In 2006 Michael Palmer received the Wallace Stevens Award from the Academy of American Poets. In announcing the award, the academy wrote, "Palmer draws on many disparate poetic traditions to create a new voice, a voice that has opened up ways to write out of the confines of specific schools of poetry." Robert Haas adds, "Michael Palmer is the foremost experimental poet of his generation and perhaps of the last several generations."Born in New York, Palmer has lived in San Francisco for more than 30 years. He has collaborated with visual artists, including Gerhard Richter, Micaela Henich, Sandro Chia, Jess Collins, and Augusta Talbot. This lecture is part of the Chalsty Aesthetics and Philosophy Initiative made possible by a grant from the Chalsty Foundation.moreless
