New Urbanism is a web series that is dedicated to the brilliant and intuitive street art that is typically found in major cities. In these situations, the canvas for the modern artist is the concrete jungle. Individuals design and implement their own architectural creations and eco-friendly living environment, using nothing more than an imaginative mind and frugal nature. Some of the creations include rooftop farms, a dumpster swimming pool and an underground opera house. This is a Babelgum original series. One episode presents four artists as they live on an eco-friendly barge in New York, traveling to different parts of the city over the course of five months to promote sustainability. Their project aimed to answer a number of questions about green living in today's urban environments, as they grew their own food in a study of water-based living on the Hudson River. With rapid industrialization, preserving the ecosystem is more important than ever in the past.moreless

Acrassicauda is a thrash metal band who is well-known for becoming the first heavy metal band to emerge from Iraq. The band formed and played under the regime of Saddam Hussein and were subject to death threats after their success began to threaten Islamic politicians who believed they were worshipping Satan. Because of their unique story, VBS.TV created a web documentary series for the band entitled "Heavy Metal in Baghdad." The documentary took place over three years in Baghdad and exposed the plight of trying to promote cultural expression during war while also showing the courage Acrassicauda had to live out their own dreams. The series shows clips of the band's opinions/footage on the refugee situation in Syria as well, a cause which is very important to the four members. Largely due to its look at the toll of war on young citizens, "Heavy Metal in Baghdad" was named one of top documentaries featured at the 2007 Toronto International Film Festival.moreless

The A.V Club - Undercover is the music series produced by the A.V. Club. Producers bring together 25 bands to cover 25 songs, all in the small, round room of the A.V. Club office. The up-and-coming bands are invited to play a song from the list developed by the A.V. Club staff. Once a band plays a song, it is crossed off the list so that future bands won't have that as an option. Bands discuss why they selected a song and share their artistic vision for the cover. Episodes include The Walkmen, from New York, covering R.E.M's "Driver 8" from 1985, Tokyo Police Club singing Billy Squier's "Everybody Wants You," Cymbals Eat Guitars taking on "Detroit Has A Skyline" by Superchunk and Ben Folds covering Elliott Smith's "Say Yes." Once the songs and videos were completed, viewers had a chance to vote on their favorite cover. The A.V. Club is an entertainment newspaper and website published by The Onion dedicated to providing real interviews, reviews and features that follow the entertainment and pop culture of the day.moreless

Yacht Rock is an original Web series on the popular website Channel 101. J.D. Ryznar and Hunter D. Stair created and star in this fictional retelling of the stories behind some of America's most famous soft rock stars of the 1970s and early 1980s. Comparable to a fictionalized version of VH1's "Behind the Music," Yacht Rock details the sometimes mythical origins behind the songs belonging to artists like Kenny Loggins, Hall and Oates, Michael Jackson, Michael McDonald, and more. The series was created because of Ryznar and Stair's fascination with the collaborative recording careers between bands like Steely Dan, Toto, and the Doobie Brothers. As such, this series parodies the incestuous nature of the soft rock music industry in the late 70s, and satirizes the songwriting process between well-known artists of the time, as well as their relationships with each other. Ever entertaining and always aiming for laughs, Yacht Rock has been going strong on Channel 101 since 2005.moreless
