Busy busy!

I just realized I have been on this website for over 2 years now. Wow. I graduated from college, I've been at my new job for over four weeks, and I'm at my new apartment with my cat!  Life is good.  Busy, but good.  Sadly there hasn't been much time for TV.  But I splurged and got the DirecTV service with DVR, so I can watch what I want when I want.  I've been watching the new episodes of the 4400 and the Closer.  Monk and Psych start up again in a couple of weeks, I think.  Fun times.

Almost a College Graduate!

Last time I updated, I was 44 days away from graduation.  Now I'm 4 days away.  I'm still in denial about it, lol.

I'm excited about the Bones season finale tonight.  And the Idol results.  I really hope Blake goes home.  He's not bad, but compared to Melinda and Jordin... well, he can't compare!  I hope Melinda wins, but I wouldn't mind if Jordin took the crown.

Also, Lost is on tonight... crazy stuff on that show, I'll tell you!

Thoughts.

I can't believe graduation is 44 days away. I'm excited, but a little nervous too. In order to watch my shows when I get my own apartment, I'll be the one paying for cable. Who knew it was so expensive?

Oh well.. welcome to the real world, huh?

On to my shows... 24, Lost, BSG, Prison Break: some crazy stuff is going on! Yikes! And I can't believe I have to wait until 2008 for new episodes of BSG. And I'm not sure when PB is coming back... hopefully this fall.

American Idol: Sanjaya needs to go. Melinda needs to win. People need to stop booing when Simon talks because he's right on the money 99% of the time.

That's all for now.

In the middle of J-term...

Here at Hollins we have a January Term, AKA J-term or Short Term, where students can either take an interesting class not usually offered (I took Contract Bridge and Experimental Fiction in my freshman and sophomore years, respectively), do an independent study, go on a trip, do an internship, or work on their senior thesis.

Well, this year, I'm doing my thesis. I'm writing a screenplay. It's a year-long honors thesis, actually, so I've been working on it since the fall, and the plan is to finish it before I graduate (which I will, but it's hard to believe it's only four months away!)

Anyway, the only commitments I have are thesis meetings on Tuesday mornings and work in the afternoons. So I have a lot of free time... which is supposed to be work on my thesis, but I'm such a procrastinator, lol, so I like to goof off as well.

I've watched a bit of TV during the day, like Reba reruns on Lifetime or the amusing stuff they play on VH1. They had a "America's Top Model" marathon last week, so I watched that a little.

I'm excited about shows coming back, though. 24 season six starts this Sunday, and then the new season of American Idol starts Tuesday. Monk, Psych, Battlestar Galactica, and Prison Break all start up again this month as well, and then Lost comes back February 7th. I have to make sure to get thesis work done before my shows come on

End of semester... already?

I can't believe there's this week, and then next week, and then no more fall semester! I'm excited to go home for Christmas break and to not worry about school until January... but at the same time, I have so much work to do between now and next weekend, I'm afraid I'm going to go crazy!

Concerning TV... I got caught up on House when I was home for Thanksgiving. I don't like the Tritter guy. That actor annoys me anyway, when he chews his gum and his raspy voice. Ugh. Get rid of him. I missed this week's episode, so I don't know if he's out of the picture yet. But yeah...

I've been watching Prison Break and Lost faithfully, although Lost ended for the year a few weeks ago and PB had its fall finale this week. Both were cliffhangers that had me at the edge of my seat... although I like PB better than Lost. Lost seems to drag sometimes. Oh well, I'll still watch Lost anyway.

I'm happy that PB is coming back earlier than originally planned - January 22nd (which is also when 24 starts its 6th season! Yay I can't wait!)

Alright enough of my update. Time to get some work done.

I was really excited about the Simpsons starting up again, so I made sure to tune in on Sunday night to watch. But for some reason, the episode didn't seem as good as ones from even the more recent seasons. I've heard of many fans complain that its not as good as it used to be, but I wasn't one of them. While I've never been able to watch it regularly, I have seen a few episodes from last season and the season before, and it still had its edge.

But this episode disappointed me. As I mentioned in the summary, it had its moments (for example, when the car crashed into a baking soda truck, then a vinegar truck crashed into it, and then a TNT truck crashed into all of them).

