Episode Summary

The Hess Collection
In August 2010, Gallery Crawl interviewed Museum Director Rob Ceballos about the history of Donald Hess's art collection and how it relates to Hess's other passion -- wine making. A Swiss entrepreneur, Hess has spent his life collecting artists' work in depth and getting to know them on a personal level. He also established art museums to house parts of his collection in South Africa and Argentina. Relying on his intuition and advice from Swiss curator Myrtha Steiner, Hess has amassed an important collection of works and chosen to make it available for viewing by the general public. Roughly a quarter of his collection is on view at the winery/museum in Napa.moreless
