Episode Summary

OutTakes is a crew of innovative youth from San Francisco who have been trained to capture the best, funniest, coolest of the Disposable Film Fest and showcase it online for an international audience of young, and not so young, people! The DFF OutTakes Youth Documentary Crew are making photographic and video documents that will include interviews, vox pops and animations. The outcomes will be screened for a youth audience in April 2012 in a real and virtual environments to further promote accessibility for international youth and to support sustained involvement in the festival in the future by young producers from around the world. OutTakes dove-tails with the expanded inter-generational programme at Disposable Film Festival, an goal identified during DFF 2011. It has been developed in partnership with TILT (Teaching Intermedia Literacy) to include a workshop on ‘Mobile Filmaking: Teen Workshop’ and a panel discussion ‘Young People Make Film: Engaging and Producing Panel’. These activities are targeted at 13-21 year olds as well as youth workers and educators. They have been developed in response to a need identified during the ‘Lights, Camera, Social Action’ Panel last year. This panel annually facilitates a discussion between filmmakers, activists and nonprofits on how disposable film is spurring social change and supporting creative, advocacy experiences especially for those experiencing marginalization such as young people in the inner city. The concept for OutTakes emerged through the new Disposable Film Festival Artist in Residency Programme. This years DFF Artist in Residence is Siobhán Clancy, an Irish artist with over a decade of experience working in collaborative contexts co-supported by The Arts Council of Ireland. Keep up to date with the artist’s progress through regular postings on www.siobhanclancy.com/art/dff_blogmoreless
