Strike.....
On the other hand, thanks to the strike, I've had a chance to catch up on other tv shows that I normally wouldn't have had time to watch. Check out the amazing Charlie Jade from South Africa, Dr. Who and Torchwood from the UK. And I even got round to watching all four seasons of Enterprise. And it was a lot better than I expected. I only have the strike to thank for that.

Angry at CW!! So Angry!
So, CW cancelled Veronica Mars. And renewed One Tree Hill and Smallville. The powers that be at that network must be out of their minds. How an witty, intelligent show like VM gets shut down and over the brainlessness of OTH and the well-past its prime Smallville is beyond me.
And what about all those awful reality shows they are developing next season? Who in their right mind is going to watch those?? Is the US audience really that brain-dead or is it just the network exec who think they are. They should just take a look at the watch or pass polls here on tv.com for a better view! Bring back Veronica!!!

We have learned recently that Starbuck has been drawing and seeing the 'eye of Jupiter' since she was a little girl. We learned in this episode that her unstableness and self-destructive streak stem from unresolved mother issues. She never had a chance to say goodbye to her dying mother and hence never had closure. That I can buy.
The whole episode is filled with not so suddle foreshadowing of the ending. Kara and Lee pick out their spots on the wall of the dead. The candle drips multicolored wax onto the floor in the shape of starbuck's visions. Starbuck gives Adama a figurehead for the model ship he is building in a 'goodbye' gesture.
But I can't accept that Starbuck's much-hyped destiny was to kill herself in a storm on some unknown planet on the way to Earth. She is too important a character to meet her end in such an unimportant manner. I truly hope that this 'ending' was simply a tactic to throw us fans off the track of her real destiny. I don't think she's dead at all.

The kidnappers make it seem that Sara has been killed, but we discover it was a setup. Because the Senator believes his wife is dead, he decides to vote NO for the election of Judge Ranier to the Supreme Court. The FBI must stop the senator's vote or else his wife really will be killed. The episode ends with Kelton getting shot when he is telling the senator that his wife's death was a setup and that there is still hope in finding her. So is Kelton really dead?? Looked like a pretty fatal shot to me! Very brave of the show to kill off the lead character just 7 episodes in. Can't wait to see what they do next. This time I have no predicitons, except I'm still convinced the son is the mastermind behind everything.
House even asks Cameron out on a date only to be rejected. He's not broken anymore, so there is nothing left for her to fix.
And did you notice how the entire hospital seems to reflect House's new happy outlook on life. He's not miserable anymore. The walls are suddenly colorful and everything is much more light. The hospital seems an extension of his emotional state.
But we have foreshadowing of whats to come. House does feel a slight pain in his leg. He knows the treatment might not be permanent. And after Wilson refuses to give him a perscription for Vicodin, and Cuddy refuses to let him follow his gut for a treatment for one of his patients, House takes matters into his own hands. He breaks into Wilson's office and forges a Vicodin perscription for himself.
It is obvious that the new happy House is only temporary as we witness to slide back to his miserable old self begin by the end of the episode.
And let's not forget about the driven tv reporter who sees an opportunity for fame in covering the senator's wife kidnapping story. Last but definately not least, that goatee on the concierge should have been a dead giveaway! Bad guys always have goatees! If you've watched the pilot, you'll know exactly what I mean.
But inspite of the cookie-cutter characters, the storyline is captivating. And even though I guessed most of the twists and turns during the pilot episode, it still made for captivating tv. I already have my own theory on who is the master-mind behind the kidnapping (the son did it!). And now I'm gonna have to watch the entire season to see if I'm right or wrong. I just hope that this show doesn't get Foxed or we'll never know who kidnapped Sara. Just like we never knew who killed Sam last year on Reunion.
