When Steve is watching TV, he says to himself "let's see what's on ABC." He immediately falls asleep and begins to dream, CBS' way of getting back at ABC for the episode "Life In The Fast Lane" when Steve and Laura fell to sleep watching CBS.
Stevil: Now, stay still............... THIS IS GONNA HURT LIKE THE DICKENS!!
Steve: I had a dream Stevil came back, and now, he's after my soul!
Carl: That would scare me.
Carl: Yeah, if I were five.
Laura: You got rid of him last year, didn't you?
Steve: Yep, I took him, chopped him into a million pieces and flushed them down the toilet.
Laura: Steve, there are three reasons why you shouldn't be scared of Stevil anymore. Number 1, he's not real, number 2, you flushed him, number 3, HE'S NOT REAL!
Steve: This episode is kind of scary, so you might want to watch it with someone brave.
Steve: Hey, Big Guy, want some Halloween candy? It's the last of the caramel-covered squid.
Carl: No, thank you, Steve.
Steve: I'm not going to worry about that anymore. I had eight cups of Expresso, a six-pack of Jolt Cola, and a large bowl of Froot Loops with extra sugar. You don't sleep, you don't dream.
The script for this episode is dated September 17th, 1997. As it required many special effects with the Stevil and Carlsbad dummies, it was likely not taped in front of an audience.
The German episode title is "Die Rückkehr der Teufelspuppe", meaning "Return of the Devil's Dummy".
When the dummies chopped the door with an ax, this is just like the 1977 Stephen King novel, The Shining, where Jack Torrance terrorizes his family in a hotel, including trying to break down a bathroom door with an ax to get at his wife.
