How The U.S. Can Ensure Energy Supply For The Future
How The U.S. Can Ensure Energy Supply For The FutureU.S. energy security is based on a delicate balance between energy production and consumption with increased supply. The U.S. energy industry is a crucial player in ensuring that the energy supply for the future is stable.John Hofmeister, President of Shell Oil Company, believes that a full array of energy sources will ensure a healthy energy supply for our future: conventional oil and gas - including access to resources presently off limits in offshore waters and on federal lands - as well as unconventional oil and gas requiring innovative technology. With this in mind, the energy industry must - and can, with advanced technology - conduct business in socially, economically, and environmentally responsible ways.John Hofmeister was named President of Houston-based Shell Oil Company in March 2005. He has held key positions in major companies such as General Electric, Nortel, and Allied Signal (now Honeywell International) for more than 30 years. He is a member of the Department of Energy's new Hydrogen and Fuel Cell Technical Advisory Committee. Mr. Hofmeister also serves on the boards of American Petroleum Institute, United States Energy Association, National Association of Manufacturers, National Urban League, Foreign Policy Association, and is a Fellow of the National Academy of Human Resources. He holds a master's degree in political science from Kansas State University.moreless
