Farewell to Jordan and SG1

I've known for a while that one of my longest running favorite shows are leaving. Now I find out that a really awesome ME has seen her last show as well. I'm really going to miss the SG1 team, though I believe Atlantis promises to save some of the characters and bring them to the Pegasus galaxy. That will at least mean I get to meet some of them again. And Atlantis is staying, which is great news! But Jordan Cavanaugh will not come back, and I don't think Boston will be quite the same without her. I'm still waiting for the rerun of the series finales, which is coming up in a couple of weeks. It'll be a very sad day, indeed. Fortunately, all my otherfavorites are returning and it seems that there might be a couple of new promising shows. Hopefully, they'll live up to it.

One of those days

I was tired and not feeling well getting up this morning. But I had to go to work. Stopped and mailed some Christmas gifts overseas.... $40 for two packages. Not a great start on the day. Got to work. Bad news. I have to cover a couple in crisis - tomorrow - because I'm on duty and they couldn't do it today. Blah. Best of all, they can't come until 4 pm, which means my early day home is gone. Eventually got to my office. I had 20 minutes to finish up some paperwork to make the afternoon look brighter. Instead I got a bunch of supervisors and even more students doing their end-of-semester chit-chat. Of course, they were right outside my office, talking really loud. One guy thought humming was a great pastime between students. No work got done and I left with even more of a headache than I came with to see a client who was miserable like always. Good way to get a perspective, but then I was running a little late for my lunch appointment. Lunch was good, but the rain on the way back wasn't exactly icing on the cake since I didn't have an umbrella. I eventually got back to work, and my email on my computer was throwing fits. I was allowed some time to "complain" (I originally used the word for female dog because it was a better description of what I did, but it was censored - hah!) to some (wonderful) co-workers before I had to go to a presentation. As I walked to the presentation I kept thinking that it would be wonderful to go home, get in bed, have my two cats come and cuddle, waiting for someone to come home, crawl in bed with me, and tell me he loves me. The brutal reality didn't allow that fantasy to come true..... So, I went to the presentation, talked to some people afterwards, planned a gingerbread house building party Friday night, went home and plopped down with a disk of season 1 of NCIS. And now, Miami is coming on and I'm going to watch another hour of mindless tv before going to bed. And maybe I'll dream that my fantasy will come true. Maybe a dream guy entering my bed will make up for the lack of a real one... But the real thing'd be nice.

Bittersweet happiness

I attended a work pot luck today. As I was driving home - having been faced with several happily married people with and without children - I realized that I'm really happy with my life. I'm happy with being in school and working with the people I work with. I'm happy not being Miss Social Butterfly, and instead spend a lot of time at home with my cats, my books, and my tv - on my couch, by my computer, in my bed. I'm happy being single and free from children. I'm content with studying a lot and having a few people in my life who really seem to get me.

Realizing this after observing others who have what I really wish for in life, while being on a 3-week-and-counting period, and not having much money or free time, was a true gift. I'm happy with my life, and there are a lot of people who can't say that.

Thanks.

October 15

In 3 months and 5 days I'm taking one of the biggests tests in my life. It's not really compatible with wanting to not study. What I should be doing right now is work on a couple of papers to free up time later in semester and over breaks. One of them I'm almost done with. The other one I need to finish by Wednesday, and though I have done most of the preparation for it, I still need to sit down and write. And I'm waiting for the evening to come along, always a great excuse for stretching out on the couch with a remote. Maybe I'll do some house cleaning instead. That's better than studying.

Reward

I finished a huge paper today. As a reward I get to watch tv for a while tonight before continuing with a presentation and a second paper tomorrow. It's interesting that I expected a sense of accomplishment and relief from finishing this paper and didn't receive it. I wonder why.

On the agenda tonight is: Smallville, Criminal Minds, and CSI Miami. And I'm combining that with some pizza.

It's Me or the Dog

I had heard about the "Dog Whisperer" and wanted to see it. When I accidentally came across "It's Me or the Dog" I was instantly hooked. It is a great 30 minute show that not only is entertaining, but it also provides information on what to do and not to do when being a dog owner. The problems addressed range from dogs that are spoiled to dogs with separation anxiety to owners who have no previous experience as dog owners. The techniques Victoria Stillwell demonstrates and teaches dog owners are based on sound behavioral techniques, discovered and researched by big names in the field of psychology like Pavlov and Skinner. Previous reviews have claimed the show is "a bad copy of Dog Whisperer." Well, "It's Me or a Dog" can hardly be a copy since the two shows premiered at about the same time and would have been planned and probably filmed at the same time, prior to the premier of "Dog Whisperer." In addition, the shows present information completely different and emphasizes different ways of working with dogs. Personally, I prefer "It's Me or the Dog." But, don't take mine or someone elses opinion. Check it out for yourself. I don't think you'll regret it if you are into dogs.

This is one of the best CSI episodes I've watched. This was an episode that lays out all the difficulties in drawing conclusions that you can think of. Witnesses say one thing, which physical evidence does not substantiate, leading to a dramatic reenactment of what probably happened. The conclusion was stunning, but even more heart-wrenching is the discussion among the CSIs at the end of the show. Who is willing to kills, who is not? 2 votes for, 1 against, and 1 on the fence. Gil, expected to be the tie breaker, closes the episode very eloquently: Who is speaking for the vicitim? Why did he have to die? Why did no one ask him what was going on, if he needed help? Instead, they reacted and killed. They killed a sick man who was unable to control his actions. Gil Grissom, as always, has a wonderful humanistic side to him. For someone so rooted in science, he is also a very good person.

I loved this episode. It's been so sad watching the last few episodes with Appa and Aang missing each other. This episode showing how the kids continue their search for Appa and how they figure out that the Dai Lee is up to no good, ending in a huge fight and Appa saving the day, reuniting with Aang. I also enjoyed the development with Prince Zuko, who appears to be changing and developing for the better as a person. Lastly, it was touching to see how Jet and his gang returned and then watch Jet's struggle as he realized who he was, eventually sacrificing himself for Aang. Another great Avatar episode, well worth watching.

Ally McBeal came on when I was 17 and I loved watching the first season. Then I left the US and lived in Norway who had yet to discover Ally. By the time they did, the second season was on here, and they started with the first season. I am sad to say that I never watched it again after the first season. Sad because it was a really fun show that made me laugh. A show about attorneys that had problems on their own that made their lives the perfect base for a comedy. So what happened to them all? Where are the re-runs?

Wow. Grocery shopping on a budget. I didn't realize that was difficult. The complete lack of appreciation for the people that does your housework - because you didn't know what a vaccum is and/or how to use it. I thought it was great. I laughed. And I returned to watch it again for the rest of the time it was on. And while watching I hoped that this would be an eye opening experience for the vast majority of the world for the "rich" kids. And I also thank the WB for making it very obvious that money is nice, but over-appreciated. I'd rather know how to vaccum than not to. Not being rich apparently gives you a lot a valuable experience that money can't buy.

About Me

I realized it was time to join in on tv.com when I found myself stopping by about daily... At the moment, my goal is to catch up with some shows that I got into a little late. And some of them are ending... So not fun. Hopefully the replacements will be worthy.
