so-called love is wearing thin/and i won't back down/never fade away....

lol just popping on here a minute to check something, and i happened to read over my last blog post. specifically the part about "no, they can't end without jommy together. it simply wont happen."

HA! how naiive we can be. god, im still so freaking pissed about that.

quick life update: in florida, working for disney. getting really tan, having inappropriate crushes, dealing with 6 females in one apartment. its an adventure.

quick fandom update: even more immersed in 'how i met your mother'. just bought s3 of jag (yes, i know, im WAY behind, but dvds are expensive!). just saw s1 of life and i'd rate it about a 6.5/10. ill tune in to s2, though, with hopes high. saw the new xfiles movie, with a fan that i hooked up w/ via livejournal. it was so ridiculous and LULZY, but great to watch with someone else who knows all of the history behind it, was actually a fan and involved in the fandom. and just started watching that german soap opera with olli/christian today and am IN LOVE. with all of the characters surrounding their storyline, actually. why aren't american soaps this interesting and logical?

ok, back to what i was doing. peace out, y'all!

i dont care if it hurts my eyes/ill stare until im going blind

new season of instant star, YAYYYYY!! i have to say that im disappointed that they're back @ gmajor - ive really liked the progression of jude's music career in previous seasons, and having her join jamie and pagan's new independent label would have been a great step in a new direction. it just seems like a cheap way to explain away the move to a new lobby set. but who the hell cares because JUDE AND TOMMY ARE TOGETHER AND THEY ARE CLEARLY THE MOST ADORABLE THING ON THE PLANET!! judging from some of the music later on in the season (actually, pretty soon now - like in 2 episodes), theres going to be a fight and/or breakup of some sort, but you know that they cant end the series without them together. its just not going to happen.

also? i suddenly like karma and speid. i was never expecting to, but hes so sweet with her, he really seems to balance her out, and i love those little moments when he kind of coaxes her into being a true human. its really cute. im kind of half in love with tyler kyte now.

HAVE I MENTIONED THAT JUDE AND TOMMY ARE ADORABLE??

and ill totally deal with a breakup/fight if it produces songs like 'i just wanted your love'. AWESOME. im not in love with 'live like music', nor the synth trumpets during 'perfect' (synth trumpets? SERIOUSLY??), but the rest of it is pretty awesome. i also like 'ultraviolett' alot. WHY MUST THIS SHOW END???

ps~not having decent internet due to a flaky immature roommate is ANNOYING. just fyi.

the fox network is clearly trying to make my heart explode.

putting the 'bones' and the 'house' finales on the same night? seriously? are you TRYING to kill me?!?!

bones was.....well, im still conflicted as to how i feel about it. it was intense, but at the same time some of it didnt, characteristically, make alot of sense. the opening sequence, while interesting and funny, was a complete letdown from the dramatic cliffhanger of the previous episode. HOWEVER, it did lead to that ridiculously awesome scene in booth's bathroom, so i guess i really shouldnt complain. i mean honestly, how is it possible for seeley booth to be anymore perfect? and then, of course, there's the ending.....*sigh*. i mean on some level, i buy it, but at the same time i still don't. i dont know. i havent gotten a chance to re-watch it yet, maybe i'll have some concrete opinions after i do. i think that i MIGHT be able to forgive it if they follow through next season, and show the anguish that the team is going through. i mean after caroline's awesome 'you all have to work together' speech, and cam's 'you take away one of us and we would have all been buried live', if they don't give it the emotional impact that it deserves i am going to be PISSED. every single one of those characters loved him - he was like a little brother to angela, hodgins was his best friend and roommate, and he obviously meant so much to brennan. oh my god, the scene where she leans her forehead against his just broke me in two.

but oh no, they couldnt leave well enough alone right there. because then came the house finale, during which i basically sobbed my eyes out for a solid hour. OH MY GOD. i initially had reservations about the general theme of both 'houses head' and 'wilsons heart', simply because we've already had a season finale that relied heavily on house's hallucinations. but this one? oh WOW. just WOW. AMBERRRRRRR, i will miss you so much!! its funny, i really disliked her at first. but now i LOVE her, and it just kills me that we wont get to see her anymore. and poor WILSON! she was absolutely perfect for him in every way. when he comes home and finds the note on the bed? GUH. color me broken.

i am SO glad that i decided to wait and download the how i met your mother finale, because it was EXACTLY what i needed after that emotional overhaul. BARNEY STINSON IS IN LOVE WITH ROBIN SCHERBATSKY, IT'S OFFICIAL. carter bays, im sorry i ever began to doubt you. never again! i look forward to oodles of awesome fic this summer - its kind of ridiculous how 99% of all barney/robin fic is of such high quality. but i cant wait to see more of it!

lol and SPEAKING of ripping my heart out.....i'm re-downloading doctor who, from the beginning. oh, ROSE. oh, NINE! i havent seen the final few torchwood episodes either, and ive heard their quite a doozy as well. so i'll have something to keep me occupied on the plane ride to florida - i just bought a laptop, because there would be NO way to transport my desktop on a plane without it getting destroyed. so YAY, ability to surf the internet while waiting to board, watch my downloads on the plane, and write fic when i get to the hotel! so very very cool. ive never had one of these before! its even got a bigger hard drive than my computer, so no more worrying about disk space w/ my video files! its just that transferring them is a pain in the ass.

