weight Avg Score: 8.49 Total Ratings: 62 Total Reviews: 10 Users who disagree: 1 |
However, two things dominate this episode overall. First, Yul , upon his arrival at Exile Island, deciphers the clues and finds the Hidden Immunity Idol! Hopefully, he'll keep this discovery to himself or at least use it at some point this year.
The other item that dominated this episode is the decision by Aitu to <b>throw</b> an immunity challenge so they can vote out Billy. This was done in such an obvious manner during the challenge that it even looked like they were trying to shake the rope bridge they were on to make Billy fall off! Pretty nasty stuff, to say the least.....
All in all, a very strong episode for early in the season. This reviewer hopes things stay this good as the season unfolds.

Rocket Robin Hood Dementia Five Avg Score: 8.77 Total Ratings: 3 Total Reviews: 1 Users who agree: 1 Users who disagree: 1 |
The basic premise of this episode is that Rocket Robin Hood and Little John journey to a nightmare dimension to stop galaxies from being destroyed by a malevolent force.
With backgrounds and scenes that were truly imaginative ( the scene where Robin/Little John gets pulled into the void by a hand stands out in particular), this is one ep that this reviewer could watch many times.
Recommended!!
The show will revolve, it seems, around the character of Jake and he is shown to be a heroic, though with flaws, character. The other characters in Jericho are given less air time but a few seem interesting to say the least.
The one danger with a show like this is how to keep it believable and entertaining at the same time. Judging from this first episode, this reviewer believes they have the right mix as long as they avoid too many cliche driven scenarios.
Good start!!!

Survivor I Can Forgive Her But I Don't Have to Because She Screwed With My Chickens Avg Score: 8.67 Total Ratings: 82 Total Reviews: 12 Users who disagree: 1 |
Overall, a good start to the season....Exile Island is in play again this year and looks even more foreboding than before ( a decided lack of trees on it, to say the least).

Carpocalypse Outrigger Race/ School Bus Demo Derby Avg Score: 9.40 Total Ratings: 1 Total Reviews: 1 Users who disagree: 1 |
This reviewer won't mention who won the penultimate races in this ep though it won't surprise someone who carefully watches the preparations. Nevertheless, this episode was great fun to watch and if it is the last episode of the series (as it has been rumored), it goes out consistent with its message of destruction and energy unchanged. If the show is not reviewed by the host network, this reviewer can only hope that it is picked up by a network willing to promote episodes such as this a bit better.
