Dallas Ruthless People Avg Score: 7.54 Total Ratings: 9 Total Reviews: 2 |
Most of the episode centered around people trying to expose J.R.'s illegal activities with B.D. Calhoun. Mrs. Scotfield got a local yokel newspaper guy to print a story about J.R.'s actions and the CIA's coverup. The CIA's Dohthrey quickly warned her against further work and threatened her and her CIA file clerk brother with prison time. However, Jeremy Wendell did get wind of her work and saw an opportunity to get J.R. (who had embarrassed Jeremy in the first of the episode by revealing that April had been working for J.R. and pretending to work for Jeremy).
I felt the Miss Ellie anger storyline was stilted. There wasn't a lot of evidence of Miss Ellie's anger in prior episodes. Ellie knew about the problems with Calhoun episodes ago, and just now decided to blow over it. I think they just needed a reason to get Bobby to want out of Ewing Oil and that was it. Notice that Ellie comforts J.R. in the next episode, so it was kind of a one time thing.
Furthermore, the scene in the Oil Baron's that got Ellie all angry (where the men were talking bad about Clayton and Ellie) was a little unlikely also. For one thing, everybody should have known that Ellie wasn't the boss of Ewing Oil, and that Clayton had no part in it. Secondly, even if it had been J.R., I don't see why oil men would be so unhappy. Illegal or not, J.R. organized Calhoun's effort to cripple OPEC's production and HELP the Texas Oil industry. He probably would have been regarded as a hero among Oilmen in the Ollie North fashion.
So, I think the storyline was a little unbelievable this time.

Dallas The Family Ewing Avg Score: 8.60 Total Ratings: 22 Total Reviews: 1 |
This is a Bobby rememberance episode. Most every character grieves over his death in this episode. J.R., while mournful, does take time out to blame Sue Ellen for not being around when it happened. A stronger bond begins to develop in this episode between Miss Ellie and J.R., and they are indeed closer during the dream season than in any other season. Ellie tells Gary that he should be in California where he would be happiest, the first time she hasn't tried to convince him to move to Dallas.
It is interesting that the treehouse built by Jock for Bobby has a sign that labels Bobby as "president of Ewing Oil". That may be a little bit of revisionist history, since surely at that time, Jock saw J.R. as his successor.
A side note to this episode is Dusty spending time with Sue Ellen (even hitting Sue Ellen) in an attempt to get her sober for Bobby's funeral.

Dallas The Decline and Fall of the Ewing Empire Avg Score: 6.88 Total Ratings: 13 Total Reviews: 1 |
This episode starts off typical but then tries to rush a concept to get J.R. to the brink of personal despair. As of the start of the episode, J.R. does not believe he\'ll be the head of weststar (even with Clayton\'s shares), does not own any part of Ewing Oil, and knows that Bobby is the owner of Southfork and that James has left Southfork to go back east, yet he acts like a typical J.R. (moving on excitedly). Yet at the end of the episode, he doesn\'t have any of these things (plus John Ross bails on him) and it\'s a tragedy for him and he\'s ready to end it all.
Also, I never understood why Phyllis was so bitter toward J.R. OK, they hadn\'t been the best of friends, but J.R. had offered to hire her back at his new company after Michelle fired her from Ewing Oil and was willing to make her his secretary after Sly left. I thought Phyllis was a little rough.
It just seems like too much happens too fast. J.R. tried to get it all and failed in one episode. I know they were running out of time for the series and needed to set up their \"wonderful life\" ending, but still out of character.
J.R should have known that Dusty wouldn\'t have wanted him to have the voting rights, and he knew that Dusty owned the shares.

Dallas Who Done It? Avg Score: 8.58 Total Ratings: 29 Total Reviews: 2 |
This is a pivotal episode to say the least, and the best known in series history. The police arrest Sue Ellen for shooting J.R. because of her fingerprints being on the weapon. So it is up to Sue Ellen to find a way to clear her name. The Ewings won't pay her bail, but an unidentified person does. While this storyline was suberb, the revelation of J.R's shooter was really lame. Sue Ellen uses "hypnosis" to find out that she put the gun down when she was at Kristen's condo, and remembers that Kristen was at Southfork the next day to hide the gun. Sue Ellen gives this info to J.R. and J.R. immediately believes her and it doesn't take much for Kristen to admit to it. Kristen uses her pregnancy to keep J.R. from turning her into the police.

Dallas Wedding Bell Blues Avg Score: 6.69 Total Ratings: 13 Total Reviews: 1 |
This was one of the better episodes of the late seasons. J.R. and Cally get married at a grand party, but a bad storm cuts the reception short, forces basically every main character to spend the night at southfork (including the bride and groom). Sue Ellen attends the wedding and is a nagging thorn in J.R.'s side, plus Cliff's discovery of J.R.'s Ellis County land deal is pivotal and causes conflict. Tommy McKay tries to bed April in John Ross's room and then goes crazy. Don Lockwood gets the chance to sleep on the floor with Cliff Barnes, and gets a perspective on Cliff's past dealings with Sue Ellen. At the end Cally announces to J.R. that she lied about being pregnant. J.R., surprisingly, does not seem to mind.
