My ER Home
It was a certain blessing on Thursday night, as we saw Gloria Reuben, as former Cook County PA Jeanie Boulet, walk back into the doors of the ER the way she did. You could almost hear bells ring, as some of the re-occuring regulars from seasons 1 to present recognized her so well, and fondly. Seeing her again, now, years after she was happily written off with a new husband and a child she adopted, has been very emotional indeed. A long time fan of the show since the very first episode aired, when it aired, I was pleased. Obviously, not all reunions are gold, and this reason for the always calm and collect Boulet to walk through the doors of County was anything but social. Her son, whom she adopted in the early days of the 6th season, was HIV, now, he has hit his head, and more trouble awaits. Before any real fear can emerge, I am quite sure that long standing fans as myself, could surely appreciate hearing the scoop on characters long since gone. Primarily, Doug and Carol, the doctor and nurse in love. We all know we wanted to hear about them again one day, and keeping true to the original characters, it was long time regular Yvette Freeman as her signature character Nurse Haleh Adams, who told both Boulet and the fans how the couple were, and what they were up to. Gosh, it has been a long time, and keeping in the moment of what's happening with the present, one tends to forget how quickly time goes by. I notice this all the time, but reminders such as Jeanie Boulet are a great deal more to telling me how long I've stuck with this show in every season beginning with One. I suppose seeing one of my favorite characters again was also, in a way, unhealthy. It certainly reminded me of the times long since gone, and I certainly began to miss those early days in the shows past, when I was on the edge of my seat, with glee and intrigue, wondering what would happen next. Such times as the 2 hour pilot, airing September 1994 come to mind. The character of Jeanie Boulet was never around until the later parts of the first season but it nonetheless got my memory ticking. I remember the suspense, the power, the emotion, and the bowl of popcorn I made for the occasion. I had been waiting for the show to start for weeks, and it never let me down once it started, not for eight whole seasons. Now, so many years later, I still watch, having evolved with the show and it's newer characters. for me, obviously, those earlier times will always mean more, but the show is still quite impressive, even for 13 1/2 seasons. I suppose I'm even more so just relieved that the writers were careful in depicting the Jeanie Boulet story line. Much of the writing is fairly poor in condition as compared to the earlier seasons, and the characters, minus Luka and Abby are childish and immature. They name call, and goof around, acting nothing professional like the original cast members did. With all that, I was worried about the writers bringing back an old favorite of mine with these revelations. I'm only happy that the return was wonderfully done, and very emotional. A while ago, I noted that Jeanie was exactly who I wanted to see return, and now I have. I guess, in watching Television, we sometimes get what we want.

Gloria Reuben returns to ER?
I just read on tvguide.com that former ER star Gloria Reuben will return to the show for an appearance this season! If this is true I have both joy and concern. The joy is w/ out hesitance. I have missed my favorites for some time. I cannot begin to stress just how much I loved the show upon it's original premiere a ways back in the 1990's I adored every character to the fullest, and Jeanie Boulet was one of my absolute favs. next to Mark and Carol. My heart flutters with delight at the very thought of seeing Boulet once more, for she left on an odd note, many many seasons back. The concern, however, may very well outdo the joy in some areas. The show is nothing like it once was, and I for one have seen it rot over the past season to the lowest point yet, and I don't want to see one of my all time favorite landmark characters taking part on the uselessness of what the series has become these days. The show is still quite good, but I have to admitt that I'm always let down by each passing episode except when it involves Abby. Being the longest running character know, she is the most grounded, and the only interesting character these days. The most recent episode showed Morris to actually have some depth, and total seriousness in him. Well wow! Why haven't we seen this much before. It's quite late in the game for him, but I suppose better late than never. Pratt's a pretty good ting in the show now. He's the longest running next to Abby, having jopined at the tail end of the tragic 8th season. I remember dispising his character once. He's actually much improved now, and carries his own rather well. Still, one other question remains, are ANY of these characters worthy to work alongside the all wonderful Jeanie Boulet...except Abby that is? I have to ask. I hope I'm not the only one here. It's not just Boulet, it's the same thing I would ask were the returning guests to be Clooney and Margulies as well. I was a fan of the originalshow...so to speak. With time, this show has certainly slowed down, and has not been what it once was for quite some time.
Still, this news of Jeanie Boulet is such a gass that I find myself awaiting more from it...and soon, oh so soon!Cheers!