But Bart seemed out of character (not by taking the role of mobster, but by going after Krusty... I thought he was Bart's hero? Hasn't he helped Krusty out a lot over the years?)

And then Homer was barely in the episode, and one of the only times we see him, he's stupid. Well, I know he's supposed to be stupid, but it seemed stupid even for Homer (I'm talking about the "dirtnap" reference when he imagined what a "dirtnap" was). While it was slightly funny, it seemed out of place.

If I'm not busy with homework next Sunday night, I'll tune into Fox at 8pm to watch the new episode. But I really hope that the season premiere wasn't a sign of what's to come the rest of the season, or else I'll become one of those disgruntled fans who believe the Simpsons has passed its prime.

One Friday night I turned to Sci Fi, which was playing old Stargate episodes, and this was the one that was on. Time loops are always fun!

I loved how Jack and Teal'c took their predicament and had some fun... playing golf into the Stargate, doing pottery, juggling, Teal'c slamming the guy who kept slamming the door on him, etc... and I CHEERED when Jack resigned right before the loop went again and he kissed Carter :)

A very good episode, and very dramatic at the end when Jack pleaded with Malachi to stop the time loop machine, because he could relate with losing someone. Very emotional, very good performance by Richard Dean Anderson.

Overall, a great episode!

I classified this as an average episode because it was good, but not one of the best of the series. The season premiere was a lot more exciting. But, I liked how they explored the friendship/possible relationship between Isabelle and Shawn. The ending, while expected, makes me want to find out what will happen next week... like if Richard finds out what his baby-who-looks-like-she's-twenty has been doing.

The crazy scientist guy (his name escapes me) who's injecting himself with promicin... kinda scary. I knew he'd start showing some abilities, and I know he's the "father of the 4400" or whatever... but I'm still worried about what he's doing.

As I said in my summary, concerning the main plot, I knew what the deal was in the first few seconds. I think I may have even figured it out before the episode actually started, when they were showing the "previously" clips. But even though I figured out that it was a shapeshifter kind of 4400, I still wondered how Tom was going to get the guy and who would believe him.

I have enjoyed 7th Heaven, on and off, through the years. Mainly I've watched reruns, and I've missed the more recent episodes, but I wanted to be able to see the finale. I was a little confused because I had never seen Haylie Duff's character before, but she arrived at the end of the episode so it wasn't that bad. Anyway, while I thought it made for a nice ending of the show - having Matt there, and even Mary (although she was only in a vision and on the other end of the line with Carlos), it was too over the top. THREE siblings having twins? And at around the same time? Even just two siblings having twins is rare, but three? Puh-leaze. While it makes for a cute and interesting ending (six kids from them, and then maybe Haylie Duff's character's baby is Simon's makes for another generation of SEVEN, not including Lucy's baby of course). And at first I thought Simon and Rose got married, but then we find out they didn't. It was an interesting twist, and I'm glad they didn't get married (I haven't seen Rose much but the few times I've seen her, I didn't like her). And another quibble - why couldn't Mary actually be shown with the family (not including the vision where she didn't know what a globe was - which was funny)? It seemed like she should've been there. At the end she talks about being at graduation, so they will all be together the next day, but it seemed weird that she wasn't at the wedding. Did something happen between her and the family to cause a rift that I missed in the more recent episodes? Perhaps that would explain it. Anyway, enjoyable episode, but very unrealistic.

Buffy the Vampire Slayer
Avg Score: 9.18    Total Ratings: 12009    Total Reviews: 857
I started watching Buffy in high school - there were reruns on FX and one day after school my mom had it on. So we watched, and I got hooked. Last year I finally got the seventh and final season on DVD to complete my collection, and I watched the entire show from "Welcome to the Hellmouth" to "Chosen." It's got comedy, drama, romance, angst, etc. One of my favorite episodes is season 6's "Once More With Feeling," the musical episode. Joss Whedon the creator of the show is a genius and made an awesome show. While I wish the show still had new episodes, it had a great run. And the show in a way is still alive. People like me write fanfiction to keep the "Buffyverse" as it's called still alive by writing new material, set in the past, during the show, or in the future. Anyway, a show that still has a large fanbase, even after almost three years after the final episode, tells you something about Buffy's impact on people.
