Why I doubt I'll be updating much

Okay, I already have one blog, that's really as much as I can possibly maintain.

So, if you're that curious, send me a message if you have a myspace account and I can add you so you can read my blog.

Little Einsteins
A Galactic Goodnight

It's bedtime in the Rocket Room, and the Little Einsteins are having a slumber party. Each of the kids shows what they do to help them fall asleep every night, but before they can fully fall asleep, something wakes them up. Rocket can't fall asleep! They decide to go on a mission into outer space, counting planets to help Rocket fall asleep. They check on him several times in the solar system, to see if he's tired enough yet, but it is not enough until they reach Pluto.

I guess they probably wrote this episode before the big change that made Pluto no longer a planet, and I have mixed feelings about it. I grew up knowing there are nine planets, and I know my kids may very well have to grow up knowing there are eight. This episode's counting Pluto as a planet isn't necessarily the worst thing, but it will be interesting to explain to my kids in a few years when they're in school, if they remember this episode.

Regardless, great episode, very educational (like always), a subject I may not have necessarily thought of teaching my four and two year old kids, but a great idea nonetheless.

The episode itself isn't an extremely interesting or unique, it's a regular mission where they help an animal, something they often do.

It's not the episode itself that makes me give it such a high rating, it's my kids' reaction to the episode. It is, without a doubt, one of the easiest ways to get both of my kids to laugh, without having to tickle them. I don't know if it's that the characters spend so much time laughing, or if because of the silly song and accompanying face, but whatever it is, laughter fills the house when this episode is on.

I also love that someone took the song Flight of the Bumblebee and made it about something other than an insect!

Victor Garber

My opinion of Victor Garber is based almost solely on his performances in Alias. Outside of that, I remember seeing him guest-starring in an episode of Will & Grace that I will forever remember and love.

Regardless, he has more talent in his pinky than so many other actors have in their whole bodies, and his alter ego, Jack Bristow, could probably torture you and bring you to your knees using that one pinky. One of his famous facial twitches can convey a plethora of emotions and responses. One twitch here, and you know you're about the bite the big one. Another twitch there, and he's worried about his darling daughter. Yet another, and he's contemplating how to do what needs to get done while not breaking the law... much.

He seems like the kind of person I'd love to meet in real life, too, but that's something the entire cast of Alias seems to share.

All in all, I'd say he's sinfully delicious!

Perhaps it spoke to the part of me that has never done any drugs (yes, really), but the few episodes of Sex and the City that have dealt with marijuana are my favorites.

I suppose it's something about the way Carrie laughs uncontrollably and kinda infectiously throughout such episodes (especially this one). My favorite scene is her interacting with Wade and the fried chicken. Somehow, it's not as amusing to other as it is to me, but regardless. This episode is exactly why I watch this series: Carrie is an amazingly free-spirited woman, and she shows it so well in this episode. I would personally never date a guy who owns a comic book store and still lives with his parents, but I am not Carrie. Her willingness to date all sorts of men, and the sort of escapism that it provides me, is one of the biggest reasons I watch Sex and the City.

Yes, I'm a parent that allows her young children to watch tv. It can rot your brain, I know, which is why it's so important to be selective about what you let your kids watch.

Little Einsteins is a show meant for preschoole-age children, and it does a great job entertaining and teaching them, provided you aren't Supermom raising children with 200+ IQs, but I doubt that kind of mom would let their kids near a tv. I personally have two toddlers, and it is their absolute favorite show.

I've seen enough shows made for kids this age, both alone for a few moments and with my kids at great length to know what I want them to watch. Little Einsteins are pretty new, but very popular (not something I really technically know, but since it's only been around since August on DVD and October on tv, and a new DVD has been released, apparently also a new cd, and new episodes seem to be churned out every other week, I feel it's a safe assumption), and there's a reason. The characters are cute and somehow relatable--each of my kids has a favorite, Quincy is my son's, June is my daughter's, the music gives classical music cute lyrics, so it's catchy (and I'm so thankful that it's really giving my kids a love of classical music) important pieces of art are prominently displayed in every episode, and new words my kids would have not known for years are introduced (Allegro! Ritardando! Staccato!). There aren't many life lessons or helpful songs like on The Wiggles, but there are plenty of shows like that already.

All in all, it's a great show that's different enough from other shows to not annoy the hell out of me, but similar enough that my kids instantly fell in love. I absolutely recommend all parents of 18 month old to six year old children allow their kids to watch. You'll find yourself singing lyrics to music you never tried to put lyrics to.
