20 days to go....

...till my Holiday! I'm so excited!!

I am looking forward to this for a few reasons;

1. I am finally going to the UK. I have never been and I have a stack of rellies in Scotland whom I need to visit. Plus I would love to visit a few of the DW locations and say "Hippo's been there" when they come on the tellie!!

2. Work is really getting me down and out at the moment. Never felt quite so on edge. Sitting and staring at a computer all day isn't good either

3. I kinda like this guy and it's a really bad idea. Seriously in the history of bad ideas, this is probably the worst one I've ever had. Though it's not so much like an idea, but a horrible overly emotioal attachment. I need to separate myself from him and meet new people. Lots of new people.

Also I am going to try really hard to update my blog images / icons and such over the next little while. I feel like I haven't been around enough in the last 6 months and the weeds have started to grow in my blog. Time to fix that!!

I'll post again soon

Canceled Flights, Limited Laptop Battery life and TV.com Australian Logie Stuff

Oh my. Had a 645am flight to Auckland (or dorkland as its more affectionately known) this morning and when I get to the airport - it's canceled. The Qantas people tell me they tried to ring me last night when it was canceled. But I got no call. So I was up at sparrow's fart for no good reason. Yay, this is going to be a great day.

Now I'm working off the old laptop and there's limited life in the old battery (even though it's been charging all nigth). Stinky, McStinks. I have a ton of work to do and I'm not sure it's going to last. Good thing I'm not wasting any time blogging or anything like that!!

For us Aussies on TV.com, we have long grumbled about the lack of Aussie - related features on here. Today I noticed the Logie Feature (nice homage to aussie tv award show). So all Aussies get over there and make your comments!! We need to show that we are interested in Aussie features so there may be more in the future. Link http://www.tv.com/story/11099.html?&page=1

Well that's all for now -- should get some of this work done in the next 2 HOURS I'm waiting for the next plane. Have a better day than me, love hippo xox

Birthdays, Two Year Anniversaries and other stuff

Yep twas my birthday a couple of weeks ago. I was 2X. Anyone care to guess what the 2nd number is? All went well on the day and I went out for dinner at the weekend with the family. Thanks to everyone who sent me special messages on and around the day. They were greatly appreciated Living by yourself in another country can be a bit lonely but it was nice to get so many greetings from my online buddies. Thanks and hugs

My second Tv.com anniversay snuck up and went past without me realising it. I was sorry because I was going to do something special for it .... ie make myself a new banner...but time is really escaping me at the moment. Oh well holiday coming up soon

I hope everyone is well. I apologise again to everyone who I haven't managed to comment on in the last weeks, month etc and I know that excuses really aren't going to cut it. Time has been tight, I have been in five cities in the last two weeks with plenty of early mornings and late nights. I am a bit streched for time all over and am hoping that the holiday I have planned will clear out the old soul and give me more energy to get back into doing the stuff that I like to do on a regular basis (i.e. hippos, tv.com stuff) Who knows....

Love and Hugs

How I got it right...and wrong

Well I did better than last year, but still not fabulous. I knew that No Country for Old Men would do well and the best picture pick is my proudest hit in this hit and miss list Plus I missed animated feature all together..

Actor - Daniel Day Lewis
Supporting Actor - Javier Bardam

Actress - Julie Christie
Supporting Actress - Cate Blanchet
Art Direction - Atonement
Cinematography - No Country for Old Men
Costume - Sweeny Todd
Directing - Juno
Doco Feature - Sicko
Doco Short - Salim Baba
Film Editing - Bourne Ultimatum
Foreign Language - 12
Make Up - La Vie en Rose
Music Score - The Kite Runner
Music Song - Once
Best Picture - No Country for Old Men
Animated Short - Peter and the Wolf

Live Short - At Night
Sound Editing - Transformers
Sound Mixing - 3:10 to Yuma
Visual Effects - The Golden Compass
Writing Adapted - Atonement
Writing Original - Juno

It's always hard to tell with the Art Direction, Cinematography, Make up and Costume awards. While I liked Sweeny Todd's cossies, I didn't really think it deserved art direction. I also thought that No Country was more interesting that There will be blood cinematography wise. I was really pleased with the selection of films for this year's oscars.

It's nice to talk about movies. I have had a hard day and I am enjoying the distraction.

I personally quite liked the finale :D I think that Sylar and Peter will have a big show down later...somewhere at the end of season 2 maybe and that's when all the stops will be pulled out. This battle was about everyone coming together to stop the tragedy...and everyone played their part :D I was half expecting Agent Hansen to turn up in that final scene though...

There were somethings I was expecting to get answers about, which I didn't. But I think that the episode was well-balanced enough to give an overall feeling of satisfcation and further mystery.Loved Sylar's reaction to Hiro with the sword, almost like impatience :P. I think that he needs to be underestimated. I also hope he stays slightly naive for the next season...he's much more entertaining that way...better than future Hiro.

I have to say that the stand out performance of the series has been from Zach Quinto. I think that Sylar is a really awkward character, hard to plot in conventional means, and he's shown great diversity within the part. I also have to say that Milo Ventimiglia has come so far since Gilmore Girls I'm happy to say I hardly associate him to the role he played (Jess) anymore.

I'm really looking forward to learning more about the past before the story goes forward. We had a sintalising taste in a few scenes...love to know what Charles Deveaux was talking about re: Peter...but I think there's enough in the episode to make me lose sleep over the storylines for the next three months, which I anticipate was the intention of the writers.

Hoping that the Heroes:Origins spin off is something to fill in the dark empty space Heroes will leave in my Week...:P

I couldn't help feeling that this episode was very similar to the first Season's "The Unquiet Dead" and Season 2's "Tooth and Claw" and that there is a bit of a pattern devloping there. Nonetheless I thought this was a good solid story.

I think the relationship between Martha and the Doctor is developing nicely, but I really hope that the direction of Martha is different to Rose, as I alway felt Rose and the Doctor had an odd and uncomfortable relationship from the viewer's perspective.

Some of the references were a bit naff, and Shakespeare's constant comments on using the Doctors words was a little contradictory to the fact he was meant to be a genius and also a little repeditive.

I liked the witches and the basis for their power. I wasn't 100% convinced by the Doctor's explanation of their power but I liked the idea, being a bit of a Harry Potter fan myself.

Overall, not too bad. Not as thrilling as "Tooth and Claw" but still interesting.

It was by chance that I first found out about this show, so I decided to try to catch an episode or two to see what it's all about. It's definitely got promise. Compared to all of the other Sci-Fi Supernatural shows around at the moment, this one has the least pretense about it. I did feel it needed a bit more of the 'magic' but there's plenty of time for that now the show's proven itself to be non-reliant on special effects.

Baz is a great Australian director whose perspective can always bring out the Beauty, Truth and Love of a story in a briliiant, shiny fashion. Probably best know for his films Moulin Rouge and Romeo and Juliet he has also directed a version of La Boheme the opera, continuing his strong bohemian work.

Richard Roxburgh is one of those actors I'd seen around on Australian TV for a few years before it was realised how great an actor he actually is. He's been my favourite Sherlock Homes (TV), the crazy investor in Moulin Rouge, Dracula in Van Helsing and many many more fine roles. He is a truly great Aussie actor - up there with Geoffrey Rush.
