MY REVIEWS

  • show: The Simpsons

    The Bottom Line: "Perfect"

I absolutely LOVE, LOVE "The Simpsons." I have been watching forever. I started watching with the first ep, "Simpsons Roasting on an Open Fire" and have been hooked ever since. The show is flat-out funny and every ep makes me laugh. Over the years, the show got better and better, culminating with the hilarious, "Simpsons Movie" on the big screen. In recent years, there's been some criticism that the show has declined in quality, however, I still think the show holds up and produces a few gems every season. However, after 20 seasons, it's only natural that certain storylines are repeated so I'll forgive them this as long as they keep making me laugh.

  • show: One Tree Hill

episode: Get Cape. Wear Cape. Fly.

    The Bottom Line: "Great"

It was a good ep. The writing was good and overall the ep was emotional. Even though Q wasn't my favorite character, this ep was pretty good in showing the lives he touched.

I liked the narration by Samantha. The essay she wrote about Q was pretty good. But I thought Haley was a complete witch telling her to move, and then again with the snarky Clothes over Bros remark.

Surprisingly, the Jamie scenes were downplayed which was good. I thought it would all be about him, but, it seemed natural. He was quiet for the most part and even the scenes with him and Q's little brother were palatable. Surprisingly Luke didn't seem to have that prominent a role. Yeah, he was seen a few times talking to the team and with Peyton, but the ep really wasn't about him as much as it was about the others.

Skills-Deb was okay. I liked how she was there for him when Nate had Haley, Luke had Peyton, etc., but I'm still hoping they end their affair.

The Brooke story was intriguing. Was she raped? I dont' know. But it did seem odd that she didn't make any effort to cover up the bruises on her body, when she tried so hard to conceal her black eyes, makes you wonder.

And, as much as I don't like the Nanny Carrie storyline, I actually felt sorry for her with the reveal of her dead son's grave. But, that sorrow didn't last long when I saw the previews for next week when she kidnaps Jamie's bunny (totally ripping off "Fatal Attraction").

A few minor quibbles though, some of the lines said in the ep seemed stitled and forced.

Q's line, "how does a mother breathe?", seemed really odd. Why would he say that? That seems like a scripted line, not something a 22-year-old guy would just say.

Jamie's cape thing at the end was emotional, I guess, but I asked this question before: had Q lived, would he have really worn it? I'm sure he would have thanked Jamie for it and wore it once to humor him, but after that, he would have put it in his closet or something.

  • person: David Fumero

    The Bottom Line: "Perfect"

David is a handsome talented actor, who has played the character of "Cristian Vega" on the popular ABC daytime series, One Life to Live, off-and-on since 1998. Although David was the second actor to portray the role (having replaced original actor Yorlin Madera), David has made the role his own and has been able to portray a wide range of emotions and storylines, including love triangles, family drama and being wrongfully imprisoned for murder. Although David started off as a male model, he has developed a talent for acting as well, evident in his screen work. Because of this, David has remained a fan favorite on One Life to Live, even though he has left the series twice, only to return each time. Recently, he has branched out into acting in small independent films.

  • show: 90210

    episode: Lucky Strike

    The Bottom Line: "Good"

Watching the latest ep of 90210 2.0, I notice how much the new series reminds me of the early days of the original, that is, when the Walshes first moved to BH and were so *gasp* wholesome. This was before all the love triangles and melodrama that eventually enveloped the show. New 90210 is just like that, but I wonder how long until the racy stuff comes into play.

I must say, the CW did a good job marketing this episode, because I got suckered into watching this thinking it would be about Kelly, Silver and their pill-popping, hard-drinking mama. But, imagine to my surprise, the scene was in the last 5 minutes of the ep. I wonder how many old school fans were tricked into that one? And no Brenda!!

Anyway, while the Wilsons are wholesome enough, their story seemed a little bland. And where was Grandma?! So Mom and Pops Wilson feel there's not enough family time, so... let's go... bowling!! The fact that Dixon and Annie didn't want to be there and had other plans just wasn't compelling enough for any real dramatic tension. Plus, Naomi and her daddy issues bored me to tears. The Ethan/Naomi/Annie triangle is also not doing it for me. While I like Kelly, I just don't see the sparks between her and Mr. Matthews. The only story I liked was Silver and her issues, but that was reduced to the background until pretty much the end of the ep when Dixon found her sleeping in her car and Kelly confronted their mother.

My advice: More Silver (and Grandma), less Naomi.

  • show: General Hospital: Night Shift

    episode: Pay It Forward

    The Bottom Line: "Great"

NS Season 2 has been hit or miss all season. This ep certainly fell in line with that theme. Robert's multi-episode storyline regaring his cancer battle, featured here again, was right on the mark. It sparked emotion and heart, especially for long-time GH viewers, who are now seeing the once great Robert Scorpio reduced to a broken-down old man while his daughter Robin has finally realized that, as a doctor, there really wasn't much she could do except love him. However, not all plots were able to resonate as much as Robert's storyline. Ryan's organ-donation story was intriguing at first, but then took a left turn. His death, while unexpected, just didn't hit home. Maybe because we barely got to know him or maybe because it just seemed so out of the blue. Medically, there was nothing wrong with him when he was wheeled into surgery, all health and happiness. So when Patrick and Epiphany saw Claire in the hall, it was like WTF!? Did they just throw that in for the heck of it? His death didn't have the emotional punch of Stacey Sloan's death last season. Maybe because we got to know Stacey a little bit and were invested in her character. Ryan, while cute enough, didn't really leave a lasting impact.

As for Jagger, again he was totally misused. I thought there would finally be some drama where we finally got to see him in action as an FBI agent, but that fell flat pretty quickly when he was reduced to following Patrick around the hospital.

As for the relationship drama, I just don't see sparks between Toussaint and Epiphany, so its hard to invest in their relationship, if that's what it's called. As for Saira and Leo's "whatever," I never thought those two fit, so it didn't surprise me that Leo and Claire ended up together. I think Saira made the wrong choice and would like to see what would have happened with Jagger. But with only a handful of eps left, I don't see that happening.

All in all, it was a good episode, just not great.
