Every Picture Tells a Story

Show Summary

Every Picture Tells a Story is a 2003 documentary series from Acorn Media Group. It is hosted by art critic Waldemar Januszczak, and examines secrets and questions about some of the world's most famous paintings. For example, why is Leonardo Da Vinci's Mona Lisa considered such an important piece of art? Or why was Manet's "Luncheon on the Grass" so controversial? Every Picture Tells a Story answers these questions, as well as many more throughout its eight episodes. Januszczak goes on location around the world, from New York to Paris, to research his project. Interviewing the experts and digging through library archives, he finds the sometimes surprising truth behind some of the world's most familiar images. Paintings by Rembrandt, Caravaggio, and Da Vinci are just a few of the many covered. Each episode runs for about 24 minutes. Anyone interested in art history or painting will find something to like about Every Picture Tells a Story.
