Mammograms are interpreted by the radiologist who is often the first physician to detect a breast cancer and to tell the patient her diagnosis. Sonograms supplement screening and are also used to investigate an abnormality first seen on an X ray. Dr. Plesser describes why the radiologist has become integral in the management of breast cancer, utilizing MRI to evaluate extent of disease and also to determine operability in patients being treated with neoadjuvant therapy.
