Economy Bites

Show Summary

Economy Bites is a web cooking show hosted by Texas native Allie Schwartz and filmed by Daniel Schloss. Created in 2009 during the heart of the recession, it's dedicated to making cooking cheap and easy - perfect for those of us who have less money without our jobs or less time because we're working so hard to stay employed. The show aims to solve the dilemma of being too tired or too lazy to cook dinner from scratch whilst trying to avoid the temptation of buying a takeaway or microwave meal. In each seven minute episode, Allie shows how easy it is to make a delicious meal that won't cost that much. From strawberry cupcakes to beef bourginon, there is something to suit every taste. The show is filmed in a homespun style, using a kitchen which isn't big, shiny and filled with pricey appliances. It's cramped, the stove is underpowered, and Schwartz has to cram ingredients into her undersized food processor. But everything works in the end, and the viewer is presented with a tasty looking dish that makes them want to watch the next episode.