Real Time/ MEN IN TREES
Well, I couldn't agree more witrh Bill Mahar on his show. He speaks the truth in volumes beyond words and volume. Tonight, the episode left me cheering for the writer, his name escapes me, and JOy Bahar from "The View", both of which, could see the republican, name I do not care for, as the seventh grade bully he was. I will certainly watch more of Bill Mahar after this.
As for the prime time dial, "Men In Trees" season 2 premiered tonight. I still quite livid that it suffered the same effect as "Boston Legal" three years ago. It has a success ful run before it's switched time slots and night schedules, and is then totally removed from the weekly lione-up 5 episodes short of it's season one finale. Now, we're stuck watching it during a fridsy night time slot. It's quite a good show, and I look forward to seeing many seasons after this, but damn ABC for messing it's original format up.

ER/BL openings
Well, the ERseason 14 opener was much so what it should have been, and I'm greatful for that. Being a constant fan for it's entire run, I'd seen some pretty lame times with the show in the past few years, but nothing was a lame as the 13th season. I'm happy to say that it can still deliver a good, interesting episode every once in a while. It will never be the first 8 seasons, but I won't ever expect it to be. Even so, the 9th season managed to keep itself well up to speed with the preceeding years before the 10th season screwed up. Oh well, it's just good fan fun for holding on to now. Other television shows can take precedence. Boston Legalhas had quite a big turn up this season, with new cast members walking on. I was a little concerned at first. i was accostomed to Andea Bowen by the end of the 2nd season, and we all know it was the happiest day of the show when those two little pop-tarts from the season two opener dissapeared, even w/ out explanation, I was happy to see them go. That said, all was fine in Catzenstein while some new faces showed up in season three. I wasn't so accepting at first. I don't understand why David E. Kelley changes the cast every dang season! There's nothing too wrong with it, when the cast is good, and above the age of 35, but still. Some of the characters are acting quite out of character, and that's a little distracting. I want to see more of the loose fun in James Spaders' Alan Shore. He was getting a bit intense in the second episode, and the character of Brad Chase, as portrayed by Mark Valley, is opposing the firm of ehihch he was just employed last season, Poole, Shmidt, and Crane. What's going on? I won't fear too much, It's a waste of good energy. As for other shows this season, I was keen to try out the new FOX show K-Ville, but after a pretty impressive pilot, I was let down heavily by the 2nd episode. I haven't watched it since. Something I would love to check out some time would be the new vampire show Moonlight,or whatever it's called. Oh well, the best in this season is yet to come anyway. Helen Slaterhas filmed 2episodes of Smallvillethis season, and I am psyched about this! It's one of the first major things this lovely actress has done in years, so I will be watching more for that as the time continues to approach.Cheers-

Beauty & The Beast memories...
You'd never know it, but I have a soft spot for that once wonderful show that ran on CBS long ago. The one about Catherine Chandler, Assistant DA, and her poetic cat-man with whom she loved a lifetime, before her time. Yes, Beauty & The Beastis the show I speak of. Being an admirer of Linda Hamilton, it's hardly suprising, no? Well, it was a great show, at first. I must stress that the demise of Hamiltons' Catherine was sick! I have never enjoyed the fact that the character was kiddnapped, and taken hostage for 9 months, until she gave birth to a child that was of both she and Vincent, the Beast. Once this happened, her captor had her killed. I really don't know all the details, as I never saw the episode. I was not in the know of the program by the time the dreadful season 3 opener aired. I heard Linda Hamilton was not to be around for the third year, so I split. I never knew about the demise of her character until years later.Talk about what you were better off not knowing...
Anyhow, the first two seasons are availible on DVD now, and I own them both, proudly.

Paul Shenar Avg Score: 10.00 Total Ratings: 1 Total Reviews: 1 |
With a deep thuderous voice, intense eyes, a dark complexion, and a strong presence in performance, Paul Shenar could easily make an instant impression by simply walking onto the camera, and emphasizing his character. As one of the most respected stage actors in America, beginning in the early 1960's it's no wonder why this talented performer achieved fame in some of the most compelling roles seen on both film and television. The only question one could possibly ask, is why he didn't achieve more of a film status earlier in his career. Obviously, a stage performer never let's down on the real definition of acting. Why should Mr. Shenar have? He began his screen career in television roles, and quickly made his way onto the big screen. It should be said that his less intense roles, are also something to see. His main impression was that of a villain, as his presence was strong and often intimidating. However, some of his roles as a nicer, more down to earth man, were also very enjoyable indeed. In "The Big Blue", his last feature, he plays a scientist. His role is subtle and genuine, and he is very warm and inviting. It's easy to identify his harder characters, but also, he could deliver sympathetic roles too. he was a master at the craft, one who left us far too soon, and he will be missed.

