Public Space: Prototyping and Pro-active Design Architects and designers of the built environment are primarily service providers. This means that we mostly wait for the phone to ring with a client’s preconceived project agenda. Public Architecture works outside of this model by acting as both problem-solver and problem-identifier. In many of these cases no conventional client exists. Additionally, the design process of public spaces has historically involved only a handful of participants. The needs of most of the users are simply imagined by designers.
