Episode Summary

EDIT
Since all DCIS is not the same as regards malignant potential, Dr. Hwang describes a clinical trial which will hopefully provide some answers. Where the DCIS contains hormone receptors, patients may be treated 3 months prior to surgery to monitor response to medical (hormonal) therapy and some may not even need surgery, or where a mastectomy may have been needed, it may be possible to conserve the breast.Peter Pressman, MDInterviewee:Shelley Hwang MD, MPH, Chief Breast Surgical Oncology UCSF Helen Diller Family Comprehensive Cancer Center http://cancer.ucsf.edumoreless
