The View is ABC Daytime's morning chat fest, featuring a team of five dynamic women of different ages, experiences and backgrounds discussing the most exciting events of the day. The show consists of the five co-anchors debating topics in the news. Throughout each show they are joined by the best experts in their field and celebrtiy guests. The show is currently in it's twelfth season. The program has received critical acclaim since premiering August 11, 1997. Broadcast live Monday through Friday (11:00 a.m.-12:00 noon, ET, from New York City). The show's format has proved popular in other countries, most notably, the UK's show Loose Women.

The show is produced by and features ABC News correspondent Barbara Walters from 1997, moderator Whoopi Goldberg from 2007, actress-comedian Sherri Shepherd from 2007, comedian Joy Behar from 1997, and television personality Elisabeth Hasselbeck from 2003.

Previous co-hosts are; Meredith Vieira who appeared between 1997 and 2006, alongside Star Jones, Debbie Matenopoulos from 1997 to 1999 and Lisa Ling between 1999 and 2002. The most recent addition to past presenters was Rosie O'Donnell who appeared between 2006 and 2007.

The View has won a total of 24 Daytime Emmy Awards. Other accolades include been awareded the Gracie Award from the Foundation of American Women in Radio and Television, two Prism Commendations presented by the Entertainment Industries Council & National Institute on Drug Abuse, winning the GLAAD Media Award for Outstanding TV Talk Show, the Los Angeles Daily News Reader's Choice Award for Best Morning Talk Show, the Good Housekeeping magazine, Great Works Award, and was also voted Favorite Talk Show by Viewers Voice. The show has also been awarded the Safe Horizon Champion Award in 2001 and the Linda Dano Heart Award from Heartshare Human Services of New York in 2002.less «

  Why does Joy Behar try to make everything thats talked about on the show into something to joke about?? Is she that desperate for a laugh? Unlike Whoopie, Joy is NOT funny, just annoying! I feel that the View needs to replace her at this point, for someone who doesn't need to try and draw all the attention to themselves.... Having Elizabeth is bad enough, now the Joy ranting like someone always out of control, enough of already!! less «

  Are they TRYING to give credence to the sterotype of women?! hide « show »

  Because they are succeeding, and I guess I should be pleased they are succeeding at something.
  
  The premise SHOULD be good: five very different women, theoretically all intelligent, having a dialogue about today's key issues/interests.
  
  The reality IS a disaster.
  
  1) My head spins trying to listen to someone's point of "View" only to have a who-can-talk-louder-and-be-more-obnoxious-doing-so competition. (a.k.a. the stereotype)
  2) I am all for free speech, but under this format, a little open-mindedness (Elizabeth) would go a long way. I want to hear all opinions, but I expect them to be informed, to be respectful, and to be open to the FACT that there are always two sides to a story. We don't have to agree, but being dogmatic only lessens your desired impact with your own "View". (a.k.a. the stereotype)
  3) I have given up watching except for a specific guest I might want to see. I can't say, "a specific guest I would want hear", because the chances of that are slim to nil. And on that note, if I were a performer or writer or politician with a promotion or point to make, I would want my agent keeping me as far away from THIS venue as I could get. You wouldn't get your "View" across, and oh, look...

  Preggers! hide « show »

  The only thing missing in her wardrobe is the hooded white sheet! She is the epitomy of a RACIST! Her body language, facial expressions, and most importantly her views! Everything she has to say about the 1st family is negative and/derogatory, how he's not the right choice. She should be working for Rush Limbaugh's old racist behind! Freedom of speech is one thing but she overtalks Sheri, Joy, and Barbara too, Whoopi seems to keep her in line (u go girl)! As for Elizabiyatch, isn't it time for maternity leave again? Go have ur brats and get over urself! "Black is the new President"!

  I think it is refreshing when you can tell you are not being lead down the wrong path from the get go! There is no BS here!! In my humble opinion there is far too much BS in today's world. Down with BS!!
  
  I have to agree with Glenn that EVERYONE in Government needs to step down! Today's Government is entirely corrupt. It is my hope that there are a couple that are really trying to help the people but we really need to start over from scratch! The following is a strong statement but one I feel needs to be examined...With the deficit the way it is; how great would it be if those in Governement would take pay cuts themselves. What a grand gesture that would be.
  
  Today's show (5/20/09) was inspiring. you handled things with Glenn maturely and with great poise & I admire all of you. I only caught the last 15 minutes of the show & went online to try to watch it in it's entirety but can only find up to May 5th available. I hope this gets updated soon as I would also like to watch Glenn's show to understand what he was saying & didn't catch the show's info.

  Natasha Richardson near death but minutes later: spouses make decisions at hospital/yes or no, unplug a vegetable, making no connection to Natasha. Miraculous singer; different, not beautiful, change appearance before wish to be a professional singer hide « show »

  Listen to your tape when Natasha had her accident, it was terrible the way you went on and on about unplugging each other.
  
  In regard to Susan Boyle, you are insensitive, and have lost direction. Take a look at yourselves. I had to take a look at myself; I thought Susan Boyle would be a terrible joke for Britains Got Talent. When her song came out of her blessed body, I felt ashamed of myself. We need to accept everyone. Why are we comparing everyone with being beautiful, perfect, something out of a novel? Susan could be out answer that beautiful is only the shell; listen to her; she is beautiful.

  This show can be entertaining some times. I think that the entertainment comed from the fights on the show, which I like to see. Other than that, this show really makes me hurt. I can't understand them at times because they all gab at the very same instant without shutting up. Joy is a liberal nut. Elisabeth is a blind conservative. Whoopie is funny, but Barbara is boring. I don't knwo what to think of the last one. Overall, this show was very much a show for women and for their viewers. As a guy, I don't think I can stand this show for very long. Thank you.