ER Dying is Easy... Avg Score: 8.61 Total Ratings: 137 Total Reviews: 14 Users who agree: 3 Users who disagree: 1 |
Lately, the season of the ER has been somewhat less than amusing. After a terrific season 13 opener, the epsiodes were becoming too much like all other shows, and dealing with more of the doctors personal lives, than how they were treating the patients. I am obliged to say that this episode was more along the traditional way of Er, as the staff must treat a dying stand up comedian who is desperate to make his last performance a good one. He knows he will not make this performance, so he brings down the ER with laughs while charming Abby, Sam, Morris, and Neela. At the end of the episode, we final had a personal moment shared between Luka and Abby about their future together, thus ending the episode. That's the kind of episode that I like to see from this show. This certainly restored my faith in the rest of this season. One thing I do feel should be altere a little, was the kidney transplant the Neela worked on. We should have seen more of Neela perofrming the surgery. However, the aftermath of the trashplant, and how Neela was doing favors for her patient, was good enough, and more like "old school" ER. This was a good episode.

ER Ground Zero Avg Score: 8.46 Total Ratings: 46 Total Reviews: 4 Users who agree: 1 |
After many harsh confrontations with the belligerant family of a boy who died on the table, Dr. Mark Green is free of dodging the lawsuits from the Law kin. Although he begins his day chipper and eager, his troubles aren't over yet. He first ecounters a man, pretending to be a patient, but who really wants more money from him for the Law family. This brings his day to a screeching halt. Soon enough, he begins to realize a problem about himself, and an inner anger that is coming out at both co-workers and patients alike. His lesson is not an easy one to admitt to, but with the help of his friends, he can recover from his attack, and the after-affect it has one him.
Nurse Del Amico is not the most loaded woman, and she hates trying to impress people, and thusly, learning about Carters family money, she is quite irritated by it. Carole Hathaway is the only one who has a good day, as her dreams are met with the 75 thousand dollar loan from Carters grandmother to start a free care clinic in the ER. Meanwhile, Doug faces the death of his father, and Jeanie is fired. The episode is very entrancing, first off, because we see a darker side of Mark Greene that has not been so visible previously, and the results are chilling. Doug and Carol are great together, and it's nice to see them like this, even though, by now, we can believe the future. Something else I really liked was the story about Kerry, learning the harsh truth behind the hospitol deficit, and her decision to fire Jeanie Boulet. Such drama, is the stuff of ER. Such a great installment.

ER Scoop and Run Avg Score: 8.65 Total Ratings: 144 Total Reviews: 23 Users who agree: 1 |
I will say, though, that this episode, while having a great amount of promise, did not live up to what it could have been. I don't even think I came to liking it too much after I finally concluded my thoughts on the matter. It's not as if there was something too wrong with it, it had the great characters, and the good set-ups and everything like that, but it was not the most exciting think it could have been. I'll say that it was for sure, an interesting episode, but it had a very low suspence rate. It could have done a lot with the dangling bus situation, and it only went to the minimum of it. This episode could have been another "Hell & High Water" (ER season 2 ep) but it lacked the constant tensity and turbulance. There should have been more going on at the crash site...I think. We could have seen more danger and death. Oh well, they can't all be the best.

ER The Show Must Go On Avg Score: 8.65 Total Ratings: 137 Total Reviews: 20 |
I guess it wasn't as traumatic as seeing Dr. Mark Greene go. Carter is certainly still alive and doing well on the show even now, snce Noah Wylie had a few good guest appearances last season. Still, it's quite a shame that we have none of the original 6 doctors on the show anymore. It would really be something to see Doug and Carol again...yeah, like that would happen! This episode was pretty touching in it's own right. John Carter walks out of County General, remembering all the people he both knew, and loved, and leaving his memory and his magic touch to the rest of the doctors that still work today....
