Tina Brown: The Diana Chronicles
AIRED:
City Arts & Lectures presents The Diana Chronicles with author Tina Brown in conversation with Will Hearst at The Herbst Theatre in San Francisco.Tina Brown brings her attitude, style, and enthusiasm for investigative reporting to "The Diana Chronicles," a fresh study of the tumultuous inner life of the late Princess. Brown is the recipient of four George Polk Awards, five Overseas Press Club Awards, and ten National Magazine Awards, as well as the Commander of the British Empire from Queen Elizabeth. She was a personal acquaintance and fellow Englishwoman of Princess Diana."Years from now, when literary archeologists write of us," Tina Brown said in her final editorial page in The New Yorker, "they will find the passionate memos, the cryptic emails, the midnight faxes . . . communiques of a work always in progress, which circulated among an extraordinary group of men and women striving to make and remake America's finest magazine."Brown redesigned The New Yorker during her tenure as editor from 1992 until 1998. She introduced the photography of Richard Avedon, controversial covers by Art Spiegelman, and a host of new contributors and critics, while striving to retain those elements - and writers - that make the venerable magazine distinctive.Credited with resurrecting Britain's Tatler and New York's Vanity Fair, Tina Brown is known for her vitality and a generalist sensibility in publishing on both sides of the Atlantic - City Arts & Lecturesmoreless
