For nearly forty years, America has been entertained by the trials and tribulations of Pine Valley, Pennsylvania. On 5 January 1970, ABC premiered one of their most famous soap operas, "All My Children." The show is famous for dealing with many socially relevant issues reflective of the times. Such issues include abortion, drug use, the Vietnam War, homosexuality, and rape. But it has always done it in a classy and intelligent way, which is why the show has lasted so long and remained so popular. Through good times and bad times, the show has always stuck through - until 2011 when ABC pulled the plug and the show was intended to move online. The plans were, however, suspended until early 2013 when the show was finally revived again, only to be canceled after its first revived season on the air.moreless

Premiering on July 1968, One Life to Live has followed the lives of the fictional city of Llanview, P.A. for over forty years. Originally the focus of the show was on the wealthy Lord family and the "normal" Woleks and Rileys. Although the Lord family remains very much a part of the show, the focus has moved to the Buchanans, Rappaports, Gannons, Holdens and Cramers, among others. Over the years One Life to Live has featured stories on interracial couples, personality disorders, drug addiction, gang violence, cultism, rape, time travel and even out of body experiences. Located only a short distance away from Pine Valley, there have been many crossovers over the years between One Life to Live (Llanview) and All My Children (Pine Valley), including a 2004 baby switch story that has spanned most of the year, and involved One Life to Live's Cramers and Buchanans and All My Children's Chandlers, Kanes and Martins. Following its cancellation on ABC, the show was originally intended to move on to an on-line network, but the plans for that were scrapped until early 2013, when the show was finally revived. Due to a lawsuit with ABC which was filed back in September that lead to Prospect Park to cancel both All My Children and One Life to Live.moreless

The series, which is directed by Jennifer Gelfer, focuses on a group of four men who are hyper-masculine, yet have all come out as gay in their personal lives. The main characters include Dalton (Nick Fuller), Jacob (Max Rhyser), Benjamin (Ben Pamies) and Dane (Chase Coleman). While their actions do not raise an eyebrow in public, these five friends have a tough time adapting to certain aspects of gay culture because of their "straight-acting" demeanor. The series covers the plight of men who do not define themselves by their sexuality and who do not fit into stereotypes associated with anything other than simply being attracted to men. Based in the heart of New York City, In Between Men is full of racy storylines, awkward situations and emotional joys and pains as these men seek to define themselves in a world where they are the exception.moreless

Seattle Grace: On Call is a documentary-styled webisode series taking place within the world of Grey's Anatomy that takes a deeper look at the lives of the doctors beyond the typical series. While the series focuses on the doctors of the likes of Dr. Derek Sheppard and Dr. Meredith Grey in the halls of the beloved yet busy Seattle Grace Hospital, Seattle Grace: On Call highlights some of the lesser-known yet equally dramatic interns as they lose their white coats and chill at Joe's Bar. Megan (Molly Kidder) had lost her job in the merger with Seattle Grace and Mercy West but it seems her role in making waves hasn't disappeared when her affair with a surgical intern-now husband, Steve (Mark Saul), resulted in a pregnancy of unknown paternity and a rather scored ex-boyfriend, Pierce (Joseph Williamson). For Reed (Nora Zehetner) and Charles (Robert Baker), their relationship is a bit on edge as Reed pines after Dr. Karev while Charles pines after her. Sometimes, the drama just doesn't end after primetime.moreless

The LXD, short for the Legion of Extraordinary Dancers, is a web series from director John M. Chu about a group of dancers who also serve as a justice league of superheroes, even without traditional supernatural powers. Instead, they possess extraordinary powers of dance, and a mysterious outfit known as the LXD recruits them. There is also the hint of evil in the form of a shadow woven throughout the episodes, suggesting another entity that uses supernatural powers of dance in a bad way. As the story unfolds, it is told not just through dialogue but through extraordinary dance sequences that leave no question about why these dancer's abilities can turn them into superheroes. The actors on the show are relatively unknown except for their experience in the dance and choreography communities, with the notable exception of Harry Shum Jr., who stars as choir member Mike Chang on the hit Fox show Glee. The core group of the show's main characters has done performances opening for the Glee tour, on So You Think You Can Dance, and at The Oscars.moreless

The Animatrix is a collection of 9 short films produced and commissioned by Matrix creators the Wachowski brothers, and is now available to view on TheWB.com. Each short was created by a different animator, ranked top in the world, and adds backstory and new chapters to the epic Sci-Fi trilogy. The shorts (or chapters) explain the origin of the machines, created by man to serve man. However, after many years of abuse, and eventual banishment, the machines rose against their makers in full-on man vs. machine war. Because the machines ran on solar energy, men darkened the sky, so machines imprisoned all of mankind for an alternative power source. They created the illusionary world of the matrix to mask their control. However there were cases of those inside the matrix breaking through. Like Neo from the trilogy, a high school boy realized the truth from the computer; An athlete pushes himself passed what should be physically possible and awakens (even if just for a second); a detective finds a pattern that takes him to the truth. The Animatrix also served as part of an arching larger story combining subplots from the films and the video game "Enter the Matrix" One such connection is the chapter titled "Final Flight of the Osiris" where a lost ship comes upon an army of machines drilling straight down towards the last human city of Zion (which is the premise for the final film). Keanu Reaves and Carrie-Anne Moss lend their voices.moreless

Medical drama set in Toronto at the Kingsview Family Clinic. Nadia Capone played the level headed chief doctor; Albert Schultz the unctuous callous doc Joseph Ziegler the crusader Anna Pappas the resident killed off at the beginning of the 2nd season and Jovanni Sy the good hearted doc who sometimes had trouble relating to people. Eve Harris played the administrator. Jennifer Dale was added in the 2nd season as the somewhat manipulative head of the clinic. Elizabeth Sheppard played R.N. Judy Owens Janne Mortil played the experienced receptionist michelle. This TV series premiered at the same time the U.S. unleashed two big-budget, critically acclaimed medical series, "Chicago Hope" and "E.R." Ironically, CBC's earlier hit Street Legal (which featured some of the same producers) aired the same year as "L.A. Law". Side Effects, though, faired less well in the comparison. The stories were often flaccid, having trouble stirring up the emotion needed, with largely tepid characters. The cast was O.K., with the actors growing into their parts, but none of them were (quite) strong enough, or charismatic enough, to electrify things...even an ensemble drama needs one or two interesting actors to anchor things. Still it evolved into a watchable, if unriveting, series. Created by Brenda Greenberg and Guy Mullally. Two seasons of hour long episodes on the CBC.moreless
