Veronica's year-long investigation of Lilly Kane's murder comes to a shocking conclusion as new evidence leaves no doubt in her mind as to who her killer is. But her discovery leads her into more danger than she's ever faced before.
Meanwhile, Keith asks Veronica to sign a waiver releasing her from the Kane fortune as the question of Veronica's paternity is finally answered.

This was a pretty great hour of television and I don't care how many people want to call Veronica Mars a teen drama: it's absolutely not. It's a drama with teens (well, adults playing teens), but anyone can enjoy this, not just people who want to see angst. This show aims higher than that and succeeds brilliantly. This episode finally brought conclusion to the Lily Kane murder mystery arc that had been going on since day one. I'm going to speak candidly about it. If you don't want to know who her killer is, I don't have too much sympathy for you since you're reading a review of the episode. It turns out to be Logan's father, Aaron. Despite all their attempts to make you think it would be Duncan or Logan, I knew it wouldn't be them. They were both too obvious. But I must admit, I didn't think of Aaron. I'd kind of been thinking about who it might have been within the main cast. Duncan's parents told him it was him early in the episode, which of course meant it wasn't him. There'd be no suspense left in the episode if they revealed the secret right away. I also was about 95% it wasn't Logan since they'd kind of set him up to look like the bad guy in the last episode. Both choices were too easy. Maybe a crappy show would have made one of them the bad guy, but Rob Thomas and crew knew better.
Since I was looking at the main cast, that basically left Weevil. He still seemed like kind of an obvious choice since his character is supposed to be prone to violence and breaking the law, but Veronica hadn't really ever pursued him as a serious suspect, even though he would have potentially had a motive. The fact that the Weevil angle was so downplayed made me think it would be him. I mean it obviously wouldn't be Duncan or Logan. And Keith? Come on! That ending would have been moronic. Still, Weevil was also too easy a choice. Hopefully, I'll fare a little better solving season two's mystery. I'll spend more time looking at the long shots!
The one thing about the episode that I felt was kind of stupid was Aaron hiding in the back of Veronica's car and her not realizing it until too late. That was far too predictable, the kind of thing this show usually manages to avoid. Still, I guess I can't think of a better way to set up a Veronica versus Aaron fight, which was a necessary plot point since the viewer needed some real action to close out a story they'd been watching for 22 episodes. Overall, I can't say I was disappointed. I know Veronica Mars never got great ratings (hence the eventual cancellation) and I assume the show was on the bubble when this episode was produced because this could have served as a series finale in many ways. Of course, we were left with a couple of questions. What happened to the note Logan claims he left for Lily? Unless I missed them mentioning that at some point....but I don't think so. And also what happened with Weevil and Logan at the bridge? I know we're supposed to desperately wonder who was at the door at the end too, but I think that ending still would have worked as a series finale because it could have been left open to viewer interpretation. Fortunately, the show did get a second and third season so I will get some answers. I'm off to watch season 2 now (it's going on 1:30 in the morning but I don't plan to quit soon....that's how good this show is getting). If you haven't seen this episode, watch it now even though I've just ruined it for you. And if you have, agree with me or face Veronica Mars exhile. Trust me. It's a bad place.
Out of all the people I thought killed Lily, Araon Echolls was the last person I expected it to be. I admit for a while I thought it was Jake Kane, the I suspected Celeste and Weevil would be behind Lilly's death and then I was absolutely sure it was Duncan but then it turns out to be Araon ?! Why did the Kanes tell Duncan that he killed Lilly ? Maybe they thought he did. The scene in which Duncan attacks Veronica for looking through Lilly's bedroom was breathtaking but then to find a sex tape of Lilly and Araon. So may surprises in a forty two minute episode. I'll head straight to the final scenes. Veronica is attacked by Araon in her car and she creates an accident. She wakes up and takes the sex tapes which will prove that Araon was the murderer. After running away Araon catches up to her and locks her in a fridge which he sets on fire. An intense fight between Araon and Keith happens and for a minute there I thought Araon would win. After Keith beating Araon's a$$ to the ground, he saves Veronica from burning in the fridge...how weird does that sound ? Gets burnt in a fridge :P Jake Kane ran towards Araon and starts shouting " You killed my daughter, that's my daughter !!!". Logan and Weevil meet at the bridge where Lynn jumped and apparently they leave us with a cliffhanger there. The episode ends with such a sad scene. Lilly and Veronica sun bathing in a pool with flowers all around them. I remember this sentence that Lilly said : Don't forget about me, Veronica. And Veronica replies : Ï would never. * tears rolling down my eyes *. Also in this episode Veronica tells Duncan she's not his sister and she confronts her mother about the alcoholism. A fantastic episode that ends a brilliant season. Great stuff !!!
