Critic's Picks is the New York Times video series where film critic A.O. Scott highlights his favorite movies. The New York Times is the American daily newspaper that was founded in 1851, and ahas since become the largest local metropolitan newspaper in the United States, as well as the third largest overall. The paper has become a national newspaper of record, providing news, opinions, and features on arts movies, theatre, travel, home & garden, fashion and more. A.O. Scott joined The New York Times as a film critic in 2000, previously working for Newsday and Slate among other publications. Scott began his career at The New York Review of Books, later serving as a book critic. After Janet Maslin retired, he took on reviewing films for the New York Times and became chief critic in 2004. On The New York Times web video series, he chooses one of his favorite movies every week, with classics like East of Eden and Top Hat, as well as newer films like The Squid and the Whale and Waking Life.