OK, i should REALLY be packing. i can feel my mother glaring at me even from downstairs.

....i hope you're not lactose intolerant, because the next word is.....

how i met your mother. WOW.

i just love this show more and more with every episode that i watch. i LOVE the schizophrenic storytelling style, not only because it makes it more interesting than the average linearally-plotted show, but also because i think it really mirrors real people's storytelling styles. it makes me laugh and think of my parents - my dad tells stories completely out of order, and my mom prefaces with like fifteen years worth of unneccesary backstory. i like that it's romantic, and all about destiny and fate and finding THE ONE. because i very much believe that that concept exists. and then i get my SUPER AWESOME BARNEY/ROBIN SIDE COUPLE, because seriously? YES.

um, 'sandcastles in the sand'? if you haven't seen it yet, stop reading here.

only three words to say: OH MY GOD. i am still in absolute shock that IT ACTUALLY HAPPENED!!!! i am SO excited to see where it goes, because i feel like they have ALOT of potential.

my two cents on the matter:

i think they're going to stay together. it wont be easy, because theyre both so stubborn and headstrong, and i know they're definitely not going to get married and do the whole white-picket-fences thing (i can't even imagine them LIVING TOGETHER). but i think they are such a perfect match. just the ease of their interaction, how robin often laughs at his jokes even when the others shake their heads in disgust.

i think that its ROBIN that's truly commitment-phobic. i think barney talks a big game, but at the end of the day i think that if he found the right woman, he'd be willing to make it work. i mean look at the evidence. he flew all the way to san francisco to convince lily that marshall needed her. he MARRIED THEM HIMSELF, and got teared up. he has spoken several times about how they belong together. and throughout the robin/ted relationship, he kept trying to get them to see the light. he KNEW that they wouldn't work, just like they knew it deep down, too - they just had different views on all of the most important issues. i think that barney might initially freak out if love found him, but i think he'd be open to the idea.

LE...GEN...wait for it...

two new obsessions as of late: 'csi: ny' and 'how i met your mother'.

there was this metaphor that i read one time on livejournal about 'law and order: criminal intent' and 'law and order: special victims unit'. and about how ci is the steady boyfriend - logical, rational, mature, faithful. and you know that you SHOULD be all into ci, but svu is the total bad boy and even though he's a bit of an ass and kind of dumb, you can't help yourself because hes just so freaking HOT.

and dudes? that is so totally 'csi vegas' and 'csi: ny'. ny is logical and well-plotted, but vegas is just SO insane that you HAVE to love it.

but seriously, ny? AWESOME. it's darker, more adult (and has AWESOME guest stars, OMG, tj thyne and ted raimi!!!) and just all around more structurally sound than vegas' sometimes teetering (....wait for it....) house of cards. sorry, that was bad.

couples! because this is me we're talking about and i am mentally incapable of watching a television show without a couple to root for. well, from day one it was all about mac and stella. i had heard alot about stella and flack, and honestly went into this not knowing if i could take gary sinise seriously and not picture him doing lieutenant dan's crazy eyes from 'forest gump', but nonetheless i ended up a hardcore smacked 'shipper. they have such history and mutual trust, it's impossible to ignore that. (and i am completely reformed on the issue of gary sinise, mac taylor is SUCH a f*cking badass. HOT.)

also, danny/lindsay. OBVIOUSLY. and i mean speaking of HOT? DANNY MESSER. oh, WOW. there are just NO words to fully capture carmine giovinazzo's undeniable sex appeal. GUHHHHHHH. and holy hell could they MAKE his shirts any tighter?! oh, to be the csiny wardrobe mistress....

