While Michael is giving his speech, there's a reaction shot of George Sr. without his glasses on in between clips where he's wearing glasses (the one after showing him taking them off).
George, Sr.: I think it's showtime.
This reference was toward the premium cable channel Showtime, which showed interest in picking up the series (although this episode was filmed before the Showtime speculation started).
The "Home Builder's Organization" reference is toward the premium cable channel HBO (since the network had shown no interest in picking up the series).
On the "Variety" Homepage with the top-story "Movie execs doing "Snow" again," there's an ad saying "This Fall Reinhold Justice Will Be Done!" This is a reference to actor Judge Reinhold.
The discussion about attempting to recruit an Oscar-winning actress -- "maybe Nicole Kidman" -- for the Save Our Bluths party is a reference to Oscar winner Charlize Theron, who guest-starred in previous episodes as Rita, Michael's mentally-challenged British girlfriend/fiance.
TV Newscaster: Do you like foam in your coffee? It's called a cap-a-keeno, and you'll never believe what it costs!
Andy Dick: And whatever happened to the Muffin Man? Remember him? I always pictured a giant six-foot muffin trying to eat me while I was eating him. It's kind of a fantasy I go to a lot now.
Gob: If you didn't have adult onset diabetes, I wouldn't mind giving you a little sugar.
Mrs. Van Skoyk: Oh, Gob ... you could charm the black off a telegram boy.
Narrator: Ok, we should tell you right now. She is the one who dies!
Donnie: Hardly. See, if it were me, I would say I'm Donnie Richter. I have a brother named Andy. He's an attention hog. He can't seem to really attract a real audience, but I love the fat S.O.B. anyway.
Michael: My son expresses himself just fine. Isn't that right, son?
George Michael: What? Yeah ... fine. Uh, yes, I don't care. What's up?
Tobias: Yes, he's a regular Freddie Wilson, that one.
Michael: I don't know that reference.
Lindsay: I don't either.
Tobias: I don't know either.
Narrator: It's this guy. (an image of men dressed like the Village People is shown, with the "biker" highlighted)
Tobias: You know, Michael, if I may take off my acting pants for a moment and pull my analrapist stocking over my head, George Michael has been acting strange lately. I think he may have developed what we in the soft sciences refer to obsessive-compulsive disorder. Or the O.C. disorder.
Michael: Don't call it that.
Michael: My son's just fine where he is. And he's got the SAT's coming up. You got to do well on those. You studying upstairs?
George Michael: Yeah, I'm just taking a three real quick, so I can get a cream soda.
Michael: Gob, pal, how about you? Can you find some work?
Gob: Oh, sure, Michael. As what, a waiter? Can I get you something, madam?
Lucille: I will have a vodka, though.
(Lucille and Gob laugh)
Gob: What? Oh.
Michael: You know, if you'd ever accidentally worked a day in your life, you'd know that there's no indignity in it.
Gob: Great. She'll have a vodka.
Lindsay: They teach self-expression and getting in touch with feelings, Michael. I mean, I know you don't have any.
Gob: The boy who couldn't cry.
Buster: He's a robot! (Buster's prosthetic hand falls off)
Lindsay: Michael can cry. He just doesn't want to rust.
Tobias: Yes, he's like the steel man from The Wizard From Oz.
Lindsay: Yeah, check it out. I found that canned ham that we'd had forever, and I put it in a pot of boiling water, and guess what I'm calling it?
Lindsay: Hot ham water.
George Michael: OCD? No, I'm just cleaning up after Aunt Lindsay. She never turns things off.
Michael: Well ... guess that explains why I saw the hedge trimmer zipping around the drive-way. I did it again, didn't I? I'm so self-centered. From now on, I want you to just tell me what's on your mind, ok? And I promise I won't just hear what I want to hear.
George Michael: I love my cousin.
Michael: Love you, too, pal.
Tobias: All right, I'll listen to this later. And don't tell me where you've been. It'll just make me worry more. But guess what? There's a new daddy in town.
Music: A new daddy in town ...
Tobias: A discipline daddy.
Music: A discipline daddy ... Gonna spank your behind, uh-huh ...
Tobias: Oh, it's a ... it's a parenting tape.
Narrator: Tonight, an Arrested Development you can't miss. A cavalcade of stars. The shocking final moments will be presented live! And one of these people ... will die!
George: Well, I don't think the Home Builder's Organization is gonna be supporting us.
Michael: Yeah, the HBO is not gonna want us. What are we gonna do now?
Oscar: Well, I think it's Showtime.
Narrator: Now that's a clear situation with the promise of comedy. Tell your friends about this show!
Michael: It's just hard to accept that it's really come to begging.
George: Sometimes, it's the only way to stay in the game.
Narrator: Please tell your friends about this show!
George Michael: Um, will this go toward my grade?
Donnie Richter: (laughs) We don't have grades here. A student either learns and gets an "L" or they fluctuate in their learning.
George Michael: And what do we get for that?
Donnie Richter: (bluntly) An "F".
Narrator: ... and so, Gob accidently worked a day in his life.
When George Michael wants a cream soda, Lindsay mixes baking soda and cream in a glass.
On Variety.com, where we discover about Maeby's new film, we can see an advertisement for Ocean Walker. Ocean Walker was a movie that Maeby was asked to read in an earlier episode. Rita, Michael's girlfriend, came up with the idea of people being able to walk on oceans. She was coincidentally mentally retarded.
It is revealed that the company that Maeby works for is called Tantamount Studios. This is an obvious parody of Paramount Studios. Tantamount Studios is the fictitious studio from Mr. Show with Bob & David. David Cross co-starred and co-wrote the sketch show. The Tantamount Studio in Mr. Show portrayed everything that was evil of the four major networks; the show relished being "off the map" on HBO.
Buster greets Lindsay with "Hey, sister" for the first time.
Andy Richter starred in the FOX series Quintuplets. It is a joke that he has 4 identical brothers in this episode. Quintuplets was also produced by Imagine Television. It was cancelled after one season.
The second time Lindsay is stirring the hot ham water, she is using a spoon rest instead of the wooden spoon she was using earlier.
www.saveourbluths.org was registered by the Twentieth Century Fox Film Corp. at December 15.
S.O.B. stands for "Save Our Bluths". It is also speculated that "S.O.B." is a slant directed at FOX, as this was the first episode written after FOX announced the cutback for Season 3.
Tobias: Now we paint our lips Joan Crawford red.
Joan Crawford was an Oscar-winning actress who starred in movies such as, Mildred Pierce and What Ever Happened to Baby Jane?. She was also the central figure of the book and movie, Mommie Dearest.
After helping her dad stuff goodie bags for studio producers, Maeby complains she has glitter in her lungs...which is very similar to Tobias' complaint of having diamond dust in his lungs from inhaling a large quantity of Lindsay's diamond-based makeup in "The One Where They Build A House".
During an exchange on fundraising approaches, George Sr and Michael say that "HBO does not want us" and "I think it's showtime", a reference to the rumors of Arrested Development moving onto the networks of HBO and Showtime.
The ending refers to when shows seem to get 'desperate' and do live shows to attract a larger audience, much like The West Wing did recently with its live debate.
Andy Richter playing quintuplets is a nod to his FOX show Quintuplets.
The video clip from Why We Were Scared of the '70s was a nod to VH1's I Love the '70s and their other similarly titled decade-nostalgia shows.
The "3D scene" was in reference to an episode of the NBC series Medium. However, the "scene" was not in 3D.
