Tony Woodcock became president of the New England Conservatory in Boston in June 2007. Trained as a violinist, he is an arts manager who became widely respected for revitalizing the financial performance and artistic leadership of symphony orchestras in England and the United States. Before coming to the US, he held senior positions with the City of London Sinfonia/Richard Hickox Singers, the Royal Liverpool Philharmonic and the Bournemouth Symphony Orchestra.He played a significant role in planning the 150th anniversary and commissioned Paul McCartney to write his firstever classical piece, "The Liverpool Oratorio." In 1998, he became director of the Oregon Symphony, and, in 2003, served as president of the Minnesota Orchestra. He studied music at University College in Cardiff.moreless