WHAT just happened?! And WOW!! hide show
This was one of the best season finale's I have ever seen. The conclusion was unpredictable and the episode was action-packed and exciting. This episode and others like it are the reasons that I watch this series. Every minute was interesting to the viewers and every storyline was wrapped up without seeming contrived or forced. Also, this episode manages to create a new cliffhanger without putting the viewer too over the edge with new information. This episode made it a struggle to wait and see how the rest of the series would continue. It is not only a classic episode within the series, but a classic TV episode in general.
After not giving a "10" to the first 20 episodes of the season I bow down to the final two episodes. I would like to state that I did call the killer two episodes ago...off a blind, dumb luck guess that I would have likely changed a hundred times if I actually watched this show when it was live.
Anyway - to the episode itself. Couple of things. Veronica is Keith's daughter. Awesome. Love that everything that Duncan and Veronica were is still normal. I don't think I would have liked the brother / sister thing between the two of them with the amount of history that they had had together. Aaron Echolls being the killer was a couple of things. The first reaction wasn't even about Aaron Echolls, it was my once again change of heart towards Logan. He didn't know about the tapes, his father was the only one who was actually using them. It all began to make sense after that. Duncans parents did think that he did it - which is why there was a lot of coverup on their part of the story. However, Aaron was the real murderer it was all just put off on Duncans illness.
The entire scene at the end with Keith coming to Veronicas rescue was very well done. A lot of emotion there coming from the both of them and I thought that both actors did a great job there. Veronicas mom taking the 50,000 and leaving? Sure, whatever. Hope thats the last we see of her. The cliffhanger? It's Logan. I don't care how long it takes me to buy season two it has to be Logan. I don't care that Duncan makes more sense becuase of Weevil having Logan on the bridge. Making sense isn't what television is about. =)
Tremendouse finish to the season. I thought the beginning of the season and some of the middle episodes may keep this from being "The Best Season" of television I have watched, but I will say that down the last 6-7 epsiodes this show had me pressing "play all" until 4:53 in the morning. Awesome. Cannot wait to buy season two on DVD.
This episode represents everything good that can be possibly put in TV. 21 episodes of set up finally play off, and oh boy, it plays off nice and smooth.
Every little detail suddenly makes sense in this mind blowing, masterfully constructed season finale of one of the best shows on TV, Veronica Mars.
The beginning with the Kanes telling Duncan he's the killer, what the heck? If that wasn't shocking enough, get this: he's not. And then who is? ......Aaron Echolls?! What THE F***...
Exactly. And it all makes sense too, despite the fact it may seem like a random choice.
It's not, though. But if you just think about it, would it been dramatic if it turned out to be Duncan? He's been suspected for 12 episodes now, not much of a shocker. Logan? Well that'd been a bit more shocking for sure, but that's just way too out of character for him. But Aaron is a perfect choice. He's always been there - and he wasn't exactly normal either, but you would've never thought of the possibility...
Logan's arrest is really well done too. I loved how he called Veronica for help just to find out one moment later from the sheriff that she gave in the tip to arrest him.
The moment the killer's revealed is just the moment where the meat of the episode starts. Veronica Mars suddenly transforms from a noir drama to a suspensful thriller. Kristen Bell's performance is simply breathetaking. Usually actors and actresses struggle with crying and shouting(panicking) Not Kristen. While it's not much of a surprise that she survives Aaron's attack thanks to Keith, it was still an incredibly intense scene with some great brutal fighting.
And then of course, the sweet conclusion with Veronica's dream of Lilly, with some nice dialouge:
"Don't forget me..."
We certainly won't.
The cliffhanger's mild, but there's one. Someone on V's doorstep she was... expecting. Logan? Duncan? Find out in season 2.
Overall, this episode simply couldn't have been done any better. A satisfying season finale to the first season, that makes you forget some of the bumps the show hit in the beginning.