SORRY. i digress. danny/lindsay. im pissed about whats going on right now, though my opinions on the matter are significantly different than that of the majority of the fandom so i keep them to myself. but up to 'child's play'? PERFECTION. they had such a logical progression, and the actors have such great chemistry. i just love danny the big player, and here comes this little country girl and knocks him flat on the ass.

minor couples that i enjoy: s1 stella/hawkes, i think he had a MAJOR crush on her. i have something stewing fanfic-wise about how things changed between them once he left the me's office. flack/angell, because flack is AWESOME and i love emanuelle vaugier. and my old-school doomed OTP, aiden/flack. WOW. those two would have been AWESOME. aw man i miss aiden so much. i initially disliked her alot, but she grew on me. and she and danny were such adorable best friends. i have my own theories as to them as a romantic couple, but thats something else im saving for fic.

'how i met your mother'. its an above-average sitcom - not one of the best of all time, but what makes up for it? wait for it....my super-awesome otp that most people would call me crazy for. come on, who's surprised? anyway. it is?

barney and robin.

LEGENDARY.

neil patrick harris saves that show, no doubt. i really have no interest in marshall, lily, or ted. i feel sorry for alyson hannigan, i feel like her character is one of the most superfluous, and as much as i love her, i still find lily boring.

yeah, that is all. im just biding my time finishing the episodes before i can start making music videos. yay! except that im running out of room on my computer....lol. damn my television obsession.

"Secret Diary of a Call Girl" seems to have been absolutely tailor-made for Billie Piper. It gets her VERY far-removed from her much-beloved Rose character, and allows her true acting talent to shine. Not only is she powerfully, efortlessly sexy, but she has AMAZING comedic timing; neither of which were really allowed to shine through on "Doctor Who".

As for the show itself, it really manages to take the sex industry to the next level and go beyond the stereotypical cautionary tales that other shows have attempted. It puts humanity into the industry, focuses on the people rather than the trade itself, and explains the motives behind the actions. What does the show lose points for? The Ben/Hannah arc. The level of chemistry between the actors is absolutely PHENOMENAL, and you truly believe that they've been best friends for life. But their romance is so contrived and predictable. The acting MOSTLY makes up for it, but it's still kind of a let-down. Also, for only being 8 episodes in a season! Come on, bring it on!

Friends have been urging me to get into FNL since the day it started. Well, when the series 2 premiere got put up early, I was bored one day and figured...what the hell? I'll give it a shot. It's not like I have to worry about being spoiled, seeing as how I'm inundated with info about each episode as soon as it airs.

First off, it was horribly rushed. We get about thirty seconds to get used to the idea of Mrs. Coach looking ready to pop, and the awkwardness that it's causing Julie (who, by the way, is the worst. lifeguard. EVER. I'm sorry, but the former lifeguard inside of me cringed as she leaps down out of her chair without warning to lecture her mother. Sorry kid, I meant to save you from drowning...but I was too busy trying to save my social life.) Then all of the sudden, BAM! The baby's born. Um.....ok. They just blew past alot of potentially good material right there.

Julie all of the sudden being into this other guy was so out of left field. I don't think that the writers have fully decided whether they want her to be the sweet girl-next-door, or the sarcastic been-there-done-that type. And going into the second season, that's kind of the stuff that you should have a handle on by now. The general concept of what they wanted to do with her interest in another guy - have it be about wanting more in life and being scared of too much, too fast with Matt - works on paper, but Julie's tearful confession in the car was badly-written, full of horrible cliches and even worse acting. And again, it was so RUSHED. They tried to squeeze way too much into one episode.

Also? The sex talk between her and her mother makes me want to give her a good ol' smack.

Coach....what happened to Eric Taylor the family man? His wife has just popped out a kid and he's leaving town without a fight? Time to man up, put your foot down, and stay where you belong. I highly doubt that most any profession is going to argue with the fact that you have a newborn at homw. But it's just the fact that he sighs and goes along with it that bothers me the most.

And then, of course, there's the final scene. *Headdesk*. Let's ignore, for a moment, the ludicrous horror movie cliche of dumping the body even though it was clearly an accident and self-defense. But the direction that this sends the show is just....well, it's different, I suppose. But I highly doubt that it's what the creators originally intended. The show is about emotion and triumph over adversity and everyday struggles - even a non-fan such as myself can appreciate that. But this idea of spending every episode in "suspense" of 'OMG when will they find out?!' is just cheap thrills.

What does the episode get points for? Cinematography, as always. Tyra being completely awesome, as always. Landry being so painfully realistic in his less-than-smooth moves. Julie calling her dad out on his absentee parenting as of late. Connie Britton. Some hot shirtless guys in the pool.....and really, that's about it.

Sorry, FNL. You may appeal to the inner pre-teen in some of us, but I remain unimpressed.

