Synopsis

Veronica's year-long investigation of Lilly Kane's murder comes to a shocking conclusion as new evidence leaves no doubt in her mind as to who her killer is. But her discovery leads her into more danger than she's ever faced before.
Meanwhile, Keith asks Veronica to sign a waiver releasing her from the Kane fortune as the question of Veronica's paternity is finally answered.

Newspaper room - Keith is trying to convince Lloyd to write a story about how Abel Koontz did not kill Lilly. He has Cheyenne (aka Deborah Collins) with him. Lloyd is skeptical about writing a story based on the word of a prostitute because if he is wrong, the paper will be a national joke. Keith gives Lloyd a file folder with more facts about the case to help him decide whether to write a story.

Mars residence - Keith checks his mail as he approaches his front door and finds the DNA paternity test results for Veronica have arrived. He puts the unopened envelope in his pocket and goes inside to find Veronica and Lianne having fun preparing supper. Keith turns on some music to set the mood for supper but has to change it because it doesn't match the meal they are going to eat. Lianne is drinking water from a bottle.

Mars Investigations - Keith opens the letter containing the paternity results. Cliff arrives and asks Keith if he is joking about suing the Kanes. Keith assures Cliff he is not joking and tells him the Kanes will settle.

Neptune High School - A worried Cassidy talks to Dick about a newspaper article. Dick tells him to relax and remember they vowed to take what they know to the grave.

Neptune High School, hallway - Wallace and Veronica are walking down the hallway as Wallace reads a newspaper article about Abel Koontz's innocence that also praises Keith's dogged investigation of the Lilly Kane murder. Veronica describes the article as a love letter to her Dad. Veronica drags Wallace into the girls' bathroom when she sees Logan in the hallway. She asks Wallace to go outside and let her know when Logan is gone. Wallace wants to know how long she can keep avoiding Logan.

Mars Investigations - Keith breaks up with Alicia because Lianne is back home. He doesn't really want to, but given the circumstances, he has to at least give Lianne a second chance. Veronica walks in as a distraught Alicia leaves. Veronica comforts her Dad.

Kane Residence - Jake and Celeste are going over the seating arrangement for a dinner party they are planning for the governor. Duncan comes down and asks about the Abel Koontz newspaper article and demands to know the truth. Jake tells Duncan that he killed Lilly in a fit of rage.

Flashback - Jake and Celeste come home to discover Duncan by the pool, wearing his soccer uniform, covered in blood and holding Lilly. Duncan is shocked by the news. Jake says they know it was an accident. Celeste goes to answer the doorbell, and is served with legal papers for the lawsuit Keith has filed.

Neptune High School, cl@ssroom - Veronica is working on a computer when Cassidy comes in to talk to her. He tells that on the weekend that Lilly was murdered, Logan, Dick, and he were surfing in Mexico. But Logan got all worked up because he knew Lilly was seeing someone new, so on the day Lilly was murdered, Logan got up early and drove back to Neptune to see her.

Mars Investigations - Veronica tells Keith about her conversation with Cassidy and how Logan bought a shot glass for Lilly that said 'I got baked in Enscenda' on it. Keith checks an evidence record of what was found in Lilly's car and bedroom the day she died. The shot glass is on the list which means Logan found Lilly that day.

Neptune High School - In an empty hallway, Veronica sees Logan and having no choice, talks to him. She apologizes for avoiding him and says she got scared in the pool house because things were moving too fast for her. She felt weird and guilty and couldn't deal with it so she needed a couple of days alone to process everything. Logan says he feels freaked out too, especially with the Abel Koontz thing and what they know about Duncan. Logan says he understands when Veronica tells him she still needs a couple more days. When Logan leaves, Veronica phones her Dad to tell him Logan is trying to pin the blame for Lilly's death on Duncan. Keith says the border patrol got back to him to say Logan crossed the border at 8:57 am giving him plenty of time to get back to Neptune and kill Lilly. After Veronica hangs up, Weevil emerges from a cl@ssroom where he overheard the phone conversation. He tells Veronica it sounds like Logan killed Lilly and he is mad that rich people think they can get away with murder.

Lawyer's office, conference room - Celeste and her lawyer are sitting across the table from Keith and Cliff, talking about the lawsuit. Celeste says she will pay if Veronica will sign away any future claim to the Kane estate. Cliff protests asking what would happen if Veronica slips and falls outside Kane Software. Keith understands what she is asking for and is willing to settle but wants Veronica to make the decision. He wonders how to explain it to her, but Celeste tells him they both know that Veronica knows exactly why she is being asked to sign the papers. The whole exchange leaves Cliff confused.

