Dirt Ties That (Don't) Bind Avg Score: 8.84 Total Ratings: 57 Total Reviews: 5 Users who agree: 1 |
The last season of Dirt was one of my favorite shows of last year and this year's new, less gritty style didn't really appeal to me. Until of course I watched this episode and found myself enjoying this episode.
Lucy using sex as a in to a story was something I expected, but the revelation that the man was using her was a nice touch. If you enjoyed the suffocating atmosphere of dirt season 1 than you wouldn't enjoy this episode, but if you like funny, quasi-detective shows with a little dark than this episode and possibly the rest of the seaason will appeal to you.

I was hoping for a slightly more interesting episode, sure it had some interesting moments, but really, some of the perfomances seemed too wooden, (don't hate me, but I actually enjoyed some of the emotion showed from the nikki storyline, cause in the others all we have is sadness or grrrr I'm a dumb guy who can't tell the englishman is the bad guy, really they can only go so far with certain emotions, we need more dang it!) However the most interesting part for me was seeing the differences in each of the characters personalities compared to the first season. Besides Peter and Nathan, the other characters seemed to have grown emotionally, Hiro's more dark, Nikki's more sane, Mohinder went all badass with the knife, even seeing Maya show a little anger was a good change of pace. Still I think Nikki was underused, as she had powers so maybe her sister did too, or her family, and this could have revealed more heroes. Nathan was underused too, but we already know most of the things about him, and if we want to know more the tin man (peter) is still there.
So while the action wasn't as exciting as the last finale, the deaths were a nice touch and would personally love to see either of the dead characters come back, as they didn't seem to be tied into the main storyline (nikki was at the start and nathan was at the end, but please writers, more consistency please)

The Simpsons Rome-Old and Juli-Eh Avg Score: 8.17 Total Ratings: 176 Total Reviews: 20 Users who agree: 1 Users who disagree: 1 |
I thought the Simpsons had lost their awesomeness and had surrended to being crude and 'shocking' like the new other comedies. However this episode changed my mind, it was funny without going too far over the line. The best part, easily, was when Bart and List defended their cardboard castle against the shipping company A.S.S, complete with a fight against a dragon. The Selma and Abe storyline seemed more like a vechile to get more air time for Abe and Selma, and it worked for the most part. However the conclusion seemed a little rushed, and I wish they had kept them together.

Dirt This Is Not Your Father's Hostage Situation Avg Score: 8.88 Total Ratings: 137 Total Reviews: 8 Users who agree: 3 Users who disagree: 1 |
The episode starts fairly normal for a dirt episode, I read the blurb for this episode and thought it would be a basic hostage episode. Well, it was and it wasn't. Pretty obvious that Kenny was going to die, why else show him gaining a relationship, and talk about how he hs vet knowledge.
....Anyway, back on topic, we learn more about the various relationships, the relationship wizard of a maid was hilarious, and a refreshing blast of reason in this show. There was comedy to diffuse the situation, mixed with real emotion of sorts, when someone is killed suddenly, it is not surprising that one or more onlookers laugh as a coping mechinism. Finally, to the message of the episode: No One Was A Hero(all uppercase). This show has been excellent at portraying society as I see it, and this episode was refreshing, to see a strong message, instead of random sex.

So SO SOOOOO much better. To those who were put off by the first two episodes, don't fret, this episode is so much better. We get a better look at Lucy's obsession with her career, where she is at home, holding her magazine like she would hold a long lost lover, she pauses, and the camera changes to a long shot to show the emptyness her house. The extent of Don the schizophrenic's loyalty was shown in this episode, he ignored his "dream girl" and chose to cut off his own finger to get the story for Lucy. The other characters go through their own personal hells too, but this episode seemed to me to be more about Don and Lucy. This episode dispelled my belief that the writers were awful, this show is getting SOOOO much better.
