In just five seasons, the people of Mwandama Millennium Village, Malawi, have experienced remarkable transformation since the establishment of the Millennium Villages Project in 2005. Six years ago, a food crisis left the already fragile population struggling to survive. But today, Mwandama’s farmers are some of the most productive in the whole country, and huge gains have been achieved in health, education and infrastructure. What is more, these gains are being sustained by the people themselves. As they explore new ways to diversify and increase their income, villagers are increasingly able to invest back into their common future. By offering unique insights into the daily lives of the people of Mwandama, this film shows how simple, community-based development interventions can break the poverty cycle, and give rural Africa the tools to achieve the Millennium Development Goals by 2015.moreless
