Head of the Class Back to School Avg Score: 8.67 Total Ratings: 3 Total Reviews: 1 |
If I had originally watched this episode back when it first aired in '89, then I probably would've been extremely distraught at seeing three of the original students suddenly gone. That aside, I felt it was a decent episode, though some things seemed a little off to me.
I didn't like the new opening sequence, which instead of showing the school and its happenings shows a canned cast photo. I also didn't like how the class ganged up on the new kids, regardless of how hurt they were over losing their old friends. Who's to say that a new kid doesn't have the right to be in that class? And as annoying a character as TJ can be, I also felt she didn't deserve to be snubbed.
So we get a new group of students---Alex, Aristotle and Viki. I wouldn't have minded much if the first two were around from the beginning---they seemed like cool characters. But it makes no sense how they replaced gorgeous Leslie Bega's Maria, a spacy yet brainy girl for Lara Piper's Viki, a complete airhead with uncooked Ramen Noodle hair who looks old enough to be a teacher about to retire.
I'm also glad Dan Schneider lost the weight (to gain it back over time), but it seemed odd to me to see a thin Dennis.
Once again, I'm glad I had seen this episode in 2006, and not in 1989. I don't think I'd handle the changes as well.

Star Trek Spock's Brain Avg Score: 6.13 Total Ratings: 102 Total Reviews: 6 Users who agree: 1 |
I finally got to see what seems to be unanimously considered the worst episode: "Spock's Brain." I tried to watch it with an open mind (not letting what had been said about it affect my take on it)...but I found it bad regardless. The episode had the potential to be good and interesting, but there seemed to be no point to it whatsoever. It could've been commentary on people that are complacent being stupid ("I'm not ready for the knowledge!" reminds me of too many kids who just don't care and think it's cute to be stupid), but it didn't achieve that goal. The dialogue was redundant and simplistic: in one scene, Sulu, Uhura and Kirk pretty much say the same thing---that something is "there." (I cannot remember the exact terminology...but it was repetitive.) And poor Leonard Nimoy. I read "I Am Spock" and he said how thankless his role in that episode was. And Spock seemed more pedantic than usual in the end...and dare I say it happy. Vulcans aren't supposed to show happiness (even half-Vulcan Spock who is constantly fighting that emotional human side). I believe it was because Nimoy was happy to have lines finally in the end...as opposed to those "talking brain" voiceovers he did.

Grey's Anatomy Deterioration of the Fight or Flight Response Avg Score: 9.25 Total Ratings: 536 Total Reviews: 34 |
I was extremely disappointed with this finale episode. I got into a slight debate about this at work..."Who cares about realism?" I heard from co-workers. Well, I do. I thought the idea of a prom...for a girl we've barely heard about (regardless of her being the chief's niece...and why a niece and not a daughter, with the way they went crazy over her?) was ridiculous. There is no way surgeons will have the time and patience to set the main floor of a hospital to look like a high school prom. Plus let's not forget that some nutjob was just shooting up the place! Would you really want to be responsible for something happening to your teenager there? However, I did think that the end of Denny's plotline was done well. That story had been stretched out for too long and it needed to end. I was disappointed with how Meredith, who told Derek she was not a "whore!" in a previous episode, ended up having sex with him regardless. I did really like this show, but I'm slowly losing faith in it. I hate how the interns act like oversexed and irresponsible children as opposed to young adults trying to make something of themselves in the medical field.
I guess I am asking for too much when wanting realism in a fictional TV show...ha. (sarcasm)

Cree Summer Avg Score: 9.31 Total Ratings: 114 Total Reviews: 18 |
Too bad Cree doesn't consider herself much of an actress (as she stated in an interview years ago)...I would love to see her appear physically on a TV show again. Her character Freddie on "A Different World" was quirky, different, and delightfully eccentric. Cree had charisma and had excellent physical comedy skills. (For instance, in the ADW episode called "Tales From the Exam Zone," she stood perfectly still when she was supposed to be "frozen in time" and Sinbad's character waved his hand in front of her face. Later in that episode, she had a hilarious moment fighting herself!) Cree is also an excellent singer, too (check out her album "Street Faerie"). It is fun stumbling across her voice work (like the Green M&M and the numerous cartoons she does). Keep up the good work, Cree!

Steven Strait Avg Score: 9.66 Total Ratings: 29 Total Reviews: 1 |
Yes, there are a lot of pretty boys in this world, and most of us average Jills have no chance of ever meeting someone like him, sadly. However, we can dream and this guy is too fine and sexy for his age! I hope he returns to TV and fine-tunes his acting. While his performance in "Sky High" was a great breakthrough one, seeing him in "Undiscovered" was cringe-worthy and I pray he makes better choices in his acting roles in the future. All we can do is see how well he does in "The Covenant" this fall and "10,000 B.C." next year.