I understand what the writers were trying to go for, but there's just no way that this plot can fit into an hour-long episode. We're told that about a week has passed since the beginning of the episode to the end, and that's alot of ground to cover to begin with. But even given a full week, it's so ridiculously unbelievable that Katie would come to terms with her situation and be ready to go off on her own. Diane's reasoning for leaving left a little to be desired, and it seemed silly that Jack initially was so against John's decision to commit suicide, considering his own situation. Nevertheless, there were some highlights. Owen and Diane had fantastic chemistry, and his bumbling attempt to say "I love you" was particularly endearing. The scene of John dying with Jack sitting beside him holding his hand was very moving. And, of course, poor Gwen giving the sex talk. They really need to have Eve Myles doing more comedy, because her expressions are priceless.

Had this been stretched out over a few episodes, I think that it would have had alot more emotional impact, but squeezed into a single episode it just became disjointed, muddled, and generally disappointing.

WOAH.

Why is it that I always choose to watch the scary episodes at 2, 3 in the morning? From the moment this episode started, I was getting the chills. I've seen others who have said that they didn't understand why the Torchwood team was so scared, but to me the reason this episode worked was because with monsters and aliens, there's a level of distance; they are, at the end of the day, very ALIEN. It's the familiar that's much more terrifying. The opening sequence was scary to me as a viewer because unlike, say, a cyberwoman being eaten alive by a pterodactyl, it's something that could easily happen to me tomorrow.

From then on, the episode just had me, and I was spooked the entire time. Does it rely on horror-movie cliches? Yes, certainly. But the writers manage to take the experience the characters went through and have it affect each and every one of them, which is what makes it worth watching. I liken this episode alot to Doctor Who's "Blink", in that both were able to take horror to the next level by combining it with what the individual shows do best; for Doctor Who, it's the fascinating twists of that complex "ball of wibbley-wobbly, timey-wimey stuff". And for Torchwood, it's relationships.

Jack is used to being in control. It's when he's vulnerable that he's the most interesting as a character, and this episode was no exception. His team is being slowly picked off, one by one, and he's helpless to stop it. He must instead trust them to find their own way out. Jack's actions in this episode were alot about having faith in his team; having faith that they can survive, and having faith in their actions. Though he disagrees, he lets Gwen go off while still injured, and lets her interrogate the villager. He relinquishes control for the sake of others.

Tosh and Ianto were an interesting choice for a pair to be stuck together, but it ends up working nicely because both are the ones that are usually doing the "safe" stuff; Ianto brings the food and drink, and cleans up the messes, while Tosh sits behind a computer monitoring surveillance videos. But suddenly they're thrown into this terrifying, life-or-death situation, all alone, and are expected to find a way out of it. Tosh, I think, learns alot about herself in that she nearly manages to escape. Meanwhile Ianto truly learns what it is that Jack and his team do every day, and though he barely made it out alive, he chooses to stay.

And, of course, the biggest developments come for Gwen and Owen. Despite hearing that they were a major couple in the series, I was only half-heartedly watching their moments, even though I LOVE characters that snark at each other. To me, it was mostly lust. And I don't think that either of them expected it to be anything more either. But in the midst of all of the danger, they're forced to see each other as more. Gwen sees the tender side of Owen, as opposed to the bit of a bastard he usually is to her. And Gwen has spent alot of time up until this point being vulnerable as she adjusts to this brand-new life, but now he gets to see her display bravery in the face of danger. Their three main scenes in this episode (in the forest, on the "operating table", and in owen's bedroom) really cemented them for me as a couple to keep an eye out on, because there is undeniably something there between them, and I now find myself desperately curious to see what the future holds for them.

.........WOW.

Between the combination of this episode's awesomeness and the previews for next episode, I did a quite literal flail. Alone in my room at 5 am. Note to potential viewers: DO NOT watch this episode in the dark during a particularly bad thunderstorm!! I learned this the hard way.

Another reviewer was spot-on when (s)he mentioned that this episode tosses aside the child's notion of hiding under the bedcovers and "if I can't see them they can't see me". I'm frightened to ever look a statue ever again.

This episode was just everything that you could possibly want in an episode of Doctor Who. You've got a fantastically complicated plot, great dialogue, the Doctor being all adorable with his "wibbley-wobbly timey-wimey stuff", superb acting, CREEEEEEEEEPY villains, a few subtle jabs at internet geekdom, and the completely random but oh-so-awesome bows and arrows. I can't BELIEVE that I, of all people, am saying this, but this actually might be my favorite episode ever....despite the fact that there was no Rose. Ok, so I'm a bit biased, so sue me. Last series' "Love and Monsters" was an interesting exploration into how the Doctor affects other peoples' lives, sometimes completely unintentionally. I understand what they were trying to do, but I started to get bored and wished the Doctor would come on-screen and entertain me. With this episode, I was probably halfway through before I realized that we had barely seen any of him and I didn't even care, the plot was so compelling.
