These aspiring professional dancers trained hard for three weeks under the guidance and expertise of internationally known Ballet Masters from schools such as the Royal Ballet School, Staatsballet Berlin and Youth America Grand Prix. The school puts a strong emphasis on ballet discipline and technique and students come away with a greater appreciation for the art of dance at the end of the 3-week program.moreless

    Lydia Zimmer, a native to Nova Scotia, Canada, graduated from Walnut Hill School in ‘07 and joined the Boston Conservatory Dance Division where she received her B.F.A. ’11 Magna Cum Laude on The Conservatory Scholarship. Lydia has trained at programs in Canada such as Canada’s National Ballet School, Royal Winnipeg Ballet School, Springboard Danse Montreal, and Halifax Dance Association. She has also trained extensively at American programs such as Alvin Ailey American Dance Theatre, Jacob’s Pillow Contemporary Traditions, Hubbard Street Dance Chicago, Northwest Dance Project, Boston Ballet, North Carolina School of the Arts, and The Movement Invention Project.   • Meet Anna-Marie Holmes

    Anna-Marie Holmes is an internationally acclaimed dance luminary. Born in Canada, she trained with Heino Heiden, Lydia Karpova and Wynne Shaw; in London with Audrey de Vos and Errol Addison. In New York, she continued her ballet studies with Felia Doubrovska and trained in Leningrad with Natalia Dudinskaya, Alexander Pushkin and Alla Shelest of the Kirov Ballet. Holmes was the first North American invited to perform with the Kirov Ballet in Russia. She has also appeared with the London Festival Ballet, Royal Scottish Ballet, Berlin Staats Oper, Het Nationale Ballet of Holland, Les Grands Ballets Canadiens, Royal Winnipeg Ballet and others. Choreographers such as Brian MacDonald, Agnes de Mille, Ruth Page and Peter Darrell created works for her. She joined Boston Ballet in 1985 and was named Artistic Director of the company in 1997 as well as Dean of Faculty for the Boston Ballet Center for Dance Education. During her tenure with Boston Ballet, Holmes created new stagings of many ballets, including Giselle, Don Quixote, La Bayadère, Swan Lake and The Sleeping Beauty. Her interpretations of the Russian classics are in the repertoires of leading ballet companies worldwide. She is a recipient of the prestigious Dance Magazine Award and an Emmy Award for her staging of Le Corsaire for American Ballet Theatre's PBS Great Performances. A guest artist at Jacob's Pillow in 1968 and 1969, this is Holmes' 12th season as Ballet Program Director.moreless

    Nikolai Tsiskaridze was born in Tbilisi, Georgia, in 1973. He began his studies at the Tbilisi ballet School in 1984 and was invited in 1987 to continue his education at the Bolshoi Ballet Academy of Moscow. This graceful, refined, diligent and dedicated young student continued to perfect his professional skills throughout his school years. A unique combination of natural abilities such as flexibility, musicality, charisma and superlative lyrical expressiveness distinguished the young dancer as a rare talent, and in 1992 he graduated at the top of his class, having studied under the renowned pedagogue Professor Peter Pestov. Upon graduation, Mr. Tsiskaridze was invited to join the legendary Bolshoi Ballet, where he earned a reputation for his nobility, stage presence and perfect technique. At the Bolshoi, he was trained with such outstanding ballet professionals as Galina Ulanova, Marina Semionova, Yuriy Grigorovich, Nikolay Fadeichev and Vladimir Vasiliev. Now a principal dancer of the Bolshoi Ballet Mr. Tsiskaridze performs virtually its entire repertoire, including such ballets as the "The Nutcracker", "Swan Lake", "The Sleeping Beauty", "La Sylphide", "Giselle", "La Bayadere", "Raymonda", "Les Sylphides", "Pharaon's Daughter", "Le Spectre de la Rose", "Sheherazade", "Symphony in C", "The Legend of Love" and etc. While dancing at the Bolshoi, Mr. Tsiskaridze continued his education at the Moscow Choreographic institute, and in 1996 he was awarded a diploma with the classification of first-rank soloist, as well as teaching credentials.moreless