Mars Investigations - Keith is staring at Celeste's legal documents when Veronica comes in. He explains Celeste will agree to pay if Veronica signs away any claim to the Kane's fortune. Veronica signs the papers without hesitating, saying there is nothing she wants from them. Keith tells her she didn't sign away anything and shows her the DNA test that proves he is her father. Veronica hugs her father and cries with joy. She suggests they go out and celebrate. Keith says with the new information they have, Logan's alibi is completely blown and they now have enough to go to the authorities.

Echolls residence - Aaron answers the doorbell. Lamb and several deputies are there with a warrant to search Logan's room. They tell Aaron they are following up new information on the Lilly Kane investigation. Lamb reminds the deputies to search the air conditioning vents because kids today hid things in them. A shocked Aaron lets them in.

Neptune High School, parking lot - Weevil is lurking outside while waiting for Logan to leave school. As Logan walks to the parking lot, Weevil starts to approach him from behind. He palms a metal bar he had hid up his sleeve and prepares to attack Logan. Before Weevil can catch up to Logan, two deputies arrive to escort Logan down to the sheriff's office for questioning.

Sheriff's office - Lamb tries to interrogate Logan but doesn't have much success getting answers. Logan demands his one phone call and uses it to call Veronica. He asks her to track down his father and do that thing she does to get people out of jail. Veronica agrees to do whatever she can. Lamb is amused and has the joy of telling Logan that Veronica is the one who gave him the information. Logan is confused and hurt.

Mars residence - Keith phones Lamb to see what he found out questioning Logan. Lamb tells him he didn't learn much but he is pretty certain Logan is dating Veronica which comes as a surprise to Keith. But Logan lawyered up and they had to release him. Keith leaves to find Veronica who is out with Backup.

Dog Beach - Veronica is walking Backup when Logan confronts her on the beach. After confirming they have broken up, he calls her a heartless bitch. Logan calms down and gets emotional while explaining to Veronica what happened the day Lilly was killed. He says when he drove back to Neptune he didn't know what he was going to do - scream at her for treating him like dirt or beg her to take him back. But when he saw her at the school car wash from across the street, this feeling came over him, and he knew it was over, so he wrote her a letter and left it in her car along with the shot glass. He tells Veronica that if you read the letter you would know he would never hurt Lilly. A protective Keith arrives and tells Logan to get away from Veronica. A hurt Logan walks away.

Mars residence - Veronica is watching old video footage of her and Lilly having fun in Lilly's room. Veronica wonders about the letter that Logan says he wrote because it was never found by the police. If Lilly wanted to keep it secret, Veronica thinks she knows where Lilly would have kept it.

Flashback in Lilly's bedroom - Lilly wants to show Veronica some photo's from a guy she meet when she was in Italy last summer. She retrieves the photos from the air conditioning vent in her room. She has to hide them there because Celeste is nosey and regularly searches her room. To bait Celeste, Lilly has taken to leaving matchbooks around the room with imaginary guys' names and phone numbers in them.

Later, Veronica is wearing a black wig and glasses and is dressed up as she prepares crash the Kane's dinner party. She goes to fridge and gets a bottle of her Mom's water from the fridge. She takes a drink and has to immediately spit it out because it is not water. She then calls the Hazelwood facility where her Mom went for alcohol rehab.

Kane residence - At the party, Veronica is carrying a plate of appetizers, fitting in as one of the wait staff. She makes her way to Lilly's bedroom and puts the tray down on a table outside the bedroom door, but is not careful enough, and it crashes to the floor. In Lilly's room, she discovers the screws on the air vent are already loose. An unseen person is watching her from a closet. Duncan enters the room, grabs her and demands to know who she is and what she is doing there. Veronica's wig falls off and she identifies herself to Duncan. Veronica tells him she thinks Logan killed Lilly and is looking for a letter he was suppose to have left her which she thinks is hidden in the air vent. Veronica is surprised to finds several video tapes hidden in the air vent. Duncan says he has a camera that can play them in his room. Again, an unseen person is watching them.

Kane residence, Duncan's room - They play one of the tapes. Veronica recognizes the location as the Echolls pool house and realizes it's from the day Lilly was killed.

Videotape - We see Lilly, in her pep-squad outfit, lying on the bed calling out for her lover to hurry up and join her. Lilly notices something wrong with the ceiling, gets off the bed, goes off-camera and the tape goes blank. Duncan plays another tape, this one dated October 1st.

Videotape - They see two people are having sex but we can't see their faces. Eventually they see Lilly's face and later Aaron Echolls face.

Veronica and Duncan are shocked to discover Lilly and Aaron were having an affair. Veronica then says she knows what happened.

Veronica's visualization - Lilly is in the pool house and discovers that Aaron was secretly taping them having sex so she takes the tapes she finds and leaves. Aaron enters the room and finds the tapes are gone. Lilly drives home and runs a red light along the way. At home she hides the tapes, takes some magazines and goes to lie by the pool. Aaron arrives demanding the tapes back from Lilly. When she won't give them back, he gets angry, and kills her with the ashtray. Duncan comes home from soccer practice to find Lilly dead by the pool. He runs over, holds her and has epilepsy episode. Jake and Celeste arrive home later to find Duncan holding Lilly.

