The 2007 Newport Music Festival Connoisseurs shares highlights of the legendary Newport Music Festival with music lovers. Filmed live at both indoor and outdoor venues, the collection treats viewers to a mixture of familiar classics and lesser known pieces, performed by both well-known professionals and new talent using a variety of instrumental settings. Features include the debut performance of 20-year-old Adam Golka, six pianists playing music by Franz Lizst in the Lisztening Post, and an all-Schumann program, just to mention a few. The video covers a broad cross-section of the Festival, with solo artists, duos and trios, chamber quartets, two pianos, and vocal artists, and includes more than just instrumental music. The Colorado Quartet, for example, shares anecdotes, and humor is provided by pianist John Bayless, who incorporates audience suggestions into his Mozart improvisations and takes requests for his segment on modern tunes played by composers; for example, Embraceable You played by Beethoven. Festival Director Mark Malkovich is also interviewed, and he offers insights into the performers, the composers, and the Festival itself. The video concludes with a "Best of the Fest" segment, featuring samples from three concerts.moreless

Learn to Play the Piano is an instructional video series offered by iVideosongs. There are two videos in the series. Targeted at beginners and intermediate players, Learn to Play the Piano features videos by pianists Chuch Leavell and Graham Nash. The first video covers the boogie-woogie style, showing viewers how to play the basic musical pattern and then providing many options for more intricate improvisation and customization. After discussing the basics, Leavell addresses intermediate players and demonstrates more complex chords that effectively harmonize the boogie-woogie. The second episode of Learn to Play the Piano focuses on blues techniques. Leavell opens the episode by teaching the basic 12-bar blues technique with a simple walking bass in the left hand and basic chords in the right. Then the host discusses the most popular blues scales and covers trills, mordents, and other musical ornaments that can be effectively used when playing the blues.moreless
