Sparhusen is an amusing faux-documentary created by Illeana Douglas about the Swedish experimental pop group Sparhusen: Beirget Kattson, Olf Nystrom, and Gert Forseberg. Shot through the granulated lens and aged film of Mangus Svenka's epic, if unfinished, 'Triumph of Sparhusen” the mockumentary details the band's relationships, both with former Manager, Bjorn Epstein (one of only 3 Swedish Jews), and with famed Swedish record producer Wurst Fierren, (Keanu Reeves). Footage includes the original recording sessions of Sparhusen's landmark album, 'Apples & Fish,' and its equally influential and undeniably catchy single, 'Apples & Fish.' The process is creatively draining for all, especially working with Fierren, who influences the album with extensive use of whale sounds, and the famous 'I give you the fish' role-playing exercises. The documentary concluded just three weeks before the fateful plane crash that stole 'Sweden's almost great bandâ' from us all. As Wurst says so perfectly, 'I think we are done, ya?'moreless