Duncan wonders if Aaron is capable of killing Lilly, but Veronica assures him that he is. She tells him about the time Aaron beat up a guy and then nonchalantly asked Logan how his school day was. She also mentions they both know Aaron beats Logan. Duncan tells her Aaron is downstairs meeting the governor. Veronica needs to get the tapes to her Dad and asks Duncan to keep an eye on Aaron until she calls. Before Veronica leaves, she tells Duncan about the paternity test and that they are not related.

On the way to her car, Veronica phones her Dad and tells him about the tapes she found of Lilly and Aaron having an affair. Keith wants her to stay at the Kanes and he will come and get her. But she says Aaron is at the party and Duncan is watching him so it would be better if she came to him. She promises to drive straight home and be there in 10 minutes. From the car, she tries to phone Logan but he doesn't answer.

Bridge - Logan is standing on the bridge railing, drinking and listening to music. Weevil and the PCH'ers ride up on their bikes. Logan understands Weevil is there to fight him gestures to Weevil to bring it.

Road - Duncan phones to tell Veronica that he can't find Aaron and nobody knows where he is. She hangs up and when she checks her rear view mirror, she sees Aaron in the back seat. Aaron tells her to keep driving and takes the videotapes from Veronica bag. Veronica checks her seatbelt and then crashes her car into a power pole. They are both knocked unconscious.

Mars residence - Keith tries to phone Veronica but when he gets no answer he leaves to find her.

Side of road - Veronica is the first to awake and is able to retrieve the videotapes from an unconscious Aaron. She tries to get her phone but Aaron starts to stir so she exits the car without it. She spots a house and runs to it to get help, but no one answers the door. She looks back at the car and sees the passenger side door is open which means Aaron is no longer in the car. She runs around to the back of the house and starts hiding the videotapes - in a discarded washing machine, in a garbage can and on the roof of the house. In the process she makes enough noise to wake up the occupant of the house and he comes to the patio door. He suddenly drops to the floor and the last thing Veronica sees is Aaron's fist coming at her face.

Behind the house - Veronica wakes up trapped in a discarded fridge with a walkie-talkie Aaron found in her car. Aaron uses the walkie-talkie to talk to Veronica and ask for the tapes back. When Veronica doesn't tell him where the tapes are, he finds a can of gas and pours it on and around the fridge and threatens to burn her alive like Joan of Arc. Veronica relents and tells him the tapes are on the roof of the house.

Side of road - Keith finds Veronica's car.

Behind the house - Aaron climbs onto the roof to look for the tapes as Keith comes around the side of the house calling Veronica's name. Aaron jumps on Keith from the roof and they fight using various objects in the yard. Keith is able to subdue Aaron, but not before Aaron lights the gas he poured on the fridge. Aaron tells Keith that Veronica is in the fridge and he might want to check up on her. Keith goes to rescue Veronica while Aaron uses the opportunity to escape. Keith catches fire and gets burned rescuing Veronica. Veronica is almost hysterical thanking her dad for rescuing her.

Side of road - Aaron finds Keith's car and tries to get away in it, but is attacked by Backup who is in the back seat. Aaron jumps out of the car, into the road, where he is hit by a passing truck. Before the truck driver can check on Aaron, Veronica arrives, holding a gun, and tells the truck driver not to touch Aaron and use his cell phone to call 911.

Later, ambulance, police, and the fire department are on the scene. Keith is being wheeled away on a stretcher. Aaron is also being taken away on stretcher and read his rights by a deputy. Jake and Duncan arrive and an upset Jake tries to attack Aaron, vowing to see him fry for what he did. Jake is arrested for obstruction of justice and is taken away.

Neptune Hospital - Veronica is watching her dad sleep in his hospital bed. The doctor enters. He tells her that Keith will be fine and that she should go home and get some rest. Veronica does not want to leave her Dad alone so the doctor asks if there is anyone they can call.

Mars residence - Veronica arrives home and a worried Lianne asks what happened and where is Keith. Veronica tells her Mom she needs to pack and be gone when Keith comes home. She tells Lianne she knows she still drinks and didn't finish her rehab. Her Mom wasted her college money and Veronica is through believing in her.

Neptune Hospital - Keith wakes up to find Alicia sitting beside him. Alicia says Veronica didn't want him to wake up alone. Keith is pleased.

Mars residence - Veronica goes to bed, while in the living room, Lianne has packed her bags and is ready to leave. She searches Keith bag, finds the $50K settlement cheque from the Kanes, takes it and leaves.

Veronica dream - Veronica and Lilly are floating on a pool raft in a pool full of flowers. They say a final goodbye to each other.

Veronica answers a knock at the door and warmly welcomes an unseen person.
