12 Random facts

Hello all

I've been on this site for quite a while now, though for some reason I haven't gotten around to blogging before this. So if anyone's interested, here are some random facts.

1. I'm a 20 year old female college student. I will be a junior this fall. Anthropology major, but strongly considering double majoring in criminal justice.

2. I am a KIRA supporter (I guess the background on my page is a hint).

3. I was born in the US, but spent most of my life in Central America, so I'm bilingual (English and Spanish).

4. I am Otaku and proud of it.

5. My top 5 anime series (I've seen a lot but if I had to choose among them):
-Rurouni Kenshin
-Fullmetal Alchemist
-Naruto
-Inuyasha
-Death Note

6. My favorite anime films:
-Millennium Actress
-Inuyasha 3: Swords of an Honorable Ruler
-Spirited Away
-Kakurenbo: Hide and Seek

7. Favorite non-anime TV shows:
-American Dreams
-House
-Supernatural
-Law & Order: SVU
-Dexter (possibly one of the best and original shows ever made) -I enjoy watching crime shows, like Forensic Files, Cold Case Files, you get the idea.

8. Some sports I like: Kendo (I did pick it up from an anime series), badminton, boxing, rock climbing.

9. I am a gamer girl, I love RPG's most of all, I dislike sports genre video games (I think they're boring). My younger brother and I have been what we call 'Nintendo loyalists', it's always been our main game system. Right now we have a Gamecube and a Wii (we started out with the old Nintendo NES, then an N64). Favorite video games to play:
-The Godfather: Blackhand Edition
-Golden Sun (best GBA game ever!)
-Legend of Zelda series (Twilight Princess and Ocarina of Time)
-Tales of Symphonia
-Soul Calibur series
-Fire Emblem: Radiant Dawn

10. My favorite drink is caffeine-free Coke.

11. I shop at Hot Topic whenever possible (though my mom hates it).

12. My favorite season is winter. I never had snow (or snow days!!!)growing up, I was in the tropics. I want to live somewhere with a long winter in the future.

Possibly the best episode of season 9. The episode begins with a fast-food manager who, thinking he is assisting police, strip searches an employee. Trying to find the supposed detective who gave the orders, the SVU team finally lands on an engineer (played by Robin Williams). Found not guilty at trial, he goes on to stir up a "No Sheep" movement, urging the questioning of authority (Among the scenes I will never forget include Munch partaking in the mass pillow fight).

However, the team stumbles upon evidence that he may have killed the doctor who, by refusing to perform a c-section, caused the death of his wife and newborn son. A perfect ending as well.

For the first time in a while I felt like I was watching the SVU that made me a fan of the series in the first place.

The episode deals with a man who witnesses a crime. and is faced with the repercussions of being a "snitch." Further problems arise when he turns out to be a polygamist with three wives.

The plotline was really entertaining, with the classic last-minute twists that make the show worthwhile. A lot of strong acting and outcomes of a controversial issue.

Hopefully SVU will keep up the good work and have later episodes in the mold of this one.

What is going on here?

The first part of the episode was pretty generic and has been done before (boy found wandering on the street in blood, nanny's dead, mom has been sleeping around with boyfriend, her husband isn't the boy's father, losts of daddy angst between him and Elliot, finally the husband shoots the unfaithful wife in the head). The whole point of the fisrt half seems intended to give Elliot the reason to ask Cathy if its really his kid.

The next half of the show was somewhat eventful but somehow predictable and a bit overdramatic. In my opinion the worst episode of the season, I just wish I hadn't chosen to ask my roomate to watch this particular episode with me (trying to make her a fan of the series). Way to lose a potential fan, guys.

What happened to the real SVU?!

Having grown up hearing the "Disney" versions of all the tales of the Grimm brothers and only recently reading the real versions, this episode proved to be extremely enjoyable. The Three Little Pigs, Hansel and Gretel, Cinderella and Red Riding Hood were played out in a manner befitting their orgins.
A comatose girl - put into that state by her stepmother- uleashes her anger on random individuals through the Grimm stories her doctor father tells her each day. The Winchester boys must convince her father of the truth and that he needs to let her trapped spirit pass on.
The connection between the events in the episodes in the stories was hard to see at first, but was brilliant once the allusions were established.

A welcome break from the episodes that preceded it, this episode brought focus back to the plot and main characters. Aang and Zuko are given valuable information regairding their own pasts that will be pivotal in their near futures.

Aang is visited by Avatar Roku once again and learns his origins, trials and demise in his former life.

Zuko is left a mysterious message and soon learns a previously unknown dark secret of his family history through the records and from (finally) uncle Iroh.

This epsiode remineded me exactly why I am a fan of Avatar, something I really needed after the previous episode.
