According to the book Irwin Allen Productions by Jon Abbott, the scene where the creature bursts through the door into the lab was supposed to be more extensive. It was a one-shot deal. The breakaway door refused to give way on cue, and when it finally did, the creature and all the actors tumbled through--and burst out laughing, ruining the shot.

Crane: I told you there was no use trying to fight it, Admiral.
Nelson: I'm sure you fought it, Lee.
Crane: That's why I tried to warn you. (edit)
